Pionk has gotten worse as the season has moved along but I have to wonder if part of the reason for his deterioration this year is the fact that Quinn rode him with too many minutes early in the year and that he isn't quite 100% healthy. For a guy who utilizes his quickness and speed to be a good 3rd pairing guy, having dead legs or not being 100% healthy would sink that sip

Frankly, a good portion of the rookies or guys just outside of that designation, who were deployed early in the season, have hit the wall.

Chytil hasn't scored in a month. Howden since November.

Even a guy like ADA, who has improved and found a regular spot in the lineup, has two goals since November 9th. And they were scored in the same game against Carolina more than a month and a half ago.

Everyone expects the Rangers to go back to the old approach.

Down the road is the right approach. Down the road is not this summer. Not Panarin.

"Career years".

Down the road may very well mean a couple months from now to him.
And saying, ‘not only are they giving us leadership, but they’re having career years’ could just be what it sounds like on a surface level.

What I was told by someone who knows is that Fox will either sign with Carolina as soon as his college season ends or he won’t be signing. It’s one big advantage the Canes have. The value for him is to burn a year of his entry level contract. I’d watch this closely over the next few weeks.
Kid don’t worry about burning a year off your ELC. You do what you have to and the rangers will sign you to enough contracts where that won’t even matter

Disagree... they don't want to trade the guy who makes it elsewhere. They'll hang onto him until at least next deadline. I think it'll Mirror the Yakupov situation.

So sickening... Cut your losses now, they are never going to get what he is actually worth

Put yourself in Winnipeg’s shoes for a minute. They are headed for cap hell this summer. Their history with Trouba is contentious. They have three top four right hand defensemen and Trouba is the youngest. I think they would certainly like to sign him but the reality is that if they don’t, will they hold him till the end of the 19-20 season? Can they afford him?

There’s a lot of moving parts here. My point is that if Trouba is available, I expect the Rangers to be players. Big players. I get to watch him a lot and he is a) an excellent player and b) the kind of guy you can build around. 25 year old top pair defenseman don’t come available very often. The question is will he be available?

Winnipeg out of spite will probably hold him and let him go to UFA, honestly. Chevy is cheap, I think he sees more value in squeezing every last drop out of a players cost controlled years than he does in the draft picks that player can bring back

I don't think "the letter" gets made without assurance that it can be seen through to completion.

agree 100%....plus not making huge long term investments doesn't mean sitting on all that cap space. there are guys they can look at as stopgaps in the short term

There are lots of ways to spend $17M this summer that don't involve giving someone 10%+ of the cap.

Until or unless Gorton says the team is explicitly not interested in Panarin, people will suspect NYR will be interested.

With good reason to some extent - players with his production and lack of NHL mileage aren't available much ever, let alone for nothing but cash.

I'm here for trying to get some RFAs team cannot afford this summer and paying them well. I would prefer to trade for them instead of banking on an offer sheet.

If we are not targeting Kapanen as a trade candidate this summer, we are doing something wrong.

I gathered from Gortons comments that he would actively be looking at RFA players. Mentioned that he had all his picks and would be looking for good young players.

I agree, same things happening with Chytil who said the longer season has taken its toll on him. While I don’t like Pionk and think he’s been awful, I don’t know how else you drop off that much. He wasn’t as bad earlier

Could be wishful thinking, but after reading what JG said in the link posted by RB, I still think Kreider is getting re-signed, unless his contract demands are that outrageous.
I came away with the opposite interpretation. I felt like he was really hedging his comments. A lot about evaluating and future and fit. I found it odd a GM wasn't doing the cliche thing of just backing his players.

But if I think this, and you think that, the only thing I can say with any confidence is Gorton is extremely guarded and whatever we are reading into his comments is purely planted by our own minds. That guy isn't saying anything so we are all filling in the chasm.

The human aspect of this is always overlooked. These are kids. I honestly don't know how I'd be handling it at 19-20, especially if I had no family around.... or didn't speak the language

I got the sense that Gorton is still open for business.

Part of me also wonders if Kreider slowing down also has him wondering just how high and how long he might want to go on a contract.

That’s why I really want us to be patient and not get too caught up in comments lIke, “Player X should be good for 40 points as a rookie next season.”

If it happens, great. But I’m hestitsnt to go in with that expectation.

think georgiev should be moved this summer. hank isnt going anywhere and has imo another while of great play left once we have a competent defense, and igor is the future undoubtedly. with how good he's been and how he'll get atleast 50% of remaining games, have to think his value will be VERY high this summer.

depending on how year finishes for CGY, they could be moving on from smith and/or rittich, so georgiev could get a shot there. if they go for big fish (a la Bob), then that mean's he's left CBJ.

That would mean CBJ would be looking for a goalie, and Georgiev could fit that bill if they don't trust in Korpi (he's had a rough season).

FLA could miss out on Bob and could potentially look for Georgiev to replace Reimer as he's younger and could be successor to Lou.

Really think theres a market for him, and we should capitalize

not worried about chytil. don't think he'll be a 1st line C, but could be 1st line W. If not, see him being similar to buch as a solid 2nd liner. Lias has looked better in this second call up, while howden has struggled ever since his hot start. Howden for me looks to be 3rd line checker, while lias could be anywehre from a middle 6- to a legitimate top 6 C.... not sure yet.

Defense: DeA has figured it out. Super excited about his future. Skjei has looked better too. Smith has looked better and even in this miniscule sample size Smith/Skjei being reunited looks awesome. Shatty has been better last month but not sure his role/need moving forward with DeA being that offensive RHD...and that's even before mentioning the karlsson rumors (not convinced theres anything there but still). Hajek/Lindgren have both looked solid in calllups.

Russian prospects are very promising. Kravtsov is tantalizing. Rykov is rising. Shesterkin is the future in nets. Very excited about these guys, + Keane in OHL. Day has looked solid in Harford and could still save some of that old potential. Looks like a possible top-6 defenseman, but would love to see him rekindle that crazy form and be a top 4 D (one can hope lol)
