I know there is a black cloud over that organization right now but I would still be interested in either.

My first choice for a Center rental is absolutely Pavelski, if he ends up being available.

I like DeBrusk on the cheap but Boston wont deal him on the cheap. I am talking a 3rd rounder or less.
Kane at RW setting up Mika and Kreider is tempting.

Best move Drury can make is find the 2c we need via trade, shift Strome to RW.

Fills a two needs with one move. Placates Panarin till this seasons run reaches it conclusion. Maybe even puts an uneasy thought in the back of Stromes mind and he puts his best effort in to give his agent some wood for the negotiations fire this summer.

I dont mind this idea at all. There is an in house option here too and thats moving Goodrow to 2c and Kakko to Zib line, Strome on Panarins wing. Atleast with Goodrow our faceoffs should improve

I was speaking to the idea of selling off Strome for futures vs self renting (which would be better for team morale).

An upgrade would be ideal, but tends not to be the type of trade you see at the deadline (a contender won’t want to move core pieces and a seller doesn’t want Strome).

you know, someone brought up trading Lindgren this past offseason.... I think he may be on to something.

Lindgren + Lundkvist/Kravtsov for Turcotte

KAM Fox
Jones Trouba
Robertson/Nemeth/Schneider

Given the cap crunch coming over the next few years, it feels like moving Lindgren is inevitable. If he can result in an upgrade at C, it has to be explored

I feel like the org really wants Lundkvist to develop so they can dangle him. Entice dumb teams with 'another Foxy'
I feel like you want to move lundkvist and not give him time to develop. Kids first season in the top tier league, first year living abroad & learning the new rink size. Give him some time before shipping him off. It hasn’t even been 25 games

If we didn't have Schneider, he wouldn't be moved. Jones also plays the Right Side. Both have been better and provide more than Lundkvist imo. It's obvious and logical to move Lundkvist.

The hypothetical deals are in the offseason not tomorrow.

No it's not.

We dont need more assets, we have enough to land a center.

I find this hard to believe since we haven’t done it yet and what’s more are desperately short of top 6 talent right now.

Playoff experience is more valuable.

They will get some whether Strome is here or not.

Trading Strome, without a deserving replacement, is setting up your team to fail and horrendous management.

Again, it depends on what you are getting. For one middling pick? Fine, keep him.

For a first and a prospect who projects to be a first liner someday? Malpractice not to accept that haul.

There is no argument to be made that 12 playoff games instead of 6 is more valuable that a 20 year old future 60 point winger, just none at all. That’s insanity.

Re: Strome for futures. If we’re talking about strictly team building with no context outside pure asset management, then I’d agree. However, we’ve been operating that way for 4 years now.

At some point, the selling is over and you have to show your team you believe in them. You don’t have to go on a buying spree at the deadline (that comes later, when we take the next step as contenders), but it does mean you have to not actively make the roster worse when they’ve fought hard all year to put themselves in a strong PO position.

There is simply no point in holding onto assets that are walking out the door after the season unless you think the team can make a legit Cup run.

This team cannot.

Your trade suggestions are all terrible for the Rangers.
different expectations. You want potential and futures. I want to build a team to win.

You're also EdJovo with Lundkvist... he was suppose to be Adam Fox, best defensive prospect in the world, what happened?

And re: the whole “no more selling for futures,” logic….

This is why they say you can’t rebuild in NYC. It’s this lack of patience. Too many fans embody it.

You have to win trades. Don’t overpay. Don’t overpay by retaining an asset you could win a trade for.

No hard and fast rules. Buy at the deadline if you can add a young-ish piece for a good price. But if you can get a haul, they should do that as well.

This team isn’t an aging, mature team ready for a Cup run. Keep winning transactions.

That means if someone is willing to overpay for Strome, as teams often are at the deadline, they should do it.

Who doesn’t want to win? I want to win.

This team isn’t winning the Cup this year though and needs a 2C. Moving Strome accomplishes that way better than an extra 6 playoff games does.

Maybe give him more than 20 games? Or are we judging everything by preseason results now?

Strome is not returning anything remotely close to what you think he is. Pavel Buchnevich returned Blais and a 2nd. What mythical return do you have in your head? Robertson and a 1st? Not happening.

We'll see what teams will be willing to give up 1st rounders this trade deadline. I don't think there will be many, if any.

Well as I already said if all they are offered is a second or third, I won’t be upset if they self rent. I’m not calling for deliberate tanking after all.

I am not sure I agree that we won’t get that. Kreider was a first and Robertson. Strome is a center.

Maybe not but if they do get that offer they should absolutely do it, period.

PS Edge said we had better offers for Buch but took the St Louis deal because we preferred Blais. Another mistake.

Just because we're not the 'top cup favorites', doesn't mean it's can't happen. You're treating a low% chance as impossible. It's not impossible... The chances are actually pretty good considering we haven't made the playoffs in years.

You can go ahead and bookmark this post that we are not winning a Cup this year, buying, selling or self-renting. Those are betting odds, not anything to do with statistical chances based on our play.

Next year might be the year to start taking our swings, it may not, it will heavily depend on whether we find a top center and whether Laf and Kakko come along.

If they don’t, it’s time to start thinking about retooling again already because Kreider, Zibanejad and Panarin will start declining in another season or so.

GREAT....hope he scores a 100 this season since he is stuck there all season , helps up the ante. Looks good on him . We'll get by without his 7 goals here likely and be a better closer knit team when it is all done . Plus when we play him in any NHL games as the opposition hopefully life will be made miserable for him .

I hope he comes back and is an 80 point player for us. Would solve a lot of issues.

So if we don’t win this year or next year and Laf and Kakko have not ascended to elite talents, our plan is to win the Cup on the backs of 31 year old Mika, 32 year old Panarin, and 33 year old Kreider?

Come on.
