I think it’s Philly, i’d put money on it. Nevertheless we should be focusing more on what @RangerBoy said about us not being interested in Puljujarvi. What do you want from EDM for Zucc in a deal now? Their first is likely not being sent our way just for Zucc, but Yamamoto and a 2nd just doesnt do it for me idk.

The point of the trade is not to get a prospect who will be better than Zuccarello. Any propsect who is a near lock to become better than Zuccarello has been would like easily be a top 10 prospect in the league.

The point of trading, or not trading, him is to make the team better now or in the future. If that means a 1st is coming back or JG thinks another 4 years will help the kids with leadership and scoring then that's the call you make. I don't have an issue with it either way, but I want something more than a 2nd and a middling prospect or I'd rather keep the guy who obviously has a burning passion to be here.

I think you'll find that even among those who pay close attention to analytics, that they really aren't zealots about it.

The die by the sword mentality for most concepts in the sport are usually adopted by fans --- and usually those fans who are particularly drawn to social media.

Things rings so true that I think I have tinnitus

This screams Philly tbh.
A team that had interest before. Philly has been looking for a goalie all season but they are so far out it makes no sense now. The larger deal is to bring in Simmonds, who they have been linked to.

Edmonton played their hand too long. Could be Ottawa but why would they add? Their 1st is gone but the finish impacts all your picks and why pay that salary?

Playing for philly will destroy the last shred of confidence you have and truly tank your value going into free agency.

Florida needs a tweak to make a pretty good paper roster into a good team in reality. They don't need a sketchy goalie.

NJ wouldn't have been asking earlier. Schneider had a good rep until last year and kincaid carried them last year. They have bad skaters.

I like Carp because he folds obscure Seinfeld references into his analysis.

Hey Carp... any word on the Rangers being interested in Burakovsky or Puljujarvi?

@Dave G. Word I get is not Puljujarvi (you did that just so I'd have to try and spell it, didn't you?)

Im sorry, I'll take a 2nd and a middling prospect over an aging player who is not going to be worth his next contract and has already shown that he will fold under the slightest bit of adversity.

Thats NOT a guy you want around the kids.

Yes but I don't believe re-signing him is a realistic option so that would make your options:

A. Trade him for whatever you get that will most likely end up being nothing of value or a bottom line player but an outside chance you get lucky.
B. Let him leave in the offseason and get nothing (except cap space)

Why aren't they interested in Puljujarvi? Did Gorton's brother's agent's former coach not have any connection to him?

His team value is very high.

I don't care where he plays. But I think they'll only trade him for a price they feel is right, doubt a 2nd will do it.
OK, let me try to break this down for you:

is a 2nd round pick better then no pick? If yes, you trade zucc. He will not help us this year (he only hurts if he goes on a scoring tear because it takes time away from the kids and puts us further DOWN the draft board).

You trade Zucc, no matter what.

Thats NOT a guy you want around the kids.

9 years a Ranger and has a couple of bad weeks because he's sad about leaving the team he loves.

Exactly the guy you want on your team and around the kids.

Adversity? The guy couldn't speak after taking a puck to the face, brain contusion, and he's out there every night busting it with players twice his size and still blocking shots. You don't know what the word means.

Could be the Sens. They don't have much of a future goalie in their system and Anderson is getting old. Could see them trying to get Talbot on the cheap and hope he plays well there.

Carolina has had McElhinney playing well for them. Possibility there.

We've got to be in the discussion for Talbot, but would he include us in his NTC? I don't see it.

He recovered from an injury. I mean good for him, but hes not the first person to ever do that.

And this isn't just a few weeks, his play has been slipping for a while and he moped last year too. He's not what you want here.

Seriously if I were on the ice against him I'd just remind him that he's getting traded in a few weeks, he'd disappear for the rest of the game.

They'll get a decent return for him. I'd be surprised if it's anything less than a 2nd + prospect. I think he should get more than that.

As far as signing him, that's in the Ranger hands and, given the fact that the two sides haven't discussed anything, I'd agree with you.

I don't think B. is on the table.

No matter what. Sign him in the summer if you have a hard on for him, we need the extra picks and players.

The danger in that is he's far less likely to re-sign here if he's traded. It's a scenario that doesn't happen all that often. All teams need vets. Even rebuilding ones.

And that's not saying that I think the Rangers SHOULD re-sign him - a lot of that would depend on term, $, and conditions (NMC, etc...).

Great, good luck to him in his future endeavors then.

Let someone else make the mistake with his next contract. We've seen that movie here way too many times.

Grain of salt here. Carp isn't the most astute reporter, but if we give him the benefit of the doubt we also have to remember that some negotiating takes place through reporters.

So maybe the offer is a 3rd (or even a 2nd) and Puljujarvi. Rangers say they aren't into pool parties so maybe the pick gets bumped up to get it done.

I feeling good even if there aren't games being played and we just don't like him. We have been shoe horning Colorado and Edmonton for weeks as our only 2 trade partners. I hope we are playing bids off each other and just as likely to deal elsewhere.
