Even if its not Strome, his replacement is going to come with some salary. The Rangers are going to squeeze the RFAs as much as they can . Chytil has potential (how much is up for debate) but the fact of the matter is hes on his 3rd coach and hasnt done much of anything in his 5 years in the organization. Hes also not on an ELC and the team is in a cap crunch. No one is saying "punt him" but if hes a cap casualty to fit players who are actually good (Strome/Kakko) so be it.
And Kane. All for the low, low price of Gauthier, Tinordi, Hajek. The trade is 3 for 3.Hagel and Dach are on the menu boys
I will say that Gartner would not have been where Anderson was to save a goal in double OT against the Devils. No Cup
They wont have issues keeping Strome if he comes in at 5.5-6 AAV. Kakko will be lucky to get the Chytil bridge and the Blais injury will help keep his next contract in check. Barron replaces Rooney, and Chytil and/or Nemeth could be moved for more wiggle room.
That's an awful lot of hindsight with perfect information. For your sake I hope you don't start to trade individual stocks. It's definitely worked out for the best this year, but if you were getting what you had gotten say the last 4 years of his career, and instead could have had a first that could have been packaged to move up for Lundell, plus Jason Robertson, who actually has more points than Kreider in 2021-22, it's a no brainer.
And even with Kreider leading the league in goals this season, I'd prefer the 22 year old with more total points plus a first.
2 weeks off so I’m not shocked if they are working on an extension 4x 5.25 is ideal …. He may get an extra year for taking less though
lol...okay.. I think most Rangers fans were shocked they traded Tony away, but wheel n deal Neil was willing to give up anyone Mike didn't like, to go for it and win that one year.Amonte would have scored 2 goals on that play.
I mean, sure? But at some point the owner with the 30,000 foot view and a desire for playoff revenue goes "We have the best goalie and defenseman in the league and that's our 7th best prospect."We’re very spoiled on the blue line in terms of good young kids, but imo Robertson is held in very high regard by this org and many others who would love to add him.
Hopefully we’ll be seeing it when he trades us DachI love that image. I was hoping to see it in the thread on the main boards.
To be fair, it wasn't exactly hard to predict a lot of success with Robertson. Kid was a stud for a while now. That's an awful lot of hindsight with perfect information. For your sake I hope you don't start to trade individual stocks.

Causality and stuff, but he's not the *same* player in New York as he was in Dallas even though in fantasyland he is. He's performing better than he did in the AHL, I don't think anyone would have quite predicted THAT.To be fair, it wasn't exactly hard to predict a lot of success with Robertson. Things have been very telegraphed since the firing as far as I see. Time will tell.
It's true that he wouldn't be the same player he is in Dallas if he was in NY because the Rangers ruin every highly talented prospect they touch.Causality and stuff, but he's not the *same* player in New York as he was in Dallas even though in fantasyland he is. We got Kakko and Laf, tried, and failed. It's true that he wouldn't be the same player he is in Dallas if he was in NY because the Rangers ruin every highly talented prospect they touch.
unless you were Glen Sather, if you said all these things to Dolan he'd look at you, blink twice, and repeat "we can afford to trade our 7th best prospect". just the way it is with people like him.yea but they’re not going to completely abandon the future/cap for a rental.
It’s very possible Robertson makes 1 of Miller/lindgren expendable when they are both due for their raises.
I highly doubt they would have dealt Schneider even if he was still playing in Hartford at this point.....
I think priority for Drury would be moving kravy( asset that isn’t helping us now, or in the future most likely), 1st( it’s a late rd pick, 2-3 years from making a likely impact.
Chytil( signed 1 more year, hasn’t taken the steps fwd in consistency many would have liked).....
we all know Dolan likes his big boys, and Robertson is the only guy in our system that can add that on the left with Miller.
Looking forward to Othmann's number being retired by whatever team we trade him to in a few years in part of a losing deal Drury thinks will help us win a CupWe got Kakko and Laf, tried, and failed.
The lesson is, never try.
Why won't ppl like this? I think u make a lot of sense in this post. Good points! My thoughts, that won’t be liked by many but that have never stopped me before:
1. If we do not resign Ryan Strome, what are the odds that we could have him for free with retention from whatever teams that overpays for him in the coming 12-24 months?
2. I just don’t see how we can afford Strome.
And any talk about replacing him with a high payed big name center is downright nuts. You need depth. You need flexibility on the roster, it’s impossible to plan ahead with any certainty in this league. Just look through our yearly rosters and the outcome of each season, so much crap happens, players surprise, disappoints. Etc etc etc.
3. If you retain Strome now, you effectively remove any and all flexibility for the foreseeable future. There is no additions being made. There is no way even remotely that we could afford to keep someone that over performs/outperforms expectations. This is why Chi lost Panarin to start with. There is no way there won’t be costly causalities.
4. Look at Carolina, people marvel about Toronto but I think Carolina is a much better example to build a team after. They are doing it the right way even if it hasn’t delivered them a cup yet.
They have a Norris candidate caliber D in his prime in Dougie Hamilton. But if they retain him, they lose all flexibility going forward. So they let him walk and — according to basically everyone there — upgrades him with a better player at 1m per.
They have many good young players coming up. They will lose players, but replace them. They will be competitive for a really long time.
Why? Because when things go wrong for them, they will of course, happens to everyone, they have flexibility. They can adjust.
Would Carolina bet the future of the organization on one vet? No, they have proven that. Why should we do it on Strome? You can sign vets for long contracts and pay them a lot. But our quota in this cathegory is super crowded — already — with Kreider, Ziba, Panarin, Trouba and co. Fox and Shesty are getting paid.
5. So we are counting on being able to trade Trouba and Kreider when their NMCs are up in 2 and 3 years time.
I remember exactly what I said when we signed Shatty. ‘OK I don’t like this signing, I don’t believe this player will live up to the hype — but this is one contract I just cannot imagine being untradable, and that makes it acceptable since we could at least always trade him’. How easy is it to move a vet in this league?
I would do anything but to bank on that we can trade Trouba and Kreider in 24’ and 25’. I wouldn’t rule it out, but I don’t think you can count on it. 25%? 50%?
6. The cap is going to be flat for a long time. There is plenty of risks out there. Canadian teams are playing in empty arenas due to outside risks. It’s going to take a long time for the players to pay their debt to the owners. Plan ahead cautiously.
That's the spirit.Looking forward to Othmann's number being retired by whatever team we trade him to in a few years in part of a losing deal Drury thinks will help us win a Cup
