Arthur Staple's latest podcast. This guy is willing to trade Robertson and 2nd round pick to rent Rakell. He also wrote that a few weeks ago. Staple said he asked someone about Helleson and they feel Robertson is better than Helleson. The Rangers should offer a 2nd and Robertson to Winnipeg for Copp with the intention of signing Copp to an extension. If they feel they can't sign him, don't make the trade. Copp and Trouba have known each other since they were 10 years old. They played together at the U.S. program. University of Michigan and Winnipeg. Staple brought up Lundkvist's situation. His agent is Claude Lemieux. He feels Lemieux could start complaining if his client is not playing in the NHL in the near future. Claude is also Lias Andersson's agent. Andersson is really lighting things up in Los Angeles. Vince Mercogliano said something similar a few weeks ago about Lundkvist.

The Rangers should consider trading Lundkvist and their first round for long term help. Trade Lundkvist for a forward prospect. There is no room for him here.

Too many unhappy players here. Andersson. Kravtsov. Georgiev. Lundkvist?
Doesn't Copp have 3 or 4 concussions?

Who cares what Arther Staple says we should do and who cares if some players are unhappy? I guess they should be unhappy if they don't play. Kravs dug his own grave with his tantrum or he would be playing in NHL right now. Georgiev sucks and still thinks he is a number 1 goalie. That's his delusion and this team owes him nothing. Lias Anderson sucked when he was here and is still a scrub in LA. Good thing we got a second for him. Robertson is big and steady and could be a future top 4 Dman. Does it make sense to trade him and a second for an inconsistent rental for a few months? Pass. I would trade Lundkvist only for a young top 6 cost controlled forward.

I don't see any deal that is imminent that would call for a first draft choice to change hands. JT Miller would be an outside possibility but beyond that it would have to be something out of left field. It is not going to be a rental of Giroux or Hertl. As much as I like both players, a trade for a rental does not merit a first draft pick.

Lundkvist is the next most viable trade chip. He may be more easily moved in the offseason and bring back higher value.

I'm fine moving a second for a real useful player (e.g. Andrew Copp if he is healthy) but I'm also looking for some value additions. I also expect the price of defensemen will drop because there is a glut in the market.

Patience, Christopher, patience.

Are Edmonton still in the hunt for the playoffs? They gave up 2 goals to M Staal, they really need to take a flier on Georgiev to solve their goal tending

Have we got anything that Florida would want? I still wouldn't mind getting Tippett as a 'shoot first' RW who should come in on a pretty reasonable RFA deal

While we angst over the Rangers, who here doesn't enjoy watching Vegas twist in the wind.

I went to the game they played here against the Coyotes two weeks agon and after the game I said to a couple of Vegas officials that if I didn't know better, I think they should be thinking about firing the coach. The team was not responding. I described it as dead team walking.

Maybe I wasn't so wrong.

Comtois would be interesting. His TOI is up pretty significantly the last 3-4 games by about 4-5 minutes compared to his average this year. Maybe that’s because Rakell is out or maybe he’s being showcased. I thought he looked good tonight

That was sarcasm

Well, the rest of it was serious! Context matters.

It’s odd that the Knights are going through their second malaise like this warranting the potential firing of a pretty good coach after only 6 years in existence. Something in the water?

Probably both. Comtois did some nice things tonight but also took a critical 3rd period penalty. I’d pass, we already have Chytil

It’s a bit unfair to pin it on Eichel because Eichel is coming back from injury, but no doubt the minute Vegas adds a big immobile center who doesn’t cover a lot of ice their game goes off a cliff. That is not surprising.

Vegas should still make the POs, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that trade will look an awful lot like the Islanders trade for Alexander Yashin. Chara, Spezza and Mucklat (sp) for Yashin.

Well a Yashin is a step forward compared to hot takes galore which said his head will fall as soon as he tries to play.
He'll be back to his best IMHO. The guy hadn't played for almost a YEAR, been suffering pain and had returned from an op pretty quickly.

WPG beating VGK 6-3.

That will bring them 2 pts behind Vegas with a game in hand.

If I were a betting man, Vegas is not making the playoffs.

Panic time in Vegas, lets take advantage

Yup get Smith for Georgiev plus
They only do that if they panic

Jets are in it so they may not move Copp and Stastny anyway

Going back to RB's post on the last thread regarding Copp, I don't think I burn assets on him unless he agrees to an extension upon being dealt here.
Copp is one of those guys you learn to appreciate for all the things he does so well. However, the obsession with him amongst fans on here, along with their support of an extension at 2C money will have them on here two years from now going, “I can’t believe we paid Copp 2C money.”

I would love Giroux. Outstanding play-driver.

Imagine he and Kreider on the same line. Sorry about having the puck, idiot.

Yeah I think so too, and it’s not like Yashin was bad for the Islanders either. He had some good years for them.

But do you win with players like that? That is another question. Of course you can win a cup with Eichel on your team. But to put it like this, if you spend a lot of resources to get a player like him and then devote a large portion of your cap to keeping the player, I don’t think it increases the odds, for most teams it probably make winning more or less impossible (like it would have for us if we matched Vegas offer and traded for Eichel, IMHO).
