That's a fair point. In which case I think Elias Lindholm might be the best option. He has some meat to his game. And he's, IMO more talented than PLD but brings some of the same characteristics.

Fully agreed there. I just don't see them trading him with the way they are playing and their division is super week this year.

I'd like to see Hunt with Panarin/Strome and see if he can add the element of that line that's been missing this season. Guy can grind it out as well as anyone and I was surprised to see he has some light mitts. Just a better fit than Kakko, who really shouldn't be on a line where he's the only one willing to dirty his hands
The thing with putting a grinder like Hunt or Goodrow or even Fast with Panarin and Strome is that it just excuses Panarin and Strome from doing why they should, which is go get pucks. All players have to do the dirty work. I’ll let Panarin off the hook for cheating up the ice on defense. But in the offensive zone everyone needs to be digging.

It didnt? This board talked all season about how if the cross ice passes werent getting through, the team didnt score. Its reached meme status at this point but the team needs to commit more to getting pucks at the net. For example, the Florida game. the 45 shots against isnt really that concerning to me but , 18 shots for is not nearly enough.
Yes. If they’re going to insist on putting a boardwork valet on Panarin’s right, Panarin had better shoot more.

I'm seeing a future where Schneider (for his crease clearing ability) and Jones (for his offensive ability) will both be needed on the Rangers defense. As soon as they are ripe, they should be in the lineup.

This leaves Lundkvist as the odd man out. Right now, in my mind, he is the bait to return a young center.

No slam on the player as I think he has been settling in, but on a need basis, the others just fit better.

Big time bait for a big time deal.
I know he’s Fox’s partner and a valuable player but I wouldn’t be hanging up on calls inquiring about Lindgren. Might be a good sell-high chance and hopefully we have better replacements. Doubt it ever happens, of course.

It should happen after next season when he's heading into the last year of his current contract.

Are you giving Lindgren a 5-6 year deal?

When you're up 4-0 and your goalie is being ran the way Shesty was... yes.. I fully expect a retaliation. not only a retaliation but an OVER THE TOP retaliation. I'll take a penalty or two. It was obvious what their gameplan was.

It's a big picture thing... You want to run our goalie?... you're going to pay a price. There's a price of admission... even Shesty needs to start whacking people too... It shouldn't have to be 'forced'.. I'm angry at home.. how are you not angry on the ice? or on the bench? They should be going Tom Wilson on anyone who overdoes it.

Still dumbfounded how the coaches didn't challenge Shesty getting pushed/cross checked in the head on the 1st goal allowed.

Oh, I just meant when his contract is up. Same year as PLD and Matthews. So if any or all of the 3 choose not to automatically extend and see what FA has to offer, either PLD or EL could be plausible signings.

Obviously, there is no telling now, which if any will choose to investigate free agency. But as of now, those are the 3 big names who I can think of at the moment that can be FAs after 2 more seasons.

Obviously that depends on the price. What range are we talking about here? >5 mil per? Trying to think of what players to compare him with. But no, I don't think he's a total "no trade". Especially with Jones and Robertson still in the system.

Miller however, I am becoming a bit impatient with. I don't think he's been very good. Was awful in preseason. And would say he at times showed flashes last season, but was overall mediocre. So I really don't feel comfortable depending on or planning for Miller to eventually take over that top LD spot which Lindgren now holds. Plus, while Miller might have size and athleticism, he doesn't really use either to its fullest. And while size is a good attribute, if he's not using it to the full extent, it doesn't matter so much that he has it. I think he often plays way softer than he should at least. We don't need him to be an offensive dynamo. But we could definitely utilize him and develop him more in a shut down mold, where I think he has the traits to thrive, if he'd use them properly.

That is something I think Trouba has done to some extent. We don't really need him to provide too much offense. While he's more used to playing offensive roles, I think he's better as the shut down partner. And I think we are seeing a bit of that this season where he's had some very good games. It's an adjustment for him, but I think that would be his best role. Just at RD.

And obviously, whether to trade Lindgren or not largely depends on the return. If you tell me we can get some high end center prospect in return, then yea, I am trading him in a split second. But I would honesty prefer seeing what the market for Miller looks like first. With his "pedigree" and perceived ceiling, the return on Miller might be better and considering his play, more worth moving.

Lundkvist has way better offensive potential than Jones so perhaps it would be wise to trade Jones instead.

Ah, so we got Reaves to scold people. That oughta work.

Strome's comments actually make me feel even worse about the situation.

Strome is everything I hate about modern NHLers from a mentality standpoint. He clearly grew up as one of the most talented players around, he clearly only focused on skills and not being a well rounded player, he was a high draft pick into the NHL, just out there to rack up points and clearly cares about his personal stats, always wants to make flashy skill plays and he's friendly with everyone on other teams.

I want players who aren't joking around with opponents during the game, don't care about their stats, will adjust their playing style when necessary, do whatever it takes to win guys. I don't want the guy who sees his goalie get bowled over multiple times in a game and then after reflecting on the teams' non response he says "yeah, that was good enough".

Strome is so clearly the kid who grew up knowing he was more skilled than everyone else, picked up bad habits because he just rested on those skills and other parts of his game are undeveloped and he's never built them up at the NHL level. To watch Strome backcheck you'd think he was completely dead tired every single time, then you realize he's just lazy.

No he doesn't.

He has higher goal scoring potential, but I'd put my money on Jones being more productive overall, both 5v5 and on the PP.
This one is a head scratcher as Lundkvist has played 10 or 11 games and still hasn’t shown he belongs in the NHL(yet) but Jones in his 10 games last season and training camp this season, looks like an NHLer RIGHT NOW!!!
If it walks like a duck and it quacks like a duck then it’s pretty much a duck. Right now Jones is the more ready player than Lundkvist, I just don’t know how they can forget his games last season but then look at Nils and keep him up here
