I feel like this is getting more and more likely by the hour. He and the Rangers just fit well. Like it or not. Personally, I think he’s fine and if he takes a “discount” it’s fine. He has developed into a solid 2C. He’s durable. He fits in. He gets the job done.

I hope to everything that is holy that this is not true. Like it or not he is not fine. he doesnt get the job done, he isnt a center, he cant win faceoffs, makes alot of boneheaded plays, and doesnt play defense. Strome is literally none of the things you mentioned.

?? Kreider at $6.5M is a hometown discount and a good value.

It always amazes me how we all watch the same thing
I agree. Though I would add that it’s a “pre-pandemic” bargain. For the moment it’s probably going-rate though. Certainly don’t think the Kreider deal is bad in and of itself. Whether or not we can afford it, that’s another question. But the price is and was fine.

Unfortunately, I think that happens as well. And it's not that Strome hasn't been good with us, he has. I am just not sure he's the player we want when we are actually competing for a Cup as opposed to this year and last where we are still developing. Even if we stand a slight chance to make the playoffs.

One of the good things about R. Strome is that he can also play RW rather effectively. So if we did end up upgrading at 2C, Strome could easily slide into 2RW which with the loss of Kravtsov, might be a bit of a weakness for us in terms of depth.

Plus, I think upgrading at center and moving Strome to a wing position would ultimately improve the team more than keeping Strome at center and adding a wing. But I guess that's debatable.

Yea and i dont know you dont see a player who shows up for at most half of the games per season, who constantly pulls disappearing acts, and could never put it all together.

I will say this year, has been different so far. but again its only 7 games into the season.

Lol thats because he is a winger. If he is moved to rw and we find an actual 2c then im fine with keeping him. But strome is not a #2 center on a stanley cup team.

There's a ton of revisionist history about that deal...people conveniently forget the pandemic hadn't kicked in & we hadn't won the 1OA pick in the lottery yet. It was a very good deal for both parties at the time.

We were a rebuilding team that needed the capspace and the rumored deal of a 1st and robertson would have been really nice.

I love how people constantly forget about his entire career that has legit been.. show up for one game, disappear for 6, show up for 1, disappear for 8 and so on. How is that worth that contract?

Regardless this isnt about krieder, that deal is done and nothing we can do about it. Lets hope for this years version of krieder for the rest of his contract. This is about strome who is going to be looking for a raise on his current 5m per year contract. We should NOT be the team doling this out. Does he win faceoffs: no, can he play defense: no, does he play physical: no, does he take bad penalties and boneheaded plays alot: yes.

What in everyones mind makes them believe that strome is a 2c on a contending stanley cup team? Bc youre going to pay him like one.

Hindsight is 20/20.

I’m perfectly happy with the deal.

We don’t have cap issues.

We have our young talented players in kakko, laf, fox all looking for deals. These are not the players you bridge. They are the type you sign long term. Krieder makes this difficult. Plus we still need a 2c even if you keep that bum strome. Wheres the capspace?

That rumored deal became public knowledge over a year later. Whether that's legit or not, I'm unsure, but it's not like it was known about at the time. And with all due respect to Edge, nobody else but him is reporting that deal was actually on the table.....even it was, hindsight is 20/20 with the way Roberston blossomed.

Personally I would've have traded Kreider at the deadline, but you can't ignore the circumstances of the cap becoming stagnant & winning the lottery, and the way they impacted how we view his re-signing.

I mean its pretty simple, as a rebuilding team you trade off youre assets that you can use to acquire future assets in order rebuild your team. The rangers resigning a 29yo Krieder's "disappearing act" for 6 more years is completely ignoring those circumstances if you ask me.
But this is beating a dead horse bc the contract is signed already lol.

There are guys being paid a lot of money to figure that out. We are sitting on our couches for a reason.

I love how the whispers are coming out how we have to sign Strome now.

This is due to our failure to acquire a decent young top 6 center in our five years of rebuilding yet somehow people will say how far ahead of the game we are.

Kakko needs his new deal this summer and Laf is eligible to be re-signed anytime after July 1. What kind of deals are you giving them? They’re not going to just take an 8 year 4M AAV contract because they haven’t broken out yet. They haven’t earned anything above that. You virtually have to bridge them. They’re going to insist on shorter deals so that they can breakout and cash in. There’s zero incentive for them to take long term deals. And they haven’t proven enough of anything to give them the type of money that would entice them to. They both have 3.9M cap hits due to rookie signing bonuses. Their bridges will be about the same; possibly less. Only Fox will get a large contract.

I’m getting less and less convinced that Kakko and Laf are future stars. This is endlessly discouraging.

Winless with Strome. Nice seeing that line with so many giveaways. I'm not sure why Gallant broke up the only line that had some chemistry the past couple of games. At this point, keep the kids away from Mika and Panarin. It's not their job to wake them up. Let the veterans figure it out themselves for now. Kakko and Chytil have some chemistry plus they'll stick to the game plan. Put them back together and actually play them.
