This org fed Huska to the wolves in order to preserve the scintilla of trade value Georgiev regained this week. Awful. I don’t know how Georgiev looks at himself in the mirror after what Huska went through last night.

Couldn't agree more. Yes, Huska let in some soft goals but there was no defense against the highest scoring team in the league. Plus, Geo would have let up 4 or 5 himself. Can't kill the kid after 1 game in the NHL in the garden not on the road and against Colorado--nervous as hell. I will say he did not look ready for the NHL yet---needs some more seasoning in the AHL.

Yeah I don't understand why Georgiev didn't just get back to backs.
This was the right move. Huska has been in the system for what, 5 years now? Time to see what he's got. And let's let Georgiev get some steam, some confidence, some trade value.

They were due for a loss, due for a spanking. Move on and look ahead to the next game. Igor soon.

Guys who I could see the team acquiring at the deadline:

D
Nick Holden - last year of his deal @ $1.7m

F
Max Domi - last year of his deal @ $5.3m
Vlad Namestnikov - last year of his deal @ $2m
Antoine Roussel - last year of his deal @ $3m
Johan Larsson - last year of his deal @ $1.4m

G
Thomas Greiss - last year of his deal @ $3.6m
Jaroslav Halak - last year of his deal @ $1.5m

Roussel and Halak would fit nicely.

Roussel could play third line center and add an additional edge to the team.

Halak much better then Geo.

Huska is 24 and has been in our system (AHL and ECHL) for four seasons. He’s an RFA and and has Wall breathing down his neck.

We need to find out what we have in him, if anything, but Colorado was not the opponent for his first NHL start. That was all about protecting Georgiev.

Maybe it was the right call given the alternative of shattering Georgiev’s fragile psyche, but it still sucks for Huska.

Roussel would be a fine depth option, but he shouldn't be a third liner or a center at this stage of his career. He's taken 21 faceoffs over the past two seasons.

I don't disagree with you. But it's refreshing to see them try to work with one of these problem child players (Georgiev) instead of tanking their value stubbornly (TDA, VK) for once.

he can ? I don't recall Roussel ever being a center at this level.

Holden was another guy who got more flak from the fans here than he deserved. Guy was a great 3rd pairing defenseman.
he definitely was, I think everyone remembers him being on the ice for literally every late goal in the Senators series. which was a travesty.

I suppose with Igor out, they know they have no choice but to cater to Georgiev’s needs.

Kakko will be a good player but it looks like Hughes, Zegras, Byram and Seider will have surpassed him. Hope he end up jumping some of those.

If they add players, who of those which are currently playing gets scratched?

Or are they adding in players who will be scratched?

The players they'd be adding are better than Tinordi, Hajek, Barron, Jones?

Or are they bringing in players who would bump Hunt, Goodrow, Reeves, Rooney, Gauthier, Lundkvist, Nemeth, either down or out of the playing roster?

Depending on the position they fill. I could see Hunt or Goat getting the scratch. While Hunt has been good w/Bread & Strome I'm sure they'd like someone w/a bit more of a finishing touch. That being said if they might want to keep him in the lineup and move him to Gaut spot if the line doesn't start potting more points. Also Gaut might be involved in the move to acquire said player if it's a upgrade in the top 6.

Right, yet I see somewhat of a dilemma there.

Something like, hey Hunt, we know you've been good, and are signed for next year, but we are dropping you down or scratching you cause we got a new guy we think fits better.

It's kind of like when the rental ideas come about, all the talk about team chemistry or building, or locker-room which seem to be playing out pretty well right now, all kind of goes out the window.

THEORETICAL PLAYOFF ROSTER
Kreider - Zib - KK
Bread - Strome - R Smith
LAF - Chytil - Hunt
/Gauthier
Goodrow - Rooney - Reaves/Deslauriers
Extras (Nigrum Acc): Barron, McKegg, Pajuniemi

Lindgren - Fox Norris
Miller/Giordano - Trouba
Giordano/Miller - Nemeth

Extras (Nigrum Acc): Nils - Jones plus two of Schneider, Bitetto and Tinordi

Shesty
Halak or Holtby
Extras (Nigrum Acc): Kinkaid, Huuska (if he recovers from yesterday)

LTIR - Sammy whammy Bull
??? - Kravtsov

To acquire the above theorized depth & all soon to be UFA players (red), expect to see a few minor pieces from the above (plus Georgiev, Hajek, prospects and picks) being dealt.

Man, the prospect of paying Kaako $6 mill a year to be, what, a 2nd/3rd liner putting up 0.5 PPG? 0.6? What's Kaako's ceiling? I don't know, boys. I'm for a package deal to get someone of Kane's ability. The problem, of course, is that Kane specifically is a no-go, too old, and too suspect off the ice. But if there's a disgruntled star in their prime out there, I'm pulling the trigger, without hesitation. Kaako is going to get better, but it's hard to imagine him a game changing star. Kaako might be most valuable as a what-if chip, then when the jury is decided what he actually is.

Teams who trade away their top young players don't win cups. They just acquire new top young players through the draft because they suck.

Chicago didn't win 3 Cups by trading away Kane, Toews and picks for a guy like Datsyuk back in 2008. They won, because they were patient. They went through with their plan.

That doesn't even take into consideration the cap hit which we can't even afford at 50% retained.

Is there anything that can be done to fix the Mika line or is it just a waiting game until he gets out of his funk? He only ever looks dangerous off the rush. The few times that line has looked good is when Kakko is dominating the game. I would hate to move guys around on that top line because I feel it's the best matchup line this team can roll out, but is the chemistry just not there or is it just Mika right now?

I think an issue with why his goal scoring is done is his spot on PP. He & Panarin use to be one time shots on the left boards. Maybe I'm off but he seems to be posted up in the middle of the ice which is harder for him to get his shot off vs being 1 of 2 options for the one timer.

I think the plan for the Rangers would be to bring in a couple of players who could add some depth to the team in the case of an injury, improving on guys like Tinordi and McKegg. I wouldn't think Drury opens up the coffers for someone like Lindholm as a rental.

I could definitely see young players who could probably play in the NHL as depth pieces now like Reunanen, Gettinger, Khoderenko, maybe Pajuniemi as bait to bring in some depth. By that I mean:

Gettinger for Roussel

Reunanen for Holden

Things like that. Are either Roussel or Holden going to be 'flashy'? Nope. But they would come in as bottom-pairing/7D and 4th line/13th forward additions.
