There's additional pressure on them to bring in secondary offense after that ridiculous rant by Jim Lites. Can't say things like that and then not give Benn and Seguin help.

Meloche is a defensive minded RHD, 6’3. 14 points in 34 AHL games. Only 21, drafted 40th in 2015. Avs are pretty high on him but they have RHD in Barrie, Johnson, Makar, and Timmins. Meloche feels like the odd man out

I’m not retaining Shatty 50% for 2 more years after this, and if I am, I’m not trading him along with Hayes for that offer. Hayes alone should fetch around that
 
And along with my Meloche speculation, it pretty much has to be either Kerfoot or Compher they’re scouting, no one else on the Avs roster makes sense. Kerfoot is pretty much Spooner, just an offensive C capable of probably ~45 points yearly. Compher would be interesting though. 23 y/o RHC/RW with 20 in 35. Good all around game and also should be a consistent 40 point middle 6er for a while

So here’s my final guess with everything going around

Signed Hayes+small piece for Avs 1st+Meloche+Compher

Boutta go see if Avs fans like it.
I don’t love it but I wanna keep it realistic

I'm sure they'd like it. Favors them quite a bit, TBH. I'd want a better return than that for a signed Hayes.
 
Doesn't really matter what fans think a fair deal is going to be. What's going to happen is what's going to happen. Best just to brace for it and get ready to adjust to what the new team will be.

I can certainly appreciate the approach. :laugh:

Still, I think Jost and a pick is a good base for an unsigned Hayes. I would imagine the Rangers ask for a 1st, the Avs offer a 2nd, and they negotiate from there. If Hayes is going to Colorado with a deal in place, then I think they need to do better than Jost. Not Makar or the Ottawa pick obviously, but I would push hard for Kaut in that case.

Hayes as a rental should get a 1st and a prospect. As a signed asset he should get an additional prospect, IMO. Even if it means dropping the 1st to a 2nd in that case.

Hayes (signed) and Shattenkirk (50% retained) for Barrie, Jost, Bowers, Avs 2019 #1, conditional 2020 #2 if Avs make it to the finals this year or next (2020 3rd if not).

Barrie to the Leafs for their #1 and Grundstrom.

Zucc to Dallas for their #1 and Albin Eriksson.

Lightning win the cup, Rangers bottom out and win the lottery. Get Hughes along with with 4 additional 1st round picks.

Annnnnnnd back to reality.

Talbot and a 1st to us for Smith
Hank agrees to waive his NTC and gets traded to Carolina for a 1st+other picks/prospects for a playoff push
Sign Talbot to a 3.3m deal, he gets us back into Hughes territory this season and top-3 pick range next season. Splits time with Shesty in 20-21. Shesty takes over in 21-22 and we win the cup with that year him, Hughes and whoever we take top 3 next season.
Easy-peasy......:laugh:
 
I'm watching the ECHL All-Star game right now.

-13 wind chill is horrid timing to go a week without Rangers hockey.

How many days until Kaut and BU's Shane Bowers are dealt from Colorado in a Hayes deal?

Kaut is by far the most attractive prospect to me in the Avs system, him and Chytil would be dynamite for a decade for us. However I definitely see us going for something like Col 1st + Jost + Meloche + Conditional Pick in 2020.

I dont want to bank on making a trade after making a trade to hopefully get what I am after.

Waste of time, energy and effort
