What to do with Kreider?

That is a lot of proven talent for a lottery ticket.

While I don't think we get Newhook for Kreider (unless it was a sign and trade), adding in a potential starting goaltender makes it lopsided in Colorado's favor.

Well if Kreider for Newhook isn't realistic cause we are getting too much, then I don't know that the rebuttal to Kreider and Georgiev for Newhook can be that Colorado is getting too much.

I like Lemieux I do but he’s going to be 24 soon and hardly is showing he can be a 20 goal 40 pt guy.
He was on pace for 30 points this year, and that is with some scratches and playing some time on the 4th line. This was going to be his first full year in the league where he was used as anything but a spare part. If and when Kreider gets traded, he becomes the big body in front of the net. I see no reason as to why he should already be pigeonholed as reaching his potential.

once he scored 9 goals in 44 games with a ridiculous shooting percentage.

he’s more Brandon Prust to me who while valuable in his prime was never a guy you wanted in your top 9 let alone top 6.

I think Howden has more upside as a left winger than Lemieux does frankly.

So I’m really just unimpressed by some of these guys like Frederic. I think we’ve got that guy in Lemieux already. I think they fill the same role

Lemieux looks like a 30-ish point player.

There is room for those kind of guys in a top 9. But I agree that Frederic looks more like a 4th liner. I think we could use someone like him, but he doesn't move the needle for me as a primary piece.

The problem with Boston is they don't really have a primary piece that I like outside of Studnika, and I doubt hes going anywhere.

Why do the avs suddenly want or need Georgiev? A 2 week dip in play doesn't lead to a goalie trade. They have Grubauer who is playing well and more proven. Francouz is essentially the same level of promise vs proven as Georgiev.

It feels like puzzle pieces are being forced together to reach the purchase price. I can see Colorado loading up on playoff pieces like Fast, maybe Smith as a depth piece. But Newhook isn't going in a rental no matter how many value adds we tack on.

Where do we even win this trade? Because Byram will pan out and be our best D for a decade?

Terrifying proposition imo.

well yeah that would be the logic behind the move...you would be assuming that Byram is the real deal and would be our #1 LD, while still having a really good right side with Trouba, Fox, Lundkvist.

but its a big risk

Screw the Avs. Newhook or take a hike.

I'll be charitable and drop my demand for a prospect and a first to a prospect and a second if they make it Newhook, but it's got to be him.

Or I'll deal Kreider to their main competitor.

The Avs will choose to "take a hike". They'll then pivot to any number of other potential rental forwards like Pageau, Toffoli, Granlund or Zucker

Will you're demands be as unrealistic when you deal with their "competitors"? If so, you'll end up with CK on your roster after the trade deadline.

I maintain that Fredric, Beecher and a 1st for Kreider.

Boston is the team that is a player away and their biggest issue by far is secondary scoring. Kreider fits their need to a tee. Plus, I am sure that when it comes to resigning, he would be open to Boston.

What is mind boggling is how our fan base loves to whip on Skjei who plays against other top lines all the time. Yet, Buchnevich who sits there each game with that stupid, bewildered, look on his face after yet another screw up, continues to get a pass every game from our fan base. He reminds me of Zherdev with half the talent and that is not a good player.
Not from me. I'm not a Buch fan at all. Doesn't strike me at the kind of player that you win with.

More Importantly Gerard Gallant and Peter Laviolette are available. The best move we could make to take this team to the next level is firing Quinn and hiring one of these guys. Two of the absolute best in the business avail just sitting there.

I think that Byram will be very good and will give Colorado a top pairing to dream of when paired with Makar. BUT, a) Colorado is not trading him b) you do not trade away a 23 year old defenseman who is trending to 60 points NOW.

What would Edmonton, who is 2nd in the Pacific and 2 points behind Calgary, give for Buchnevich @ half his cap hit? I could see them squeezing him in this season and then giving him a nice long-term deal to play with McDavid or Draisatl. Nurse is their only main RFA in the off-season. Holland is on record saying he doesn't love rentals and the price. Buch being a RFA can help them this year and moving forward so if he moves a 1st +, it's a long term addition.

now With Beecher you’re on to something. That’s a guy along with a first I may be more inclined to open up to moving Kreider. You’ll never get Frederic and Beecher and a first. But I think Beecher and a first I’d have to seriously consider it if I were resigned to moving Kreider

Gallant would be an absolute killer hire. He's feisty like Quinn, but he actually knows wtf he's doing sometimes

I don't see us making a coaching change mid-season, maybe during the offseason. I know fans hate him cause he doesn't play their favorite guys more (joking) but honestly has there been anything from the rangers that even hints at the suggestion that the rangers aren't happy with david quinn?

Nothing official and I would agree, that there is nothing. Within the context of the rebuild the FO is probably very happy actually. Chytil seems to have implemented himself nicely under Quinn, so did Howden and Fox. Although I'll reserve the opinion that's it's the players own doing and in Chytil's case, the magic of coach garlic if any coach.
So prospect are coming along nicely under Quinn. Except the Lias debacle, but whatever the truth behind that may be, it can't be pinned on Quinn alone and couldn't sour the other accomplishments.

I'd be happy with Quinn being a transitional coach, unless in like 2-3 years the FO unleashes the Quinn and gives him more range/the roster will be better too obv.
I want to insinuate that the rebuild policy holds some weight on the season goals.

Another really good coach sacrificed because of flawed rosters and lofty expectations. There is no flexibility in season to reshape rosters, so changing the coach is the only realistic shake up.

Just more seismic activity that could be the precursor to major roster changes in the summer.

If we can resist temptations to sign Kreider and Fast, we can open some cap. If we acquire those assets, we can mirror the Trouba trade. Cheaper RFAs like Buch, late 1sts, surplus prospects. We have the cheap assets that retooling teams will have to take.

Not the slightest peep.
You also don't fire guys 1.5 years into their 5 year deal without screaming problems for a huge variety of reasons.

Gallant would be great and is kind of a very rich man's Quinn, and he's who I would target when they move on from Quinn after his 3rd or 4th year.

Also, Panarin is having the best year of his career under Quinn. Mika's best 2 years have been under Quinn. ADA's best year to date is under Quinn. We can argue about how much credit Quinn deserves with regard to these players. It's possible that they are just following a natural progression and would have done the same or better under another coach. But he isn't holding them back. He's trying to get guys to play harder and be more defensively responsible, but that hasn't taken away from their creativity or ability to generate offense. We're a rebuilding team and have the 7th most goals per game in the league. We also have one of the highest, if not the highest, scoring defenses in the league.

It remains to be seen if Quinn and company can get this team to limit chances against more consistently. That will ultimately be the measure of his tenure as coach.
