I can see us signing two of the three. If so, I hope it's Copp and Vatrano.
If Copp develops chemistry with Panarin I could see the Rangers retaining Copp and letting Strome walk as a UFA. Ideally you’d sign Strome to be 2C and Copp to be 3C but that would involve moving Nemeth and Chytil in the off-season along with letting Georgiev walk. It would be tight but doable for next season if Strome takes 6, Copp takes 5, Vatrano takes 3, Motte takes 2 and they do a bridge deal for Kakko. But next off-season you have to deal with Lafreniere and Miller.

On the 32 Thoughts Podcast Elliotte Friedman said he spoke with an NHL coach who said Phil Kessel wasn’t traded before the deadline because the team acquiring him didn’t wanna deal with his Iron Man streak. They said the acquiring team was gonna be fairly deep at forward and would probably have to scratch Kessel here and there which would’ve ended his streak. I wonder if he is referring to the Rangers after they acquired Copp and Motte along with Kakko and Rooney returning shortly thereafter. Makes a lot of sense especially since the Rangers had the cap space and could have acquired Kessel easily for a draft pick.
Look at our right wing. Do you think Phil Kessel would be sat for any of them?

if we're fully healthy next year with best case scenario
its kakko,copp, blais, motte

Yeah i dont see kessel running an ironman with that rw group.

Dubas was mad at the Hawks GM Kyle Davidson for the trade discussion being leaked to the media. Chicago asked for Knies and Toronto is afraid of Knies thinking the Leafs tried to trade him. They are trying to sign the player.

Hagel and Fleury to Toronto for Knies, Mrazek(dump the contract on Chicago) and two first round picks. Something like that. Hagel has two goals in eight games for TB.

I heard Frank Seravalli says teams were leery of Hagel. He brought up Chicago trading Ryan Hartman to Nashville for a 1st round pick in 2018. Hartman had 19 goals for Chicago in 16-17. He had 9 goals in 17-18 before Chicago traded him to Nashville. Hartman flopped in Nashville and they traded him one year later for Wayne Simmonds.
Hartman looks pretty damn good right now in Minnesota. I do expect Hagel to have a similar career just not as a faux center

How do those numbers work?

They don't work.

It’s also based on us moving Chytil which makes no sense based on his play right now.
He’s controlled next year, and more importantly he appears to be ascending, and has the one thing we really lack which is gamebreaking speed.

Kreider 6.5
Zibanejad 8.5
Vatrano 3
Panarin 11.6
Strome 6
Kakko 2.5
Lafreniere .925
Copp 5
Goodrow 3.6
Motte 2
Hunt .76
Reaves 1.75
Fox 9.5
Lindgren 3
Miller .925
Trouba 8
Jones .925
Schneider .925

Shesterkin 5.66
Kinkaid .825

All of that puts the team right at just under 82 million. Just gotta figure out the dead cap space which is $3.4 million.

The $3.4M is part of the cap for next season. The Rangers will need more than $500,000 to operate the team.

You can't play around with dead cap. It's not something that can roll over, or be traded. The Rangers have a total cap of 79.1m next season to work with.

I think once we traded for Vatrano the Kessell ship sailed.

What do you see him getting? Based on his play, 2.5M is overpaying him for a 2 year bridge, but that's a fair offer given his draft slot.

Waiting 2 years for a long term deal is probably beneficial for both him & the team.
Chytil got similar numbers. I think 3/3 would be more in line and thats when the cap goes up.

I assume he's looking at Kotkaniemi and thinking "why not me?" If another high draft pick, who also hasn't yet put the points on the board can get a $6m offer sheet followed by an 8x$4.8m contract, why is KK settling at $2.5x2?

Offer sheeting a NYR player is a dangerous game long term. I'd love to see it simply for the drama.

Regardless, I understand your point but his production has not justified that ask. Doesn't mean I haven't been wrong before.

On a side note, the practice of paying guys because of their former draft positions is assinine . Not sure who the first dumb GM was who thought that was a good idea.

2.5 for 3 years is fair

I agree about the offersheet and the draft position, but even without it I can see him wanting a fair bit more than $2,5, even if it's not yet deserved.
NHL contracts are a mess and I just get the feeling that KK's is going to be one that bites us
