I think the decision is more elementary than that on Kreider. Before we get to money, I need to know if he is ever going to be more than an inconsistent winger with elite athletic ability. I'm concerned he has never put it all together and he fell off again. He's 28, I can't tell myself any more that he is a leader, a night in, night out performer. He's not a 30 goal scorer, not a 60 pt wing. A lot of people bought into him turning a corner when his first half was great. I wanted to wait to get the full picture before I was convinced.
Whatever you think of him, he is a legit top line player. Full stop. Rank him where you will, but that is who he is. He is also a leader on this team, one who has been here his entire career. That matters in the locker room.

I am not saying he is untranslatable. No one is. But if he is going to be moved, it needs to be because he has priced himself out of the market and Gorton can get a return commensurate with his level.

Maybe, our medical staff was able to turn Stralman's career around though.

It isn't them, it's the organizational philosophy. Fast shouldn't be playing either but we're all about that "pride" and "not punting away seasons!"

Karma doesn't care, Montreal basically packed it up after the deadline last year, they still picked 3rd.

I am not saying that all decisions has been perfect, but we must also remember that a big part of a NHLers game is to be able to keep playing AND producing despite being hurt. The veterans must show the kids how it’s done.

I don't disagree with the first paragraph. I don't want to take anything away fromhim, but I don't see more than what he has been his whole career. A lower level, 1st line wing. No shame in that. The leadership thing... eh none of us are in a position to know or use it as a basis for determining value.

The second part, well I'm still not so hung up on his contract. I don't think it will be bad or out of line for what he is worth, but that isn't the end all be all on the decision.

I think this rebuild will be longer and uglier than we all anticipated. The next defense core is barely in the system. The goaltending is a question mark, but at least there are candidates. The future forward core is mostly hopefuls outside of a few problems.

I don't think we turn it around during Kreider's productive years. I'm all for finding a Zibanejed-Brassard trade and looking forward. I'm not a fan of using Kreider to move up or acquire an extra 1st. Get a defenseman from Carolina or make a deal around Nylander and Horton.

Look at where he ranks in goals and points among wings. And that is with a ridiculous cold streak factored in.

And leadership is a value. You just cannot easily quantify it.

They can certainly start to be come competitive again in his productive years. And later on in his career he can still be a net front presence and control play along the board. And again, what he and Zbad do , or at least some of what they do, is not force Quinn in playing young kids in roles they are not accustomed to.

Didn't Gaborik credit the Rangers medical staff to helping him finally get past some of his lingering issues? Granted, that was 10 years ago but I don't think our staff is quite that bad.
quiet you, we're bashing anonymous team officials and staff without fear of consequences over here

What ever is bugging him now wasn't bad enough for him to take maintenance days or whatever during practice time. OTOH, someone like Fast should probably sit out for the remainder of the season. I don't know whats up with him, but it seems like he's been hurt since the beginning of the year.
Ribs afaik

I think it’s his wrist/thumb, they showed him on the bench with his glove off the other night and his hand was a giant ball of tape

I'd be okay with a Kreider trade if the return is a top10 pick or a blue chip prospect. Similar value to Stone

I don't think that is remotely possible as a return. I would say a middle 1st rounder (say 15-20) and a good prospect. Maybe they get a 3rd rounder that turns into another 1st if he re-signs if the other team really likes him.

I could see a team like Buffalo being interested. They have 2 1st rounder this year and they are clearly trying to build a contender there

I agree. The Bolts haven't moved Foote, despite him coming up in every big proposal involving them for the better part of a year. I don't see him going in a salary dump deal. Raddysh's value isn't quite as hot as it was in 2017, but I also don't see him being included.

I think an offer to the Rangers to take Callahan, if there is one, is more likely to be the restrictions coming off the first in 2019, and another pick added as a sweetener --- maybe a second in 2020. I don't see Tampa trading an almost NHL-ready prospect to get rid of Callahan.
Maybe any potential deals with TB will hinge on their playoff performance or lack thereof . Plus Yzerman likely was against moving some guys...there new GM may feel differently and want to make his own mark . Worth investigating as I am sure Gorton will do and or likely has already done .

So did Stralman, he had an issue that was derailing his career and possibly his life. Columbus, Toronto and New Jersey medical staffs all failed to diagnose the problem.

The Rangers staff figured it out and his career took off from there.

Stint with Rangers gave Lightning's Stralman a career

I re-sign Kreider for 6.5x6 before I trade him for a mid first rounder.

On Kreider, I always had high hopes for him the way he is able to tilt the ice. I like that’s he’s gotten really good in front of the net, but besides that I still don’t see him using his size every game. I always said I’d be happy with 25 goals from him as long as he’s playing the body and making a difference w/o the puck but to me he’s still invisible too much.

If the return is right I won’t lose any sleep over him being dealt. Not sure if he’d bring back more at this years draft or next years deadline.
