Canes wouldn’t trade Necas for Kreider straight up, I don’t know where this package came from

What exactly makes Necas so special? Gotta give to get and Kreider is on pace for 35 goals this season and he isn't a rental

If we were in the Canes situation and lacking a potential high end C just like the Canes would you trade Chytil+1st+Rykov for Kreider?
That’s roughly how Necas+1st+Fox is valued.
Necas is a top 5-10 prospect in the league

For some reason, I have it in my head that they wouldn't have had Rucinsky for the 2004-05 season if it happened, but then signed him for 05-06. Or maybe they didn't bring on Straka until then?

Not that it matters.
Yeah, they signed Straka and Rucinsky both on the day free agency opened after the lockout. I had it in my head that Rucinsky was going to re-sign, I thought Barnaby would too. Both were free agents after the 2003-04 season.

I think that return is steep.... I was more replying to the straight up trade remark

I think maybe Straka was still under contract for 04-05, but part of the settlement was that the lost season still counted as a year on the contract, so he became a UFA.

It makes sense that Rucinsky went to UFA right away in 04.

Really liked Barnaby and Simon on this team

Looks like McCcloud is picking up in Nashville where he left off with us... getting beat up by non-heavyweights.

McLeod has never been a true heavyweight. He’s a guy who is very willing and can hold his own. Maroon is no slouch.
Agree on all points, but unlike Maroon, McLeod is only two things- a hitter and a fighter. He should do better against players like Maroon who is big and tough but doesn't purely specialize in fighting.

Blues up, Sens up, Avs up, Kings up, Flyers up and Wild up so far.
Blues getting some consistency from Binnington that they couldn't count on with Allen. I don't know how much of it is Binnington though, and not just the team playing a safer game on D for a green goalie. In either event, Blues probably won't be in the bottom third by seasons end.

While I agre with this, he’s just never been that guy. This isn’t Reaves. He’s always been in the mood of a Chris Neil. A guy who plays hard and will fight almost anyone if needed.

Wasn’t Pietrangelo out as well for a while? That didn’t help.

Chris Neil would beat McLeod every time, and badly.
For example:

Smith has been fantastic with Shatty lately, he's not someone we should actively try to move while his value is in the toilet. Aside from the odd egregious mistake or dumb penalty (he's taking less this year than he ever did as a Ranger), he is usually among our better defencemen.

Smith is OK on the left side, but why hang on to him if he can be moved?

St Louis was seen as many as a sleeper as a cup champ before the season started.

They started out rough and the goalie wasn't good, but this shouldn't really be surprising to anyone, they're a good team.

Their metrics are wayyyyy up both offensively and defensively since Berube took over (They fed the Rangers their lunch on New Years Eve and Hank stone walled them.) It's only started to manifest itself in wins lately though.

I'm more surprised by Chicago turning a corner - that was a team that looked like they had nothing left to play for and lo and behold, they're right in the playoff race. The top heavy nature of the West has a lot to do with that, but it's also entirely possible (if not probable) that the Rangers finish behind everyone in the west aside from Anaheim who looks like they couldn't even hack it in the A right now.

But post deadline, that may be us too.

I don’t get why people aren’t more annoyed and up in arms about the logjam of vets we have at the blueline.

Like wow, Smith is doing a great job of supporting Shattenkirk. WTF it’s 2019 and we are rebuilding. If we signed Kovalchuk would it be a good idea to bring in Spezza to feed him the puck? Get rid of these clowns.

I think anyone is available. I don’t think anyone would argue that

That's not really how that works.

An more extreme example of the same logic would be like saying that Kurri should be a better goal scorer than Gretzky because Kurri was more of a pure shooter while Gretzky did other things.

Maroon is a good fighter who is also good at other aspects of the game so he doesn't have to do it all the time.
