Is this a riddle? How could that be the case? What if the Hayes return doesn't offer us any lottery tickets?

It just dawned on me that maybe Brooks is writing about us not trading Zucc so that someone puts up a 1st rounder. Gorton understands noone wants to offer a 1st and prospect, but if Brooksie wastes an entire column whining about Zucc being spared may make teams want him more.
Well yes. I would suggest you lower your expectations, though.Well, what if say Nashville offered: Tolvanen and a b-prospect
I would take it.
Just trying to show there are no lottery pick offers that we would take in a heartbeat, based on your comment.Well yes. I would suggest you lower your expectations, though.
I still see prospects as lottery tickets. I don't care if the return comes in the form of prospects, picks or young NHLers. The more opportunities, the better the odds you land some gems.Well, what if say Nashville offered: Tolvanen and a b-prospect

Is Tolvanen this years Sergachev?
If the prospect coming with the 2nd is a good one, I wouldn't be opposed to that for Zucc.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. If the return for Hayes doesn't meet our ask, I'd rather just keep him. A 2nd and a solid prospect isn't doing more for this organization than Kevin Hayes.
More importantly, this is dropping a hint to the league that there's no gun to our head on this one. Letting everybody know that you have to make a deal is how you end up getting a bunch of quantity back with little quality. *coughcoughMcDonagh*

That’s a home run. Skating looked fine in the WJC.Robertson + 2 for zucc
There's a difference between his opinion column on Sundays of musings where this could be the case if he got convinced and an entire normal column. It just dawned on me that maybe Brooks is writing about us not trading Zucc so that someone puts up a 1st rounder. For?I'd take Tolvanen or Fabbro straight up
Whatever it takes.For?
Keep Hayes, please. The way this team drafts in the first round -- not including Chytil, who has been and will be really good -- do we really value picks at all? This team sucks at drafting.Hayes will bring back a first. This is typical ‘GMs bargaining in the media’ speak.
We have to value picks or this rebuild is going to go terribly. That's why we need as many picks as possible.Keep Hayes, please. The way this team drafts in the first round -- not including Chytil, who has been and will be really good -- do we really value picks at all? This team sucks at drafting.
