Hes an rfa after this season so that could have played into it.
It probably did, but he’s also not very good, so this seems like a bad trade for Nashville. This dman market makes absolutely no sense with how these trades have gone down. I’m glad we’re staying out of it for the most part

Even if thats true, that doesn't mean either player was on the table.

Stop talking out of your ass. Especially at this time of the year.
I do not believe Laf or Kakko was ever on the table, but not only do I believe we were really in on Eichel, I believe we thought we had a deal and then the owner stepped in and squashed it.

We would have to pay a lot more that two 2nd's but I would as well.
I'm 100% ok with that. The value is that he'd be here long term and fill a massive need. His experience doesn't hurt and he's also the better player. He's perfect for Panarin

Could it really be much more than Nils + 1st? what's the 3rd piece?

Was at the game tonight. I would not make any major trades for rentals to help this team. They have put together a good run and will make the playoffs, might even win a round, but they aren't going to win the cup. If Vegas goes crazy and wants to trade either Karlsson or Stephenson now, look into that. Spare part RFAs for another RFA or picks, ok. Maybe Roslovic or Texier, sure. Chychrun? Maybe. No rentals though. We just don't a have it yet.

Also, avoid Rakell like the plague.

I was also at the game and echo your general sentiment.

So many are petrified of losing a trade that they honestly don’t believe Copp is worth a pair of seconds? The NYR have tons of picks. He’s a UFA, sure, but these Swiss Army knife guys are MUST HAVES in seven game sets. 53% on draws? Can play anywhere and with anybody? Gourde-type, high energy players with insane work ethics? Penalty kill, PP, etc. I’d do it.

he is a much better player and fit. Plus doesn't have a history of too many concussions.
I just don't think the standard trade bait of Nils, Chytil and a first gets it done (especially with retention)

Francis is really working a mess in Seattle. The team is bad, he built it, they have beniers and some other young guys coming in but he's tearing it all down right now for futures and probably thinking he can backfill the team with his cap space this summer, but what kind of environment is he leaving for a beniers and other kids to deal with. That org is such a mess already. Francis has done a terrible job so far

I mean, after tonight's game, can you blame fans who have no confidence that a rental will be worth it if we are not winning the cup against PIT/CAR/FLA/COL?

The path is somewhere in between but those pair of 2nd rounders would be huge in the draft. Copp isn't turning this 11 sog team into a cup winner.

I mean unless the Avs or Bruins are dipping into the 2024 or 2025 drafts to offer up a the additional 2nd rounder, that offer for Copp is probably from us.
