That’s fair, but the gap is significant enough in their production that I’d still take Point. Would prefer Point over Stamkos. He’s more important to that team.
That I'll agree with. Stamkos is still very talented but he's not nearly the player he was 5 or 6 years ago.

Also, people need to remember Gorton took on cap dump already from Boston in McQuaid. One who will most likely return more than he paid. That's a nice, under the radar move for him. Same with McLeod and Mazanec

Holland was going to be useless to us anyway, and we managed to get back a 22yo RD who is putting up .5 ppg in his 2nd pro season. Nice!

Point is the best player in the deal. I don't know that light speed would be even remotely as fast as the speed in which Gorton says yes to that.
Point doesn't get the hardest matchups and its unclear whether he could be the go to guy and draw the tough assignments while putting up the same numbers on a less talented team. Zibby has already proven that he can do that. Plus on top of what Point is going to command/get compared to what Zibby is already signed under. It's def not as slam-dunk as you think it would be. Is Point putting up the numbers alongside Zuc and Kreider this year?

I had THE WORST experience w ATT over my uverse... I complained to Better Business Bureu finally and they took care of it... so DIRTV but bewarned that when we get storms in the summer (daily) it goes out
Ugh damnit. That doesn't sound like the greatest approval. ill start looking into these things. At least I know where to start, thanks for the info buddy. I appreciate it.

Vegas and Dallas have the same advantage of its residents not having to pay state income tax. There's no single solution that would make everyone happy. The only thing I can think of is to take the nation's average income tax %, and make players that sign to those teams take that % out and put it in escrow (on top of the already ridiculous amount that already goes into escrow). Nobody wins in that scenario.

A soft upper salary cap with luxury tax and a cap floor is the only feasible solution that MAY work out, but it would be a tough sell for a lot of the small market teams.

Why should players in LV/FL/TX have to subsidize those in high tax states? If NY/IL/CA tax rates were actually justified by the quality of life difference it wouldn't be an advantage.

From the league's perspective, high tax rates correlate pretty closely with market size (NY, LA, Chicago, Canada teams, Boston...less so Isles, Devils, Ducks) so this in a way is a competitive/financial plus for smaller markets. Aka not sure it is a hill they will fight for.

Not a fan of retaining and taking back Callahan.

The Rangers could buy him out if they didn't want to bring him into the fold for a year. Would probably equate to less than what they'd be paying Shattenkirk over the next two years even if they retained 50% on Shatty. For a good winger prospect and a 1st it's probably something I'd do. Though I'd also ask for a 2nd round pick in 2020. Guaranteed 1st to take Callahan as a dump. Raddysh and a 2nd for Shattenkirk at 25% retained.

I'm trying to find the thread but there was one on NHL Talk within the last month or two. IIRC, LatvianTwist did the math and it wasn't as significant as we think.

I think the Kucherov contract is also a bit of a discount because he wants to play there. If he was on Florida, I'd venture a guess he would NOT be taking 9.5 to play there.

I mean, if I was a player I'd take less to play in Tampa. Taxes aside, the city is nice, they have a beautiful arena and a great team. When I saw the Rangers play in 2014 at Amalie arena I was so impressed with what the Lightning have.
Plz be aware that “What the lighting have” is a fairly recent ideal.

Up until as recently as 10 years or so ago, the place was packed w 50/50 fans. It wasn’t until their recent resurgence that it’s become the place it is. Even when they won their cup.

It’s very fan friendly now but it’s BECAUSE they were struggling even after winning a cup that they’ve gone to the dog, pony and flea circus show that it is.

It’s a quality place to watch a game now, don’t get me wrong, but that is a new concept mostly.

I think that if TB was smart, they would be drafting and developing goalies regularly to keep that positions cap hit down, yes. If they don't have anyone internally when he is about to reach UFA then there is no choice but I am of the opinion that having a goalie making $3-5M is a very smart business decision with the way the cap has effected spending elsewhere.

Also, didn't TB already do this? They spent a 1st rounder on Vaz when they had Bishop. How many people would complain if the Rangers did the same?
Not if we needed one. Yet they take one yearly regardless of need.
