If you are not a Georgiev believer, you are simply not paying attention. This guy has every trait of overachiever, different breed. I hope Shestyorkin is a large fraction of the hype, but my money is on Georgiev as the goaltender of the New York Rangers.

I’m still hesitant on Georgiev, this is two years in a row he’s started pretty terrible and was great for the last month of the season or so

Panarins a great player....he’s not an 11 mil a year player. And he’s not the right player for where this franchise is.
13% cap hit is exactly what he's worth.

$16M for 2/3rds of your top line, is not bad.

We're not going to have cap issues.

Personally I think we should sign him.

I want to take the spirit of loser points up a notch.

Instead of making a late push only to lose in OT, with a little hard work we can begin our legacy of being a team that makes a late push only to miss the playoffs in the final two games of the season.

I'm going to get you a Panarin jersey..

You're going to wish you had those dollars available when someone who is actually worth it shakes loose.
Who exactly would that be? Better than Panarin?

Even then, we'll still have more than enough money in 2-3 years. All the fat-cats come off the books and the cap will be rising dramatically. Talkin' bout closing in on $100M cap ( assuming things dont change drastically in the CBA )

Guys become pissed with their teams and request trades all the time or GMs trade great players for stupid reasons.

I know, assets vs just money but I'll pay the assets to get the right player at the right time, not to mention you'll probably be getting that player while hes in the middle of his prime years, not headed towards or at the end of them.

11 mill is still going to be pretty significant if the cap goes up to 100m. We're going to have a bunch of guys to sign between now and when the other players come off the cap. It's one thing if he were coming in here to be a third wheel behind a pair of young studs we already have, but all he does is get in the way of that happening.

He may be worth around 11m now, but will he be worth that 2 years from now? 4?

Maybe to the former, probably not to the latter.

In two years we're going to have almost no money tied up in goaltending or defense, almost all of our goalies and defenders will be on modest contracts or entry level deals, which makes signing Panarin a no-brainer.We'll still have plenty of cap space to make other moves.

Can't wait til we sign Panarin. I'll actually be upset if it doesn't get done..

I look forward to your misery.

7 year 70+ million contract with a NMC for a rebuilding team that’s years away from (hopefully) being a legit contender?

Sounds like a shortsighted plan. Sounds like a cry for an accelerated rebuild.

If we were competing for a cup and saw him as the missing piece to putting us over the top? Then hell yes I’d be interested.

But given the current state of the team...?

Hell to the No.

Unless Calgary is snoozing it before the POs they will beat EDM.

That means that we will finish 5th if we lose, 6th if we get a loser point and 7th if we win against Pittsburgh. Should EDM get a point against Calgary we cannot finish lower than 6th.

We will most likely draft a position lower than we finish, i.e. 6th, 7th or 8th. We will get a good kid no matter what, but the upside and potential will probably be a lot higher at 6th than 8th...

How long is this list of players?
  • > Panarin
  • Available
  • Wants to sign here

I would not hold my breath on the bolded part, before the ink is dry. Wouldn't be the first time we are supposed to be someone's only destination before they sign somewhere else.

But who knows.

Panarin makes no sense for a team in the early stages of long and deliberate rebuild, which is what the Rangers are attempting to do. This really is about instant gratification for some people. Listening to Dan Rosen between periods yesterday, even the hiring of a new president is going to filtered through the concept of the rebuild. The Rangers are looking for someone who is not going to interrupt the existing structure. They’re not looking for someone who is going to bring in ‘his people’ and overhaul the current setup. They want someone who can run interference for the GM, and keep ownership at bay. Sounded like JD was the ideal candidate.
