Does anyone regret the Gaborik signing? Without him we're almost challenging Edmonton and Toronto (Boston) for 1OA in 2009-10. We probably don't get all the way there due to Hank, but wind up in the 3-5 range in the end. We pick Ryan Johansen or Erik Gudbranson.

Stone/Panarin being available as UFA is very akin to Gaborik/Hossa being available in 2009. Nobody regretted those signings for a second. Gaborik signed a 5-year deal at the equivalent of $10.6M AAV. Hossa signed a now illegal contract, but the first seven seasons were at the equivalent of $11.1M AAV.

Karlsson being available is not really like Chara being available because he is better than Chara was. Do you think Boston regretted that signing despite being in the middle of a rebuild at the time? Chara was given the equivalent of a $13.6M AAV contract at the time.

This isn't Drury or Redden. These guys aren't "very good" players on the wrong side of 30, these are elite players in the 27-29 range. This type of player had not been available as a UFA for a very long time before Tavares last summer, now we potentially have three in the same summer. If any of these guys are willing to sign with the Rangers at a reasonable rate we have to pull the trigger, esp if they are willing to leave some money on the table to come here. Trading for Ryan Callahan's contract to get a few minor assets and taking us out of that running is not a good idea.

We weren't in the middle of a rebuild when we signed Gaborik. Apples and Oranges. The Gaborik signing ending up working out well, but only because we traded him for Brassard, then traded Brassard for Zib. Are either Stone or Panarin signing 5 year deals? I doubt it.

So ask yourself, why would you want to be traded away from the team with the best record? Factor in the sunshine of Florida too.

Because they told him he's going to be the 13th forward and isn't going to play unless there are injuries.

Regardless I would not take him back prior to like next September at which point there is no reason for them to trade him anyway.

The NMC just means he can't be sent down. He has a 16 team list of teams he will accept a trade to, so if they want to trade him to anyone on his list, he has no choice.

I think we can get some nice returns. Had a very long chat this evening. Bobby Mac is pretty close to where it will land it appears. Hayes in the East, Zucc to the West it seems. Zucc will garner the most from a team with size. Retaining on Hayes will strengthen the return.
It also appears that the Rangers are saving money for something unconventional. Plus there is someone outside the usual suspects very likely to be dealt. I did not get this name - but have my suspicions. Gorton runs a very tight ship. For sure. Gotta respect that.

Outside of the usuals... Kreider, Hayes, Zuccarello, McQuaid, Namestnikov, they've all come up...

If theres someone outside of that, its either Andersson or Skjei

No, but Boston certainly was when they signed Chara.

Regaring Gaborik: That he scored 40 goals twice wasn't part of it working out? Also he had several good years left in him after the deal expired, a 7 year deal would not have been bad either even if he stayed in New York for the entire contract. Neither would it have been in the cases of Hossa and Chara.

Can the Rangers free up more SPC's?

The Rangers have a four group 6 free agents this summer.

Maybe Nieves has a future in the organization. The rest of them not so much.

Holland? Does a team want him for their AHL team? A conditional trade. Holland for a conditional pick which becomes nothing with the conditions not being met.

Chris Kreider scored his 20th goal on December 29. He has 4 goals in the last 19 games. Kreider looked like a cinch to hit 30 for the 1st time in his career 6 weeks ago.

I’m greedy. If the Rangers are helping TB with their cap situation, I want their 1st in 2020 in addition to the conditions dropped on this year’s 1st. They can keep their prospects.
Can confirm this is very greedy.

Can someone correct me if this is wrong, but I don’t think there’s a way to drop the conditions on that Tampa pick, I think they’ve have to send another pick with inverse conditions of the original pick. Something that would read like ‘if Tampa does not with the Stanley cup in 2019, the pick becomes a first rounder, if they do it becomes a 2nd round pick’

So he makes those 16 teams, playoff teams with cap/personnel issues. Done...

Limited NMC's aren't that hard to make full NTC's.

Lias for Pool Party would be very silly imo.

Seems like Panarin might be going to Florida. I'm still not sure how you go from wanting a major city to Sunshine, Florida, but it's sounding more likely. I wasn't necessarily in love with the idea of him coming here in terms of how it fits in the long-term plan but it was something to keep an eye on.

I'm pretty certain that you can make a follow-up trade to adjust the previous conditions of the pick provided that both teams agree to it. Or at least there's no hard rule saying you can't.

So Tampa trading their 2019 1st and 2020 2nd with Callahan is permitted provided that nobody can claim the rights to either pick aside from the Lightning and Rangers.
