No one on this team thinks shot first and they havent for years. Mika/Panarin/Fox are easier to defend because the other team knows they will force a pass rather than try to get a shot through with bodies in front. Its incredibly frustrating and the Rangers ceiling is capped until it changes.

Panarin so easy to defend that he has the 5th most pts and 3rd most 5v5 pts the last two years I guess.

C'mon, I meant this year specifically, don't paint me as some Panarin hater. Obviously he's a top 5 ES scorer in the league when he's on, but right now it ain't working. And i think its a team wide problem, but Mika/Fox/Panarin are the big money guys, any change would need to be led by them.

You can see it with the young guys too. Kakko would rather circle behind the net than shoot off the rush, Chytil is constantly skating the puck into the corners and losing it and Lafreniere defers to his veteran linemates far too much. Its all correctable, but right now its a problem.

You said "No one on this team thinks shot first and they havent for years."

Panarin was by no means a shoot first player last year. He took 5.7 shots/60. That's well below league average for top six forwards. Didn't cause any issues then.

It didnt? This board talked all season about how if the cross ice passes werent getting through, the team didnt score. Its reached meme status at this point but the team needs to commit more to getting pucks at the net. For example, the Florida game. the 45 shots against isnt really that concerning to me but , 18 shots for is not nearly enough.

A Wahlstrom or Caufield would look mighty nice in this top 6 right now.

I am still pro Kravtsov but he won’t be scratching that itch either even if he decides to grace us with his presence.

Agreed on Kravtsov. Buch too is a good player and we miss him right now, but he wasnt a willing shooter either. Does some combo of Strome/Kravtsov/Gauthier pry Caufield from MON. Prob not but worth a call.

Ultimately it's about whether or not Zibanejad, Panarin and Strome prioritize this.
Let's see it happen saturday and sunday and Beyond.
Also would need to be able to string along some passes to just get into the zone in order to attack the net.

Kreider Zibs Blais
Panarin Strome Kakko
Laf Goodrow Chytil
Hunt Rooney Reaves

I guess Kakko is just gonna have to figure it out on that line?! I know options are limited with Chytil being out and Goodrow having to fill 3C.
At least he left Kreider on LW and Laf on the third line.
No Fil still I guess?

Yea and the board was wrong. Everyone hates pass first players and they constantly hear Joe Michelleti constantly yelling at players to just "take the shot." I think the player who scored 58 points in 42 games, 31 at 5v5, and outscored the opposition 33-22 while on the ice at 5v5 might have a better idea of what his strengths are than the board and the media. He's been a playmaker his whole career. He's had exactly one year with an above average shot rate which was his first year as a Ranger. I think he should keep doing what has made him successful his whole career and that includes passing up low percentage shots to try and create better chances even if they often amount to nothing.

He had a similar shot rate his first year with Columbus and his 1st 2 years with Chicago were not too far off. Of course he is a playmaker and he should be, that's his strength, but he's clearly not shooting as much as he probably should be right now.

Again, its not a Panarin specific problem, but considering his standing on the team (highest paid, easily our best skater, alternate captain) i think it falls on him and the other core guys to buy in. The rest of the squad will follow suit. and it includes the idea of making the smart/easy play when nothing else is there.

Going back to Monday because its fresh in my mind, but in the 3rd period there was a play where the Rangers had players in front, Panarin had the puck at the far wall, and Lindgren decides to flash toward the net on the near side. Panarin tries to hit him, Florida breaks it up, and Fox is the only man back for an odd man rush. Unacceptable play at that juncture of the game and it happens far too much

My thing with Matthew's is that he is a finesse player like Zibanejad. My thought process with PLD is that he brings something different to the table and creates match up problems. Also, he had chemistry with Panarin and creates space with his hybrid heavy/finesse game.

The Morissey stuff I threw out there was an alternative direction where we stop trying to get Panarin going, shed his 11.5, promote Lafreniere of he is ready, and put that 11.5 to better use by acquiring a LD that brought out the best in Trouba and solved the "Panarin/Strome" doing their own thing theory that has been floating around and frankly isn't out of the question.

Today's SCF winners have mostly been teams that 100% buy in. Carolina is a perfect example of a team on the cusp that has been over shadowed by a team that does it better. You can't have your highest paid guy and his tag-a-long chew toy dictating different rules while the other guys are grinding out their roles. Resentment is a killer to lockerrooms.

That's a fair point. In which case I think Elias Lindholm might be the best option. He has some meat to his game. And he's, IMO more talented than PLD but brings some of the same characteristics.

why is panarin strome kakko like the only line that keeps going unchanged. it's like there is something going on we dont know about. did panarin complain about playing with kakko again and GG just said FU deal with it? it makes no sense that trio is the one that has remained unchanged besides for kakko's injury

I think GG's and the coaching staffs logic is, if anyone is going to be a beneficiary of Bread magic let it be KK. It just sucks that the monkey on his back is so glaring at this point it has everyone questioning why won't they just try him with Zib and Kreider.
