Someone mentioned that the timing has to be like when the Hawks signed Hossa. Guess what? He was 30. Panarin will be 28. So you're basically talking about getting Hossa, but instead of coming into a situation of an up and coming team, he'll already be here. That's the only difference.

Towes and Kane were already playing in the NHL before they signed Hossa. In fact that team went all the way to the WCF the year before with their young core.

Thats the timing issue.

Yeah, but that team had it’s core in place and had gone to the conference finals the year prior. There weren’t really any questions about the direction that team would take, whereas with the Rangers the future is a lot more questionable.

I get why some of you are worried about the timing, but I would be willing to take the risk. Especially when you look at the UFA classes in the following offseasons, not pretty. And sure, I guess the Rangers could stay out of the UFA market, but if they are ready to contend sooner than I'd rather have Panarin than overpaying someone like RNH in 2 years.

I really think Gorton is committed to rebuilding through the draft. From all the things he’s said and the moves he’s made, he doesn’t sound like a guy who’s looking to take shortcuts.

And in 2 years, the Rangers will also hopefully have their core in place.

If they don't have a core in place 2 years from now, they're not going anywhere anyway. What's the difference between having Panarin and not?

Basically what you're saying is that, had the Blackhawks signed Hossa in 2007, Keith, Toews, and Kane never would've developed. I don't buy it.

Gorts post TDL interview, he specifically mentioned the path of 10 or so picks this year, next year, then stuttered "and the next".

Seems to me they are looking to a few years of bottom dwelling till the 3 Dmen contracts run out.

Panarin shmanerin.

I'd pass on Panarin, let's nail the 2019 draft, and load up for the 2020 draft. After that, we should look to turn the corner. Do it right.

Honestly, I like Panarin, but I'd be A LOT more interested if he were a top line center or top pairing defenseman.

I don't think this is an either or proposition. They can nail the draft before even signing him, and continue to pick up 2020 picks after signing him.

If you sign him to finish 12th from the bottom instead of 4th from the bottom, then you certainly impact the 2020 draft.

Again, top line center or top d-man to me is a different story.

Top winger strikes me as more of a luxury.

They also signed Hossa to a contract that is no longer viable under the current CBA. The first 7 years of that deal, he made 7.9 mil per year, but his cap hit was only 5.275 mil.

You guys are getting crazy. What makes anyone think the rangers are ever gonna be worse than right now and they are still 6-9. If panarin will sign, they are gonna sign him. He’s a top line player, started late. Bank on it. Gorton is in on him. There is no chance in heck the rangers are gonna be worse than this year going forward, with or without panarin. The pick is gonna be 8-18 regardless. The idea that the rangers are gonna be bottom-5 without panarin is wishful thinking. Y’all better hope they start losing and than get lucky in the lottery. Bc this year is the only chance. Bet my pants on it

Conceivably, trading Kreider and signing Panarin could be quite the addition of assets for this organization.

Kreider for A-level prospect + 1st 2020 + 2nd 2020

Sign Panarin for just money
Dude, Kreider isn't fetching that return.

Mark Stone is younger and better than Kreider and he literally just got traded for an A prospect and a 2nd.

Looking back on Toronto signing Tavares this past summer, was it the right move for them? Yes or no, and why?

Without a doubt the right move. They should have moved nylander immediately afterwards for a proven top 4 and another guy who will become top 4 in time. They’d be favorites right now
