You’re forgetting his insane and public contract demands. No one wanted to negotiate with that, and he was a high risk to bolt via UFA no matter who traded for him. He shot his value to try to force our hand, and it cost us in a contention year. Benedict Callahan. We could have moved Callahan elsewhere and kept our 1st and 2nd.
No. Not even on his best day he isn't slow. It isn't fair to the word slow. He is so far beyond slow that a proper word hasn't been created yet to describe his complete and utter lack of mobility and speed. Is Sustr slow?
Why was it so important to get rid of him?
Ok. We could have moved Callahan for assets, and then gone after a different player for our Run.And then made the team worse and likely not have made the SCF.
Yes or No?
Zib, Pionk and 2 2019 2nd's to Colorado for Makar and Ottawas Unprotected 1st? Where do I sign?
Zucc and Names to Dallas (some $ retained) for Jason Robertson and a 1st? Don't know enough about Robertson
McQuaid to Toronto for a 4th? A 3rd.
Hayes to the Jets for Roslovic and a 1st? Maybe

Answers next to your question.
I love Zib but unless I missed something, Makar is likely going to be a legit top-2 defensemen, top-4 at worst and Ottawa's pick is almost guaranteed to be a top 5 pick.
Why was it so important to get rid of him?
Because he wanted a huge contract that was always going to be a disaster?
I like the guy but he was the definition of overrating hometown players.
The alternative would have been to extend him or let him walk.
Both would have been bad.
I would say the other team rejects all four of those offers.
I completely agree. The only reason the Rangers made it to the finals was because of the passing of his mother. They were down 3-1 in the series to Pittsburgh. They looked dead to rights. They used that as a rally. They won games 5 and 7 on the road.Ok. We could have moved Callahan for assets, and then gone after a different player for our Run.
But, I hear where you're coming from though. MSL was huge for us. The emotional spike the team had once his mother passed away was evident.
Shocker. A player who wants to maximize his bottom line. You’re forgetting his insane and public contract demands. you know what else happened?I completely agree. The only reason the Rangers made it to the finals was because of the passing of his mother. They were down 3-1 in the series to Pittsburgh. They looked dead to rights. They used that as a rally. They won games 5 and 7 on the road.
But they could have found another deal for futures.....
Spooner to AHL
I thought I could cliffs notes it for yaDynamite response.
Aw....I was getting excited about searching the archives.

Callahan continued to play hard, despite the hoopla. The MSL trade was awful. They could have peddled Callahan and not given up a fortune for him.
Maybe, but a trip to the finals>>> late 1st or 2nd's.
Plus they didn't sign him to that ridiculous extension.
Might need a little sweetening for some of them, but I don't think any of them are all that far off. It was more of a would you if it was on the table.
I think what's more amazing than ever in today's NHL is the amount of players who absolutely fall off a cliff.
Take Spooner for example, yeah he was flawed. And everyone knew he was one of those guys who always teased his talent. But you could at least somewhat figure that he'd post his 35-40 points, slide around a little, drive you nuts with consistency, but chip in some points.
It's not like we're talking about a guy in his mid-30s whose best days are clearly behind him. You get that.
