I feel Liljegren is slowly getting into that territory, Toronto is lacking talent on their right side aren’t they? Why isn’t he getting a better look?

Well, we can agree to disagree there. Liljegren is 19. Honka is 23. Toronto not throwing a 17th overall pick that was selected 18 months ago into the fire is not indicative of anything to me, other than they are patient enough to let him develop properly.
Liljegren was drafted 18 months ago. D-men take longer to develop. Hajek, drafted a year earlier is still in the AHL.

And... I should have looked down before responding because you summed it up perfectly.

I don’t disagree but we’re weak on LD and injury ridden so therefore Lindgren is getting a shot. You would think with a blue chip like Liljegren he would get similar treatment, considering he technically fell on draft day.

Edit: i am in no way degrading Liljegren, i think he’s going to be a good player, just trying to make a point about perceptions of prospects

They are two different types of players. Liljegren is expected to be a solid two way top-4 defenseman and if I remember correctly (big if these days), there were some question marks surrounding his defensive game. That is a much bigger role than being a stay at home #5/6 which is realistically what we can expect from Lindgren (nothing wrong with that).

Carp thinking that Zucc will bring back a 2nd and a prospect.

If that's the case, I'm all for re-signing him. The likelihood that 2nd, or that prospect, will be better than Zuccarello is pretty remote and, despite a "oh woe is me" slump, he's a hard worker and an excellent teammate by most accounts and a pretty productive player.

I'm not against trading the guy, but if that's all that we get then I question it's merit.

Rangers aren't trading for a goalie with Georgiev here and Shesty coming. I'd be really, really surprised. Cam is a UFA this summer. Makes no sense for the Rangers.

If it betters the return for Zucc, Cam has negative value btw, and gives them more wiggle room under the cap, why not? He is UFA - like you say - anyways next season.

I'll play along. Prior to McQuaids arrival, when was the last time this team played for each other, or stood up for each other?

I think this has far less to do with McQuaid then with Quinn. The Rangers have brought in numerous players over the years just as tough, if not tougher then him and nothing ever changed. So I wouldn't place this change on him.

Smith got paid and checked out. He got in shape, but it hasn't translated. They should Redden him for the duration of the deal.

Staal? Nobody is giving anything of value, even retained, for Marc Staal.

I agree. I also don't think Smith was ever that good. He played possibly the best hockey of his career after the trade to the Rangers and then was rewarded with a huge contract for only a few months of play. Prior to the trade he was always mostly a 3rd pairing guy from what I gather.

There is logic there...i mean, Taylor Hall was traded for Adam Larsson.

I hope this is sarcastic. Pointing at some of the worst trades in recent decades is a bad barometer for expectations. Sure, crazy things happen, but we shouldn't expect them to happen. Staal might have some low round pick value with retention of salary. Smith, IMHO, will only be traded in a trade like the Strome for Spooner one. Two bad/struggling players who are swapped with similar shitty cap hits. I wouldn't be opposed to this if it's available since it worked out nicely with Strome thus far.

If it's only for cap purposes who cares. Cam is a UFA after this year I believe. Allow Georgiev to finish in the AHL where he has been all year, split Cam and Hank and juice the return for Zucc.

How does acquiring Zooks give them wiggle room? They're taking on more salary than they're giving up.

If we're talking Cam + 1st for Zuccarello, sure. But, given Edmonton's cap situation, I think we'd have to eat another contract.

Talbot makes 4.2m this year, Zucc 4.5 Throwing in Talbot makes it -300k vs 4.5m

Trade him and re-sign him. A 2nd rounder is still a valuable addition. As would be a good prospect in the Lindgren/Rykov ilk

They waived Spooner, too, which I forgot so that helps that situation.

I'd want at least a Grabner type return for Zuccarello - ie... the "prospect" has to be Rykov level prospect and not some reclamation project or whatever.

Cam, 2nd, Rykov level guy and I'm on board.

What prospect? That makes a difference. And a 2nd doesn't necessarily mean that we are selecting someone with that pick. It could be used as trade capital to move up in the first round, the way we did last year with Miller. The more assets you have, the more options you have.

Odds are good that we'll be bad again next year, and quite possibly the year after as well. How many good years does Zucc have left? How many of those do we want to waste on a bad team?
