Question I have is now that the condition was met for the 2022 #2 to become a #1, the second #2 pick, does that automatically become the 2023 pick or do the Jets still have a choice of whether it's the 2022 #2 or the 2023?

We will definitely have our own 2nd rounder this year at least. Winnipeg can decide whether they want STL's 2nd this year or defer for our 2nd next year

I was looking at the 2022 draft. If the Rangers had their pick at #24, which player would the Rangers have selected? Chris Morehouse ran the 2020 and 2021 drafts( had major input at the very least). The Rangers went primarily CHL in the first two rounds with Schneider, Cuylle and Othmann. This draft has a weak CHL draft class especially where the Rangers were going to pick in the first round. Would the Rangers have selected a player from the US National Development Program? European player? The competitive player who can play wasn't going to be there. John Lilley will run the draft with Morehouse. The Maple Leafs selected Matthew Knies at #57 last year when Lilley was with the Leafs.

Kreider Zib Laf
Panarin Copp Motte/Blais
Othmann Chytil Kakko
Motte/Blais Goodrow Reaves
Hunt

Miller Trouba
Robertson Schneider

Igor
Halak
Also with this we have our 1st and a bunch of assets next year for more deadline moves and/or getting players on retention for multi-year runs

So many assets in the cupboard right now

no jones?
I also have so many issues about the forward lines.
Blais/Motte and splitting the kids... Ugh.

You know, you guys ready got what you wanted. How often can you say that as a Rangers fan?

I don't believe Wilson was the impetus for change. Tom Wilson is a clown ass and he's watching us play.

What I heard through the grapevine is that Dolan was set off by having a chance to make the playoffs coming into a back to back against the Islanders and absolutely laying eggs in those games.

I have no reason not to trust that and no reason to believe that isn't the most plausible explanation.

From there, some folks said "they're too sawft yada yada" and others, like myself, said that we needed another element but the answer wasn't necessarily taking more penalties or having less skill.

Beyond the semantics of it, I don't think the positions of the team or the different sects of fans were dissimilar. We all knew that we couldn't come out that flat in games that important.

Fast forward about a calendar year and this team is a f***ing rash. They come back in games. They come back in series. When the shit starts, it's always us laughing and the other team whining. Nothing seems to bother this team. MSG feels like Hell to come into again which it never did in the heyday of the Lundqvist teams. The people are louder for this team.

We've adopted that Trotz Islanders element of just winning a series somehow but we have more raw ability than they ever did and we're still getting better.

For once, the Rangers front office actually created the thing that they wanted to see.

Rangers now need to develop a home grown reeves type talent. He is on his last legs.. think of a greenway on our team!! Hmm

CK MZ Oth/Krat
Pan Chytil Laf
Blais Kupari Kakko
Motte Goodrow Hunt
Reavo

Lind Fox
Miller Trouba
Vet/Jones Schneider

Igor / Rittich

Oh no... We lost the 32nd pick. We'll be fine.

We have more than enough assets to get whatever we need.... but I don't like the idea of giving up our 1sts every TDL.

Keep the cupboard full and stocked for when we get Cap Crunched.

Yup. 2023 looks to be an above average year so keep the pick if possible.

So what do we do with Jones, Lunkist and Halek..Roberts look like a keeper too..then we have a 1/2 dozen of young forwards that we need to make decisions on..otherwise we block their path to the show. Even if we signed half the vets we want too..

Probably forgot a couple of players..

What are our picks that we have this offeason? A 2nd and a 5th?
We have our 2nd, 4th (Winnipeg's), 5th, and 6th.

The Jets could take the Blues 2nd this year (from the Buchnevich trade) or our 2nd next year.

Gotta assume Drury is going to look to move Hajek for another out-of-favor or log-jammed prospect, i.e. Gauthier for Keane.

I would like to see Jones get a shot as the 3LD with Schneider, with a vet like Braun as the 7th D. This would entail moving Nemeth.

No need to rush Robertson. I'd like to see Nils get another year in Hartford before we make a decision on him.

I think nils is absolutely blocked and we'd move him for a forward prospect or a pick.
Maybe nils ends up playing the left side instead of jones though.

As far as I know, Nils has never played the left side, though he did say back in 2020 that he was open to the possibility. Granted, that came with the caveat that he was more comfortable on the right side (in his own words).

But if the prices are low, I'd wait to see if he can build more value throughout the upcoming season. He's still very young for a defenseman and had a decent season.

The other option would be to find a team in need of a cost-controlled RD and get, ideally, a young center in return. Someone mentioned Dallas earlier, as they're almost-assuredly losing Klingberg. Maybe Bordeleau from the Sharks? But he has been good in his limited showing.

I'm sure someone else shared it, but Drury at his availability yesterday said he went down to the locker room after the win Monday and was going around the room congratulating the guys and Copper looked at his and said "sorry about your 1st" (bc of the trade conditions). That is hilarious

Drury, (probably), to Copp “it’s okay. This draft sucks anyway”

This kid line has been so good, I really wonder if you don't just elevate that whole line next year. Dont even bother breaking them up. Get them some real ice time. Stack that top line with Kreider, Zib and Panarin. Keep the term manageable on Copp & Vatrano. 3rd line some combination of those 2, Blais, Goodrow or Kravstov. 4th line some combination of Goodrow, Motte, Blais & Reaves. Hunt as the extra, Brodz as the callup

Copp, Vatrano, Motte and Trouba all go way back to their USHL days so it'd nice to keep that group together.

Nemeth should be plenty movable. You see the type of big defensemen Ron Francis is going for in Seattle. That group is really thin with plenty of cap space. Aside from Strome we should be able to keep everyone, the math works.
