The point of trading, or not trading, him is to make the team better now or in the future. If that means a 1st is coming back or JG thinks another 4 years will help the kids with leadership and scoring then that's the call you make. I don't have an issue with it either way, but I want something more than a 2nd and a middling prospect or I'd rather keep the guy who obviously has a burning passion to be here.

You are one of the few here who really understand this.

And there's a reason why he turned things around for the better after having a meeting with the management.

The danger in that is he's far less likely to re-sign here if he's traded. It's a scenario that doesn't happen all that often. All teams need vets. Even rebuilding ones.

And that's not saying that I think the Rangers SHOULD re-sign him - a lot of that would depend on term, $, and conditions (NMC, etc...).
Makes the no matter what even more attractive. We have vets. Staal is not going anywhere, and is good with the kids and in the room as far as everyone says. Kreids and Zibs are both young vets and good with the kids. Fast is a young vet if he sticks around. Shatts is a vet as well and most likely wont be traded (but that is another I think they should think about), and the number one vet reason we don't need him back??? The King. How many vets does your rebuild need?

at 2 or 3 years it's not about the money it's about blocking the kids. We are all about getting rid of Hayes for just this reason, no need to make an exception with Zucc.
Well as a pure winger Zucc isn't really blocking anyone.. I think Hayes it a bit different considering management is insisting on LA and Howden playing center. Thats not including Chytil who they may move back to center.

It's Chiarelli :laugh:

Jordan Eberle -> Ryan Strome
Taylor Hall -> Adam Larsson
16th OA -> Griffin freaking Reinhart
Ryan Strome -> Ryan Spooner
Ryan Spooner -> Waivers

And let's not forget this gem from his time in Boston

Tyler Seguin + Rich Peverley + Ryan Button -> Loui Eriksson + Joe Morrow + Reilly Smith + Matt Fraser
He traded a very early 2nd along with 16th as well which the Isles used to move up a few spots and select notable Ranger killer Beauvillier. Chia is literally responsible for the Isles success (Eberle, Beauvillier, Barzal) for Griffin Reinhart and a Ryan Spooner

I can't imagine Zucc taking another "team-friendly" deal with us, especially since we're not competing anymore. Trade him
I can, but that doesn't make not trading him any less enticing. It's time to move on from Zuccarello; He was a great Ranger but his value will continue to decline and now is the time to recoup as many assets as we can.

I wouldn't be surprised if Talbot vetoed a trade here. He's probably not going to build his FA value much behind this defense with minimal starts.

That being said, I could think of several other teams that would be worse options.

No way the Talbot trade had to do with us
It’s either Philly, NJ, or the Canes

Eh, for a guy who is playing for his NHL future between now and the end of the season, going to a team with a net that's prime for the taking seems like a wise move. Moreso than a place where he's the guaranteed back up.

Not to go back to Pulju, but just a note... even *if* the Rangers are not interested in him, they could still use him as a potential trade chip elsewhere (thinking how Hoffman stayed in division last off-season going from OTT > SJS > FLA).
