Try all you want. Just don’t make stupid trades chasing fantasies.

Wow. That's quite an interpretation of "Don't waste assets on a long shot for one year now, and instead build toward a much better chance of winning in two to three years and for a number of years after." Hahahaha.

Can’t really count on short sighted, impatient people to also be reasonable.

Are you arguing that we shouldn't care if they dislike each other, or that they do in fact like each other? It's pretty obvious they don't like each other

I’m saying it doesn’t matter if they like each other or not.

weird that two guys who dislike each other voluntarily chose to attend and sit next to each other at a Knicks game in November.

This conversation in regards to Dubois is EXACTLY the reason why I am super hesitant to be giving away prime assets for rentals or players who won't be here very long. Guys like Dubois become available for various reasons, some of which are known, some are not. By stockpiling and continuing to play a smart and patient acquisition gameplan they can make sure they are ready to pounce once something opens up.

So you’re saying we shouldn’t just spend all our prime assets on Phil Kessell then??

It being a problem is manufactured by the fans. The fact that people search out for him not celebrating with Igor after wins and such and look for it. Certainly could be true that other players don’t like him. But it doesn’t really matter and have an effect on the team. There are 23+ guys on a team plus staff. You’re never going to have everyone like everyone. It’s inevitable someone will be unhappy or disliked or something. But if you can’t put that stuff to the side then you’re not a very good professional athlete in the first place

he did punch ADA in the face.. a Team mate....
Say what you will, but ADA has friends and guys that liked him in the room as well...
That fight was certainly curtains on his ranger career.
I’d wager that didn’t sit well with more then a few guys.
Lemieux was dealt not too long after while not playing particularly engaged hockey for us .

things like that certainly have ripple effects.
But you’re right, every locker room has their clicks/group of guys. Some closer to each other, and others not so much

This Georgiev thing is absolutely manufactured by the fanbase. So he’s a young guy upset he’s not a starter. Who wouldn’t be? They all want to start. It hasn’t affected the team. He’s been on the team for five years now. If he was that much of a problem he wouldn’t have lasted here that long.
They probably have been trying to get rid of him. But he has been too inconsistent. Doesn’t change that he is a problem and they are trying to navigate it as best as possible. And you can say the problem is being manufactured by the fan base, but the optics aren’t great and he is the one causing those bad optics.

They're teammates, a goalie tandem at that; they should like each other lol. I think it definitely matters that players get along. Players go to all sorts of functions together, I also don't know if the issue was apparent all the way back in November. I don't remember when the weird post game interactions started but I think it was after November

It kinda still is.

But I’m with you for trading seconds and mid level prospects.

18-5 against the Eastern Conference this year, including 6-3 against Toronto/Florida/Tampa Bay. 0-2 against Caps/Canes, but I'll reserve judgement until we see a few more games against them in 2nd half.

There shouldn't be any doubts about this teams standing in the league.

There’s plenty of reason to doubt. One win against the Panthers doesn’t erase the last two months.

Even looking at it optimistically they price is too high to pay to keep pace with clearly better teams in Carolina and Tampa. It’s a delusion. And will end up a waste.

It's not even close a comparison to this year. Not even 2014 was a good comparison to 94.

Any trades we make should be for more than just this year's playoffs.

I agree with this. There are plenty of useful rentals out there, but if they get a chance to add a guy with 2-3 years left they should overpay to have the other team retain and squeeze everyone under the cap for a few years.

Hockey Stat Miner (great follow on twitter) pointed out that this has been common among contenders historically. Justin Williams for the Canes in 06, Mark Recchi for the Bruins in 08 and McD for Tampa in 2018 were specific examples of guys who were deadline adds the year before their teams won the Cup.

What if Carolina & Tampa are eliminated before we face them? Winning a Stanley Cup even if you are going all-in is extremely hard and requires luck, but that doesn't mean you don't try.

Again you dont need to sell the farm, but the Rangers know what players do and dont have long term futures here and in the first year of a Cup window, which this is, you approach the deadline accordingly

How come the only definition of trying seems to involve pawning off valuable long term commodities for rentals? Are we not taking the ice unless we do that? Cause I’d call making the playoffs as a 30-13-4 team trying no matter what else we do. We aren’t forfeiting.

The issue is what gives you the best chances to win a Cup at some point and the answer should clearly be to keep stacking the future.

Gotta ask this question. How do so many of you supposedly "know" so much about other teams players? Where do you find the time to watch them with any regularity? Or is it just bullshit? As a long-time lurker, I've leaned bullshit.

Must have a lot of aspiring scouts in here. What brought me to this website was my fandom for the Rangers, not other teams.

Again, if Georgiev was as much of a locker room cancer as people seem to believe, they would have gotten rid of him by now.

If you want an example of this see DeAngelo

Yes, you also have to factor in Arizona's average attendance dropping from 5,025 to 5,000.
Even better — the latest chatter from Arizona State is that the maximum expected NHL capacity, after all necessary additions and alterations is closer to 3,500. Oh, and ASU has most Friday and Saturday dates locked down.

I'll never understand Bettman's infatuation with Arizona. He should help Palestinians while he's at it.

In 2019-2020, the team was 4-0 against Carolina. Dominated them. Out-scored them 17-9 in those four games. Had people running around claiming that the Canes were trying to change the rules of the play-in because they were "scared" of facing the Rangers. We got curb-stomped and swept in that play-in.

The Canes won a couple rounds, and have been in the playoffs for three years running, and only NOW are they seen as a true contender.

Experience matters. The Rangers don't have it, and need to get it in the next couple post-seasons. Going all in NOW is just shooting their shot two or three years before they have any real chance at the target. As fans, we have dealt with the most painful part of the rebuild process (losing beloved vets, acquiring young talent, and building it back into a playoff team). It would be pointless to do all of that only to f*** it up by trying to skip one final step between this team and contender status (ie: building up post-season experience). Make some smart additions? Yes. Make additions that will still be here 3 years from now? Yes. Self-rent Strome, even though he's almost certainly not in the financial picture next year? Yes. Emptying the cupboard or using our best trade chips for players who will only help for one or two years? Stupid.
