Eh, I’m not sure he gets more than $3m-$3.25m. I’d give him a longer deal, like 4 years.

Who in the system, as sad as this is, plays a style remotely similar to Zadorov? Teams are going to be falling all over themselves in the offseason for Ferland. Teams are finding they need some bigger body players who can change momentum and keep opposing players heads up. I just see it as a need the Rangers have been unable to fill for years. Half a year of McQuaid isn’t doing it long term.

I like Zadorov too, but the problem is that Zadorov is a LHS/LD though. These guys are all over, rather try to get one cheaper to play that role. But if the cost would be 3m per and 4 years I am not totallt against it.

This is Friedman's edit

(EDIT: Several Avs fans have reached out to suggest this may be about Vladislav Namestnikov, not Hayes.)

What does that mean? Regular fans tweeted or emailed him. Sometimes he discusses how NHL executives read his 31 Thoughts column and they let him know that he is wrong or give him more information about something he wrote.

Namestnikov has one more season left on his contract at $4M AAV. $4M salary. He has 4 goals this season. What is that worth? Maybe he isn't the player(production wise) he was in TB, but he should have more than 4 goals in 44 games.

Sportsnet: - Sportsnet 650 ' Canucks listening to offers on Virtanen'

Really hope we're one of the teams that is in on him, we could use a RHS winger who's insanely fast & physical. What do you guys think would be a fair trade to bring Virtanen to NY?

Yeah me too.

All attitude this team has had since like we lost the homegrown guard of Dubi, Cally and co -- which weren't optimal, but still had some attitude -- has come from very over the hill mercenaries like Glass and McLeod.

I am not taking poison on that Virtanen is that guy. I was one of the first to really question that kid after seing him in the WJC. Totally without a more deep understanding of offensive hockey in today's game. People blamed it on his shoulder and on him losing his shot due to an injury, had nothing to do with that. He never had the puck and lost it when he did.

But with that said he is an imposing young hockey player. And if he can have the development Chris Kreider have had in terms of hockey sense, he will also become a player who is not that much more than a full notch behind Kreider on the ice. I.e. maybe a good 3rd lineer/ok 2nd lineer.

If we never look for it, we will never find someone who can help us in this regard.

Smith has plenty of value for the team when playing and has generally performed well. He just has a bad reputation because he takes a lot of dumb penalties, the coach has scratched him, he has a reasonably large contract, and because he apparently wasn’t in great shape last year. His results have been good throughout his Ranger career.

Namestikov strikes me as a guy who has more value to our team now than what we would get in a trade for him. His versatility and ability to shield the younger guys a bit is important, and will be more so after we trade another couple vets away.

Don't think his value changes much between now and the offseason to really make it worth it.

However, I can see him being used used as a sweetener as part of a bigger trade to help us get a higher value target which sounds good to me.

I'm a little worried we are going to be in the same situation we were in last year trying to trade mcdonagh with Karlsson hanging around. To me if I'm anyone outside of Colorado looking for a center I'm waiting on Duschene before I move for Hayes, to hear that Colorado might want Namestnicov and not Hayes is a little disappointing but not surprising as they arent a cup contender this year.

There is no way on earth Duchy goes back to Colorado. MacKinnon roasted him when he left, and Macs own play exploded once he was given control of the room.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on guys like Virtanen and Burakovsky for the right price. Now is the time to gamble on guys like that.

I could take or leave Zadorov. He has potential but I doubt Colorado is trying to sell him for cheap.

Vesey for Zadorov, who says no?

Source? Mackinnon has only said good things about Duchene

The Avs for sure. Imagine the last remaining piece of the Ryan O'Reilly deal being Jimmy Vesey. Ouch.
The last remaining pieces of that deal is Zadorov, Compher, Greer. Only Grigorenko is out of the organization.

I thought this was a bit odd...

On the differences between the NHL of 2012-13 and today’s NHL:
“It’s not as physical, that’s for damn sure. And everybody frowns upon a practice. It stuns me that you go for 40 minutes and people act like it’s a marathon. What do people want me to do? They hired me to coach here. I’m not acting like Joe Tough Guy, but I’m not going to let things go; that’s how you get better. And I believe that’s what this team at this time needs.

Philly, Jersey and LA are 3 of our first 4 opponents after the break. So i expect a couple more wins, but then the crop gets a bit tougher and i expect a bumpy road in February leading up to our sell-off.

Thats like me saying I don't want to trade Jesper Fast but if I had to it would be in a package for a top-4 defenseman.
Seems like an acceptable thing to say? I never said Zadorov would be the main piece in such a deal and neither would Fast. My point is I'd rather spend currency on a Hayes-caliber player than a Vesey-caliber player. Avs already have their version of Vesey in Kerfoot so it wouldn't make sense.

I haven't seen this but also don't follow the rangers media too closely. What's the perceived issue with a practice with pace?
I guess it's not the norm because coaches don't want to risk injury or tire players out AND want to focus their limited practice time more on systems and stuff like that. Plus it's also just not how the Rangers operated under AV so it's prob still surprising to the media covering the Rangers.
