  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. If we don't hit the lottery... would you use the 1st for a Marner package?

You cannot give that up for just Ottawa's pick. That is insane. That is something you trade for a franchise player. Hughes is good, but he isn't on a McDavid or similar level.
 
I originally hated the idea of signing Panarin. The more I think about it though, the more I’m warming up to it. As long as he comes in for under 10mil. Not sure how we could get the cap to work though. The defense would still be a hot mess too. But if we could unload Namestnikov’s contract could we fit Hayes and Panarin in the cap? Would definitely make for and interesting forward group for next season.

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Panarin Hayes Chytil
Vesey Howden Kravstov
Andersson Nieves Fast

I guess it’s not a seriously great forward group, but it’s decent.

Edit: completely forgot about Strome.

You can trade a package like that for Hughes. Not for a 20% chance of getting Hughes though.
 
Even if OTT ends up with the worst record at the end of the season, their pick statistically averages out to be the #3OA. Sure, they could pick anywhere from 1-4 in that scenario, but you need to acquire that pick as if it was the #3OA. In my mind, Kreider or Zibanejad alone are worth that pick. If it was a guaranteed #1OA, that changes things, but there's no way of knowing that before the TDL.

There are a few teams in that group that have been playing well lately. Chicago has won 5 in a row. St Louis has been on a tear and are 7-2-1 in their last 10. There was a point where it looked like the Blues might need to use their top-1o protection on the pick they sent in the ROR trade, but now it doesn't seem as likely.

I honestly wouldn't give any different odds to any team between 7 and 15 in the conference right now. That's pretty nuts for February 6, but also is good for us. Means fewer sellers.

Yes in my opinion I like Marner better than Breadman,Drasitil and Nylander. He is elite without a doubt and I would commit max money BUT he is a native of Toronto so at the end of the day he stays.

I’m not advocating we make that trade. I agree with SA16 that you don’t make that trade for a shot at Hughes.

I’m just saying that’s the type of package it would most likely take for the Avs to move it.

Kreider and Zibanejad together MIGHT but probably wouldn't get you 3rd overall in any draft.
