Ok, can somebody please tell me why we want to dump some of our assets for defenseman, Jakob Chychrun? We have a pretty decent D core, with some really good D prospects. It seems that all this trade talk is about unloading Chytil, Kravtsov and some D prospects to acquire yet another defenseman.....when in reality, we have yet to figure out our 3c position.......as well as out weakness on RW......

Plus Chychrun is making $4.6m a year........hows that gonna work?

Am i wrong here?

On the Hockey News podcast the other day one of their reporters claimed his Florida team insiders say that the Panthers’ are in on Chychrun in a big way.
Chychrun is a Florida kid who played for the Junior Panthers.
We will see.
If we lose out to them, Drury might be able to then make Phoenix an offer for Lundell if he believes he would be a good fit.
Truth

Chychrun’s family lives in South Florida

The mere fact that high flying teams like the Panthers and Rangers are chasing Chychrun should tell you something.

Yes, looking back, I clearly did not have a grasp on what you were saying. I thought you were saying they wouldn't trade Smith. What you said is they wouldn't give Smith away. I apologize to you and your family and vow to do better.
My family appreciates your apology, my sensitive self is forever scared.

Sorry that little outburst wasn't really directed at you.

This is the scenario I hope plays out. I’d be willing to seriously up the ante to acquire Lundell.

Chychrun to FLA straight up for Lundell. This lessens the blow for FLA by not having to add to a prospect they don’t want to trade in the first place.

Lundell to NYR for Kakko + 1st or Chytil or Lundkvist (or some other D prospect AZ happens to like more).

I wouldn’t add VK to Kakko. We need RWs. But Lundell was LOVED by the Ranger staff and fills a major organizational need, hence my willingness to “overpay”.
Yeah we need to go and get Lundell if the Yotes acquire him. I’m thinking some one stop shopping with Larsson and Stralman coming back. I don’t think Kessel is a good fit maybe for this bunch.
Lundell/Larsson/Stralman for Chytil/Lundkvist/Kravtsov/1st/2nd/B prospect

He is a stud, and a physical specimen. It is kind of crazy how people around here are trying to downplay that.

He is what everyone here HOPES miller can turn into and he has super reasonable term
He has one productive season. As a d he doesn’t need to put up points but any player with that price tag better be able to.

I in no way thing Smith will be cheap out of Vegas. I know people want that to be the case, but I just don't think that will be the reality.

Yup. I understand that. That's what I'm saying--check in with Vegas and see if their forthcoming cap crunch might lead to a discount buy on Smith. If he proves to be too expensive, I'd rather spend less to bring in Kessel who, as a rental, isn't much of a drop from Smith. Especially if we can get him in a bundle with Chychrun (hell, taking his salary off Arizona's hands might actually be seen as a value add, haha).

If Arizona actually gets Florida to include Lundell, they aren't turning around and trading him away.

Re: the bold--out of curiosity, why not? I think he'd be a great fit on a line with Kreider and Zib, and he'd be a cheap rental with very solid post-season numbers.

If FLA really are willing to give up Lundell and ARZ really wants some high picks there is a base for a three way trade there that will give FL Chychrun, NYR a young C, and ARZ a number of prospects and picks to restart a real rebuildt.
It's far-fetched, but something along FLE gets Chychrun, NYR gets Lundell and ARZ get Knight + NYR 1. rounder + one of Lundkvist/Kravtsov/Chytil (ARZ pick 1).

Thats horrendous for Florida. Lundell and Knight? The Rangers who are involved for no sensible reason get Lundell while giving up secondary pieces? Florida could probably trade Lundell straight up for Chychrun but they wouldn’t...

I mean his teams are awful, completely awful. Any d man putting up 15+g on those teams is fine. If you put him on this team with the offensive players we have I'm confident he is putting up 40pts fairly easily...

kessel is interesting, but if he came here I think he helps lengthen the lineup as a 3rd line winger, we would still need to find another top 6 rw. A lot of this gets affected by where is panarin playing: lw or rw?

I don't want ANY short term rentals for this team - especially premium short termers. If it's not part of the big picture down the road then I'm not diverging myself of assets so some guy can play here for a month or two and sign somewhere else over the summer. This team might be able to do some damage in the playoffs but I'd really like to see their 5v5 play start to pick up significantly. Your PP and PK are exponentially less important/effective in the playoffs so relying on that as your road to victory is a fool's strategy.

I remember Trouba being a name that was salivated over here before we got him. I still think that trade and signing can be debated either way. Chychrun as a commodity strikes me similarly.
