The Rangers gave a soon to be 27 year old Brassard a 5 year contract in 2014. He was good for the first two seasons of the contract. His play dipped in his last season with the Rangers. The Rangers traded him to Ottawa in 2016. Brassard has been terrible in the last three seasons of the contract. He is also on his 4th team since signing that contract. Ottawa. Pittsburgh. Florida. Colorado.

Gorton was fortunate he found a taker for the Brassard contract when he did.

Brassard is a perfect example of the aging curve.

90% of the people here loved him & were crying like Lundqvist was crying about Zuccarello on Sunday afternoon when the Brassard for Mika trade was made.

Kreider will be 29 when his extension starts. How many years of the contract will he be the same player?

If you believe what Carpiniello writes, he brought up the Brassard contract as a reason why the Rangers didn't re-sign Hayes. They signed him to a one year contract and traded him. When he signed that contract last July, you knew Hayes was a goner.

Gorton's comments on Monday about Kreider were so noncommittal. We're going to talk to his people when the time comes and see where we are at. Chris has gotten better every year and is a good player for us right now.

Trade him.

Brooks is so concerned about Stone getting $9.5M in Vegas which has no state and city income tax. Panarin will want $11M to play in New York or California. The number has always been $11M. What did Brooks think Panarin was going to get before Stone agreed to terms in Vegas? Panarin might want more than $11M. More than half of that $11M will go towards taxes. Escrow.

If the Rangers want to add elite talent and speed up the rebuild process, stop getting points in meaningless games. They have tried everything except that over the last 80 years.

That is a scary thought, I am leaning towards trading Kreider for a top 7 draft pick.

Dear god man, you go from stalking and harassing our prospects, their family members, and now HF members.......

That gif is pure nightmare fuel.

I'm definitely torn on what to do with Kreider, he won't get a 7 year extensions since this team doesn't give those out to it's own player so not worried about that. 6x7 or 6x7.5 is pretty reasonable when Stone or Panarin take 9.5m or more. Maybe try to do a 5x7.5 deal for him. I would probably re-sign him if he's still around on July 1st. I would definitely trade him for a top 10 pick at this years draft, that's a no brainer. I would not care for trading him for the Skinner, Hoffman, Zucc type returns. We actually need a couple of good vets to have around the kids, Mika and Kreider could be those vets, otherwise you're overpaying to bring in declining UFA's to be those vets.

There is no easy decision with Kreider.

You sign him and you’ll be paying him a premium for a long ass time, well into his 30’s where most players start their natural regression.

You move him and you’re likely not drafting or procuring a prospect as good as him.

Pick your poison scenario.

I don’t see any team offering is a top-10 pick this draft either. Not for a pending UFA. Stepan got that because he had term, and that draft class was not as good.

How in the name of everything is it a no brainer? You are trading Kreider for the 8thOQ pick???

You say that and yet you are trading him for a pick that will not be Hughes?? This cannot be Edmonton with a bunch of kids running the show. You do need veteran leadership, preferably not a veteran hired gun. You know what else happens when your two vet leaders are legit top line players? You do not need to put your youngsters into positions that they are not ready to step into.

I was on a fence before but this earned you an ignore. You haven't been around here for 5 minutes and already chose to insult one of the more respected board members who actually makes valuable contributions (as opposed to nonsense in most of your posts).
Um, Crypto Guy has been around as long as almost anyone if you count his previous aliases.

Not every player is the same. Kreider isn't Brassard, Stepan isn't Kreider. There's no hard and fast rule that states EVERY player over the age of 27 has to be traded. Just like there's no rule that they can't sign a FA this summer if they think he'll help the team. No GM runs a team like that.

At 36 seconds, Jeff Gorton said the key to this whole thing is drafting well.

Gorton mentions having 10 picks in this draft, having 10 picks in the next draft & having 9/10 picks in the last draft.

Gorton wants to add more picks for the 2020 draft.

And they can trade Namestnikov to add an additional pick. Possibly Strome.

Here’s what I’d do with Kreider: Talk to him and his agent when the season is over, have a term limit and don’t include any trade clauses, if he’s not open to those conditions on a new contract, trade him over the summer, if he is try to get a deal done, if it’s not done by a few weeks before the trade deadline, start shopping him

They came to watch their kid play. Give them their peace. Could you imagine if 50 people went up to them every game? Thankfully most people have decent courtesy.

I think these parents probably gush over the idea about speaking with other people about their kids. Those kids are their pride and joy. They probably love it. Especially the younger players trying to make a name for themselves.

Now, if someone wanted to talk to Gretzky about his daughter during a game... Yea, he probably wouldn't like it.

OK, so, in the 2020 draft we already have 10 picks, same in this draft. I think he means he wants 9/10 picks in 2021 as well. Maybe I am misunderstanding. Based on this we need to add 2 picks somewhere in the 2021 draft to meet his thought process. I am guessing Names/Fast/Vesey/Shattenkirk/etc can get us those 2 picks.

I don't see Namestnikov at $4 million being much of a commodity with free agency looming. See him as a deadline move.
Agree. We'll need warm bodies next season. He won't get us much more this summer than he would at the next deadline.

A 2nd round pick is more than fair for him, maybe even could get a 3rd or 4th if the Rangers retain. I don't see him getting much more this summer.

I agree. Thats where they can add more picks. Teams will be interested in him and some others. Maybe Shattenkirk with money retained. Maybe Smith. Who knows. They can establish that during next season.

But they dont need to trade Kreider

I agree with your thinking,

I don't think it would be impossible to trade Kreider plus some pick to maybe move up, finding the team who is looking to make the playoffs in after say the slot 11 or so, it's easier than finding one before 11 who is not rebuilding in their own right.

Still no one will like that sort of trade (perhaps not even myself) , yet say Tampa does win, would #31 plus Kreider maybe move them to slot #11, 12, 13 or so should Buffalo, Florida, Colorado hold that pick?
