They'd find a way if there was any sort of breaking trade. Their livelihood depends on it.
Meh, half of them would find out from a source 2 minutes before the team announces it and the other half would just retweet the team's tweet.

Carp would do the latter roughly 6 hours after it was first posted and act like he knew.

The people in Buffalo are amazing. The fans are phenomenal honestly for all the shit talking many people do. They have a very small market and their fans are rabidly loyal.

The downtown is poor but the suburbs aren't bad and they have some pretty good restaurants/sports bars/etc.

I went to school up there and I can understand some people not wanting to be up there but it's not as bad as many people claim.

Robin Lehner actually recently said the fans are part of the problem for the Sabres in that they're so loyal to the team they just hate all the players for not magically making the team as successful as the fans want it to be

Kravtsov is flying to NYC right now

I think he's a big key to how successful the Rangers will be this season.

I'm gonna be all over the place in this post but it points to the importance of Kravstov's minutes.

Hoping to see Chytil with Goodrow and Kreider. I think that would be a super solid 2B line and one that is suited better for Chytil's game. I think he can be molded into a shutdown role with the two vets. He needs to develop that part of his game as well. A lot of size, speed and tenacity on the forecheck for that line.

That leaves Strome with Panarin and Kravstov/Kakko. I mean thats dripping with skill anyway you want to roll it, but I'd rather go with Kakko there because he will provide some needed defense on that line (crazy if you heard that 3-4 years ago). I know some thought the chemistry wasn't there with that trio but I'd give it another look.

That gives Kravy top line minutes taking Buch's spot with Laf and Zib. Thats a very dangerous line, but also giving Kravstov some big responsibility defensively. Can he handle it?

That's just one scenario though. We could see Gallant stick with the kid line that was very good too. He also may want to keep Chytil in the middle to see how he develops and Goodrow on the wing.

Laf-Chytil-Kakko

Then you are looking at some other combinations like this

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kravstov
Panarin-Strome-Goodrow
Laf-Chytil-Kakko

Or switch Kakko and Kravy

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Goodrow
Laf-Chytil-Kravstov

So anyway you cut it, Kravstov will be taking on a "real" role with this team with the departure of Buch

I used to live in Syracuse, which is pretty much Buffalo's disappointing younger sibling, so I feel that.
I went to college up there too (Oswego) and virtually all of my buddies from college live in 3 places: Rochester, Syracuse or Buffalo.

I think the down talking of these cities gets overblown by those of us who live in more 'exciting' areas. The cities themselves aren't particularly great and have issues with crime and poverty but seems like if you live in the suburbs you can live in nice areas, with good schools and have huge houses for very affordable cost of living. I have friends living in what are basically mini mansions on good property up there in their area's "rich" neighborhoods on an 80k household income or something like that.

One of them just bought a house in a Buffalo suburb last summer the same time I was buying my house on Long Island so we were always talking about it. His house is 4k sq foot house all brand new everything inside in a really nice neighborhood and has an insane backyard set up with pool, outdoor bars, fire pit areas, sauna, hot tub - just like a sick backyard - he paid like 250k for it and the taxes are like 3k a year. My house is half the size of his, cost 2.5x more, on only 1/4 acre with a plain yard and my taxes are almost 16k a year. I'm happy with my situation, my house is nice but I totally can get the merit of living in an area like that to stretch your money and have a good quality of life, especially when friends and family are there. Personally after 4 years of school in those winters I didn't want to live there going forward, but those area are better than they get credit for.

I'll throw Utica into the conversation as possibly the only town in the United States you can find that both has a professional hockey team, and also has a plethora of 4 wheelers driving on main street downtown.

I kind of love that.

Oh but on the topic of suburbs and CNY, the white flight and property value segregation is no bueno. I've never seen such a stratified public school system between the inner city schools like Henninger that are gang recruitment zones and borderline liberal arts campuses like Fayetteville-Manlius.

Friedman and Seravalli have been waiting for an Eichel trade since last year. They will absolutely get out in front of anything.

It's been downhill ever since they got electricity

I watched a documentary on how wonderful the city planning and grounds were designed in the late 1800's. Olmstead and Vaux who also designed Prospect and Central Park in NYC designed what is thought of as one of the greatest in the world. So you are right on the money there.

Im not sure when you went, but it’s pretty bad IMO. Especially in the winter during the season.

Gray skies, high crime, freezing temp, and that dirty snow that doesn’t want to melt. I’m sure there are some pluses, but if I had a limited NTC then Buffalo would be near the top of my list.

I was there in December 2017.

This never made sense to me. UB, when my brother went about 6 years before me, decided to start up a D1 football team in place of a hockey team. Made no sense.
Yeah I want to see more ncaa teams. I think both Alaska programs shut down recently along with Alabama and Arizona which is too bad.

I'll say this, if I was a free agent looking at a short term deal, making like $1.5m per season, Buffalo wouldn't be THE worst destination for me because my dollars would go so far and it would set me up for a long time. Counter to that, if I was that same free agent and a team like Toronto or NYR offered me the same contract I would be less interested. Those lower tier guys, after agents, taxes, etc aren't making THAT much for THAT long.

The NHL foresaw this issue. It is why the Coyotes are in the Central beginning this season. They'll be in Houston for the beginning of the 22-23 season. It's a huge market that would be perfect for the league to generate the revenue lost. They're going in at a perfect time. The Rockets are rebuilding, the Texans are a shitshow, and the Astros may be good, but it is not during the same season as hockey. If the Coyotes can actually be decent this season and set themselves up to be good in 22-23, it could be a big haul for the league's revenue.
