I dont get why everyone is so worried about McKegg. He's the 13th forward, that's not a role I want Barron or any other prospect in. I do think Chytil/Gauthier/Hunt are essentially playing for their jobs before the deadline, and any could be replaced buy external adds or Barron if he continues to develop well.
He shouldn't be a 13th forward he should be a regular.

Anyone that uses the word straw man automatically gets sent to ignore. Just for the record.

Seems like something a straw man would do.

Call me simple but I'd be happy with this as a deadline from Drury.

To EDM:
Georgiev

To NYR:
Koskinen + EDM 2nd '23 + EDM 3rd '23

To MON:
Gauthier + EDM or NYR 3rd '23 (whichever is better)

To NYR:
Lehkonen

Panarin-Strome-Chytil
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kaako
Lafreniere-Goodrow-Lehkonen
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves
McKegg, Barron

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Nemeth-Schneider/Lundkvist
Hajek, Lundkvist/Schneider

Shesty
Koskinen/Kinkaid

I like the Lehkonen trade...Want no part of Koskinen. I'd rather keep Georgie til the off season.

If we trade Georgiev during the season could we convince Linbdom to come over to back up? I wouldn't be comfortable with Kinkaid.

Sure it was on the postgame after the San Jose game I believe. Or maybe the flyers game. I’ve got to go back and check which one it was.

Many thanks.

He does make a good point, and the lesser responsibility has helped to break him out of his funk (his shooting percentage relative to his career number is ridiculous this year, and he's been shooting a lot, too). I just worry about drawing a line in the sand for a 22 year old and saying "you must be a complete product" or "you are now a winger and that's it" when he hasn't really had significant minutes on a regular basis in 4 years. He may well be better suited to wing. But this team needs cost controlled centers next year. Just seems worth it to me to work through the growing pains and hope for the best.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I did hear a while back from someone in the know that there is some NYR interest in Ryan Poehling. No idea of what he would cost or what NYR would want to give up. Montreal wants draft picks I would assume, can Jeff Gordon and Chris Drury still dance after what transpired aka Wilson went Flexo? Time will tell…

I think the taxi squad gives the coach a great look at the team with regards to UFA signings in the summer. It's good to know what pieces you have on the board so we don't sign unnecessary players who take spots away and offer less.

Random idle thought, for the long term CAP health of the organization, maybe it's better that Kakko and Laf don't bust out of the gates as super stars. Like if we can get RFA deals out of them that are like 5 years @ 3.75M and THEN they become superstars, that might be best. I dunno, the flip side is they play like Towes and Kane, grab 3 cups and we live with giant $10.5M cap contracts. I feel like Hawks fans have zero regrets about that flip side. But our CAP isn't really set up to absorb two contracts like that the way the Hawks were in 2014

No interest in Poehling.

Interesting - Poehling is a 4th line center. Maybe as a Rooney replacement but I figure Barron fits that role as well. And if "a while back" means when Gorton was GM, doesn't that mean Gorton would want to hold on to him? I dunno. You'd have to specify "a while back"

But you take Koskinen if the swap brings back Holloway though. There’s a potential middle six center or winger for the future.

Certainly liked him in his draft year but have no idea how he’s developed or the lack there of.

I prefer him in Hartford if he's not getting significant minutes here. He's developing well. I think the McKegg stuff is complaining to complain.

And Gallant's quote about the AHL guys not being able to take NHL jobs is BS. Schneider literally just did it to Nils/Hajek/Tinordi
That kind of the whole point. If Barron looked bad or overwhelmed, we’d all rather him back in Hartford getting minutes.
Even rather have him their over playing on the taxi squad.
It’s not so much about McKegg as it is that Barron should probably be an nhl regular in some capacity at this point.
Id keep him on 3rd line. But it’s obvious gallant rather move up Rooney and play Barron on 4th if he has to.
Rooney is a 4th c. And he’s played well the majority of the year in that capacity.
I hate him on 3rd line. Barron is bigger, has a better shot, but is less seasoned.
It doesn’t look like gallant wants too many kids in the bottom 6.
Plus is chytil a c/w question? Etc. I think there’s just too many things going on between looking for what the rangers have currently, what they need long term, and what they should trade for at the TDL.
Barron getting ice is currently way down on the list of priorities.
Hopefully, by next season he’s an everyday nhl player, but playing up with the big boys for the Rest of the season also imo, would help his development.
I also think Rooney is a goner after this year and prices himself out of here.
But it’s just one of those line up decisions that aggravate you cause it’s clear he’s more comfortable with the vet even though the kid is prob a better option.
No ones going to agree with all the coaches moves, and up to this point they’ve won, so you can’t get too pissed. You can only hope like with schneider he forces the issue

No, those were good wins. But they followed that up by losing to Vegas and the Kings. So consistently they can't beat the better teams in the league. The standings are meaningless if a team isn't playing the right way.

I have also never seen a fanbase so rabid to defend a team with gigantic faults that will prevent them from getting to where we actually want to be. I have high standards, so I want this team to be more than what it is - why are you happy with what you've seen so far? You're happy with their 5v5 play? You're ok with the overreliance on special teams? You're ok with them sleepwalking through games against teams they should beat like the Sabres, Coyotes and Flyers? I'm not OK with any of that - why is their coaching staff?

The reason it keeps coming up is because the Rangers problems from October are still the Rangers problems in late January - that is concerning. And when they are their same problems in May and they are a first round out people shouldn't be like "why did this happen?" because we've been telling you all along. They need to be better in order to compete in May, and that's a lot more than just adding a player or two - it's coaching and its a mindset and it's the players starting to play the right way. Let's see how they play tonight and Friday, especially Friday because that IS a team they are likely to see in the First or Second round.
I waited to respond until after the game bc I hoped the team would write their own response to your comments, I believe they did all the talking necessary for today...

They sure did. Let's hope for more of the same on Friday, a huge 4 point game against another buzzsaw of a team.

To be clear, games like this are still not the norm, and they still have issues, but they've shown they can play like they can tonight, they need to do that again and again and again.

I kinda thought they continued to get pretty clearly outplayed. I’ll take the win but I feel like it’s still more of the same.
