I’ll say that part of the reason this team struggles so mightily at 5v5 is because the 3rd line has largely been a black hole this season. Solve that and the teams numbers start to rise. Go get a good 3rd liner and define that line’s role. We’ve seen what defining the 4th line has done for them. The 3rd line is close to there if deployed properly.

Panarin-Strome-Chytil
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kaako
Lafreniere-Goodrow-Jarnkrok/Lehkonen
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

It’s not as ‘sexy’ as adding a Radulov or Pavelski but I really don’t think adding a guy who will also need PP time is the correct course. Solidify the lines, continue to develop chemistry between pairs and groups over the next 15-20 games.

it basically replaces Blais. if he was healthy it would make a big difference

Question;

Whats the best site to use to compare players from an advances stats perspective? Also, are they free or do you need to pay for them?

evolving hockey has a decent compare. It's not free.

Who you trying to compare?

I have no idea if this trio would generate any offense.

If they can, that could be a great matchup line. If they can't, then its basically a 90's style checking line which doesn't really help us.
I think they'll play a simple yet effective game.

Danault produced no offense last playoffs.... but there's great value in shutting down the opposing top line

I wouldn't put Robertson in there at all, he's very likely a staple of this d going forward.

I've got him sitting somewhere in purgatory between the primary NYR prospects and secondary NYR prospects. Similar mid tier with Morgan Barron.

He's a staple if he progresses over the next 2 years to the NHL and Lindgren shows signs of wear and tear or Jones is dealt. There might be a spot for him then. But there's also the very real possibility that Miller, Jones, Lindgren have that side of the defense locked in for the next 5-8 years.

Yes. This is clear. We can’t score at even-strength. And I’d say the reason is the team in general looks like it’s waiting for a lucky break or a power play. And otherwise, they’re content to focus on defense. It’s working now but it’s not going to work in the playoffs. They need much more even-strength urgency and fight.

The good news is that if I can see it, Gallant surely sees it. Hopefully it’s reparable.

Choking the game 5v5 and using goaltending and a superhot PP to win is the exact recipe for success Tampa used to win the Cup.

I don’t want to tear it all down. I want to move out certain pieces until the future is secured. So that means we aren’t gonna win a Cup this year or next, bfd, we aren’t going to anyway.
So when then? Are you moving panarin out?

I think he's being really under rated around here.

Playing these guys on a second or third pairing isn’t sink or swim. Fox, Lindgren, and Nemeth, would all still be here.

I don’t see the risk of ruining them. I see the risk of losing games, but if we can sit here and say we want to see Jones-Lundkvist on the third pairing then I can certainly also say I want to see Miller-Schneider on the second pairing.

This idea that these young kids are gonna get ruined is outdated 1980s hockey thinking. Young kids play and excel in the pros all the time.
There is a difference between young forwards and young d men.

If you are running two pairs of freshmen and sophomores you are setting the team up to fail, regardless the Trouba trade whenever it happens is an offseason trade. Personally I have no issue with nils and jones being moved in smart trades. Fox is obviously a mainstay and regardless what ridiculous claims people want to make no team is winning a cup with half their defense being shorter than 5/10. The playoffs are too heavy of a game for that and it is rather consistently proven as such. Fox makes Nils redundant here even IF he hits his potential. They isn't room for two finesse rd that really should be serving the same purpose on a team. Jones at least offer flexibility in that he can play the left side.

I see us like Carolina or Florida where they were decent teams but couldn't get over the hump until their young kids arrived. They are there now, their kids are a big part of it all, i see us arriving in the same spot in 1 to 2 years.

You think we're Tampa? Not close.

I didn't say we are Tampa. I said Tampa used that approach to win, and now GG is using that approach to good effect during the regular season. Nobody is saying that we are perfect as we are, if I need to spell that out for some people.

That approached worked for Tampa because they were a strong team with no holes in it. Thats not us
