Doing nothing up front would be fairly disappointing. I don't blame them for not wanting to give up premium assets for a guy like Rakell, and they shouldn't do that, but they need something.
I think we'll be disappointed if we're expecting personnel to change anything.

Thats because bums like you pay to read his crap. He doesn't have sources inside the organization anymore. Hasn't for years. Everything he states is pure speculation and sorry not an isles fan but a devils fan. He worked for them through the 80's and early 90's.

All of our beat writers are either fans of other teams or are just starting out in Mollie and haven't been able to get her sources yet.

But you guys go on and pay and read his nonsense.

You get all worked up when Larry is referenced or mentioned, as well as jumping on multiple posters including myself for simply discussing what he's writing about. Why such vitriol toward the guy & why can't we discuss it without you blowing a gasket?

LOL "Ghost of Reaves" I haven't seen him disrupt the opposition since he came here. Outside of smirks in the warmup he's practically useless
I disagree. He’s made every Ranger play braver. He’s top 5 in the league in body checks. He’s an excellent team mate. We are a totally different team this year than the past two seasons. Where we were intimidated and pushed around nightly. He’s made a big difference.

Does Copp have that many concussions? I used Copp as an example of what I would give up for a rental who the Rangers could sign. Not a very big fan of trading assets for rentals especially for a team like the Rangers who are at the beginning of their cycle. If the Rangers were a legitimate Cup contender and they needed that one final piece to push them over the hump, that's a different situation. The Rangers have needs upfront. If they have to dip into the prospect defense pool to fill those needs, they should do it. All of the D won't play here.

Seems like if the last one was a concussion (which some saying it was not) that would be his 5th?

He's been a mixed bag, IMO. I pointed out before we acquired him that his skating was problematic...which is why he doesn't have an impact certain nights. He has trouble keeping up in games where we play teams that skate really well.

True. Sometimes its what you DON'T see: like guys like Martin or Deslauriers getting overly agressive with the skilled players. Like a Dman you don't notice because he just makes the right unremarkable plays.
He's also third in the NHL in hits with 4-8 mins fewer in TOI (10:48) than the guys ahead of him (Gudas and Clutterbuck), and less TOI than anyone in the top 25... when he's out there he takes the body.

Watching the games live you can see defenseman running for their lives when Reaves is behind them. He makes an impact

Thats right Hunt and Gauthier are 4th liners (at best) masquerading as top 9 players. It would be great though if they could actually score a goal or 2. Panarin has more than lived up to his expensive contract as a Ranger and on his way to a 100 point season.
In his only season with the Rangers, Nik Zherdev had more points than Derek Stepan, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, and (for now) Chris Kreider ever did.

You can't draw apples to oranges comparisons based on points.

Different players have different expectations.

Calle Jarnkrok has 26 points in 49 games this season averaging just under 17 minutes per game. He plays every forward position. This is a pretty normal season for him.

2019-2020
34 points in 64 games

2020-2021
28 points in 49 games

2021-2022
26 points in 49 games

What is he really going to cost from Seattle? A 3rd and a depth prospect? Bring him in and give him a 2-3 year extension.

Larry says Robertson is a blue chip prospect but that anonymous exec piece Staple did made it sound like some execs don’t consider Lundkvist to be a blue chip prospect.

So I have no idea where these guys fall in terms of value

Someone here proposed Lundkvist to Vancouver for Hoglander. Edge said the Rangers had Hoglander under consideration for the Winnipeg #1 pick in 2019(acquired in the Hayes trade) before that pick was traded to the Jets in the Trouba deal.

3rd line LW. Has one more season on his ELC. $891,677. That cap number helps the Rangers next season. The Rangers can sign him to a 2 year bridge contract in 2023. No arbitration rights. The Rangers get a young forward under control. A lot can change in the next few seasons.

Jarnkrok is a terrible play driver. He's by no means Brett Howden, but he'll fall right into whatever his team is doing. Seems like a waste of assets for us.

Curious what folks thought of Karlsson. Seems as if Vegas is on the edge and talk of rebuilding is gaining steam. For shits and giggles, what would folks trade for Karlsson if he were available perhaps with some salary retention? His cap hit is 5.9 thru 26-27

If we do opt for a dman, I think they’d prefer Giordano over Lindholm. He should be cheaper to acquire since a team getting Lindholm will try to extend him, and he gives a bit more versatility playing around the pairings. He’s older, but he’s still having a really solid season in Seattle.

Rangers were apparently interested in him at the expansion draft, but Calgary/Seattle was asking for too much.

The other trade that makes way too much sense is working out a deal with Toronto for Nick Robertson. They don’t have room for him in their lineup, and Friedman was speculating that they’re going to give Abruzzeze/Knies looks once their college seasons end. We can slot Robertson at 2RW/3RW, and he’d be a much better fit than Gauthier/Hunt with this group moving forward.

Karlsson is a good even strength defender and shoots a lot. Would be right up our alley.

Depends on which Karlsson we're getting. He's been pretty pedestrian this year & completely lost the ability to finish.

However, I would think he would bounce back playing with Panarin...plus he plays a very effective 200 foot game, & other than this year, usually wins about 52% of his faceoffs, which is something we desperately need.

Forget about Salary Retention...Vegas can't afford to hold any money, they need every dime of cap space.

I'm saying that Hunt and Gauthier are both dime a dozen players who could both be replaced easily and neither would be missed. Has Panarin not lived up to expectations and his contract in his 3 seasons as a Ranger?
