If Vancouver would eat his cap hit, I'd be for Pettersson. But it'd cost us a lot... or maybe Benning is dumb enough to give him away

but seriously, I would have given that easily. A mid-tier prospect + a 2nd. It was a no brainer. ESPECIALLY with how soft we were last season.

At this point of the 'build', it's ok to overpay for a piece you like/need. We have so many assets.

I legitimately believe Kravtsov is the best player on the planet so I wouldn't be okay with trading him for anyone except MAYBE McDavid. But Pettersson is one of my favorites. I would want to do something like

Chytil, Strome, Lundkvist, 2022 1st for Pettersson

Sure, we can play what-if-isms all day. If it's just a second round pick in this particular example then no problem. But that's not what I was referring too. I was referring to a bigger trade idea that sends our prospects away in a similar vein to what we've done in the past when we were already more established for our respective windows.

I like the offer but I think it would be more like your boy Kravs then Strome.

Would Chytil, Kravs, Lundy and a 1st do it. That’s a ton but Petterson replaces Chytil plus some on both sides of the puck. Schneider or Jones replaces Lundy plus we still have the other player in our system. Kravs whom I also like most likely will never play in NY—damn shame. The 1st could be a low pick.

Strome may need to go somewhere else for cap space.

I know it wont be popular but Anaheim has a couple of players I'd be interested in @ 50%. If they fall off I'd be all for.....

Adam Henrique @ 50% imo a perfect replacement for Strome. fallback if Chytil doesn't work.

Yes, many of us wanted him at the discount last year. Especially when we were lacking physicality. Florida has assembled a nice squad on the pan handle.
It’s too bad we could get a player like Robert Thomas early, someone in that vein.
The Long term 2C of this team is really going to be an issue, unless we get a guy that’s youngish that comes out of no where. Similar to how strome did.
Chytil looks like he’s cursed with lack of finish, like someone put voodoo on him.
It’s almost a guarantee that he plays well, yet misses an open net weekly.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he puts it all together at 24-25 years old and becomes a solid player. I do doubt that NYR waits that long with him if that’s the case though.
Just when you think he’s starting to get going, he gets injured and has to start from square 1 when he returns.

He wins like 7/100 more faceoffs than Strome. Its really not a significant amount. The fancy stat heroes will also chime in and tell you that faceoffs are actually a pretty irrelevant stat.

And still some salary will have to go the other way like Chytil’s which no one should want to do unless we want to find ourselves on the wrong end of Zibanejad like trade.

It doesn’t f***ing work salary wise.

Like it or not the Rangers identified their core for foreseeable future so if you suggest to bring in Pettersson - which is a pipe dream anyway - it will take a much bigger roster piece than Chytil. And please don’t mention Strome since he’s not in the plans / cap for 22-23 anyway.

Dammit, again. This season’s cap space is aplenty. Strome is NOT on it so someone else besides him and Chytil has to be gone from the roster with over $3m cap space to free up vs replacement.
