I feel like the Rangers already signed Fox, I've seen him play a for a while, and I am now already feeling like he was over-hyped.

28th + Staal (w/retention) for Fox?
They aren't going to be near the cap. I would pay Staal to sell freaking hotdogs before I give up even a late first to get rid of him, and if Fox isn't going to sign, why bid against ourselves?

Fox has been hyped for years, now I watched one tape of molasses ass powerplay from college. Like I like Pionk more. He's got a season of NHL hockey under his belt.
Kid has been dealt by CGY, probably wasn't gonna sign there neither. Now he doesn't want CAR. I don't like kids like that. Like he for real thinks, we'll just give him the spot as if he was Shattenkirk, or as if he's gonna take everything over, once he gets here. Specially since his weak-spot is the main attribute you need to be successful in the NHL today: speed. He lacks that.

There is just no freaking way, if he already wants to sign here, that we will simply gift an asset to CAR. Just don't do it!

Kid gets to free agency, signs here, done. This is the only way with Fox ...

honest question did you feel the same way when hayes refused to sign? id give up a late 2nd or 3rd for this kid, he dominated at times in the ncaa

Winning the lottery does not accelerate the rebuild, it solidifies it. Adding Hughes/Kakko-type player was always a crucial step in the rebuild, we just did not know if that would happen in year 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. It happens in year 2, which is great. But it doesn't change anything.

And yes, I consider getting the 2nd overall pick "winning the lottery". I've seen people claim we did not win the lottery because it's only 2nd overall, but if you win 25 million in the Powerball, while someone else wins 75 million, you still won the lottery

And that’s thing, when he’s healthy, he’s a damn good player.

I might question his durability. Or his ability to permanently occupy that number one spot on a team like the Rangers. Or even the cost of acquiring and signing him.

But I fully acknowledge the talent is there.

I don't know how many times this has to be said.

None of his injuries are related to eachother. They are just not, in any way, shape, or form compounded or chronic injuries.

Zib just played his first full season because of two freak injuries over the last 2 years. Is he injury prone, too? because that's the same argument you are making against Trouba, and it doesn't hold water in this context.

No, because for starters there was no one year waiting period. He's one year away from getting to free agency and is already linked severely to us. Not the case with Hayes back in the day, iirc. Happened in a short period of time back then. Also Hayes was just what we needed back then, CHI was stacked on C and we were not.

Fox being the next average-sized, "two-way", right-handed defenseman in our pool, is not what we need going forward. Specially not if we have to give up an asset. The pool is fine as is without him. It's better with him, but only if we don't give up any assets.

But probably the most accurate comparison would be Zibanejad, whose own questions about durability had him in his fair share of proposals right up until the new year, when he just kept going

Please.... the only person who consistently ran this narrative was @RangerBoy because apparently Draft picks are now worth more than US Dollars and Current team talent is running the same price as failing pharma stock... You know VERY well that most people wanted this guys around because he's locked up on a good deal

At center, Chicago had Toews and then...

the chances or a 2nd or a 3rd round pick becoming adam fox are extremely low....regardless if you dont see him as a great player, he averaged more points per game than any player in college hockey last year.....not all defensemen, ALL SKATERS, i mean thats good come on the 58th overall pick for him is a no brainer

Or it could be that both of those teams have their top 4 D spots filled for the foreseeable future and he wants a faster path to the NHL?

I get that they aren't related. But wear and tear on the body isn't limited to just chronic injuries. The fact that it's not chronic really doesn't mean a thing to me.

As for Zib, here's a few details you left out:
  • Since becoming a full time player Zibanejad has one season where he played less than 70 games. One.
  • Trouba has four seasons where he didn't eclipse 65 games. Four.
  • Since becoming an NHL regular during the 2013-14 season, Zibanejad has played has missed approximately 39 games due to injury, Trouba has missed more than double that amount - about 83. Furthermore, of the 39 games Z has missed due to injury, literally 2/3 of them came in one season. Trouba has missed significant time in multiple and consecutive years.
So, no, there is a weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit of mathematical difference there.

Exciting time to be a fan. Watching this 1st round, I want us to be a hard team to play against.

That feeling on June 14, 1994 I want that again.

Hmmm, that's interesting.

Because I just happened to do a search using the keywords "Zibanejad+trade" and the remnants of those conversations were still being echoed in January. January.

And that was after he was already climbing to first line center status. So I'm going to disagree with you on those conversations happening.

The downside is that the search feature only allowed me to go back to January, because otherwise we'd see quite a bit more popping up. But yeah, not quite as isolated as you might recall.

Pionk can't hold his Jock...

I say this being someone who thinks Fox tops out as a #4.
