A first and Jost is not fair. Jost sucks. That first would be late and if they hit on it, that player is 4 years away from playing here. Rangers should not deal Kreider. They should deal Buchnevich. He blows. Only way I see them dealing Kreider is if they have a behind the scene agreement that he will resign in the off-season.

No rumors of a contract .... he’s gone and it’s the right move .. 7x7 is what he will get at min and that’s going to be a bad contract

Jost is 21... if you want Kaut or Bowers ok but Jost will develop

Is a 1st , Heinenen , Frederic a actual possibility for Kreider

Kinda like The Nash deal . Heinenen is kinda the Spooner , not cheap

That's how they'll call Heinen once he decides to join a (particular) beer league.

What is mind boggling is how our fan base loves to whip on Skjei who plays against other top lines all the time. Yet, Buchnevich who sits there each game with that stupid, bewildered, look on his face after yet another screw up, continues to get a pass every game from our fan base. He reminds me of Zherdev with half the talent and that is not a good player.

This fan base craps on Buchnevich too.

But Buchnevich’s “screw ups” are not finishing enough while getting himself in the right spots to score. It doesn’t hurt the team the same way Skjei’s braindead plays do. Which occur regardless of who is on the ice.

Didn’t realize Newhook was only 5’9”. No concerns there? Seems small.

Listings always confuses me. Newhook isn't that small, and he got that wide powerful lower body. Maybe its a correct listing that he is 5'9, but I don't think size is an issue with him.

The way Kreider is playing right now coupled with Colorado’s recent woes in a very competitive West....others are right Kaut nor Jost would be enough as the centerpiece.

It would have to start with Newhook.

Pay up or settle for a lesser player on the market.

Do people honestly think the Rangers are getting Newhook for 2 months of Kreider?

The Avs are going to have about 25 mil in cap space next year with only Zadorov and Burakovsky due significant raises. They can afford to re-sign him.

And that's a scenario where the Rangers, perhaps would get a conditional pick involved. Gorton could very conceivably state that his preference is to re-sign Kreider and he hopes to be able to do so in the off-season. Therefore if Colorado re-signs him it would be a detriment to his construction of his team. In that case, he would requie another conditional pick be involved.

I could see Jost + COL 1st + Conditional pick (if he re-signs or Colorado reaches the SC Final).

But there isn't any assurance they'll be able to sign him. For all we know Kreider wants nothing to do with living in Colorado.

I’ve felt all along the best strategy is to identify the players who can be part of the core of a serious playoff team. The Rangers have between 8 and 10 players I consider in this group. That’s about 4-5 short. So what does this mean?

1. Trading Georgiev for a quality player adds one. 2. Identifying players who are not part of the future core and monetizing them for assets that can be part of that core. Skeji and Buchnevich are clearly candidates for this designation. So are guys like McKegg and Smith but they hold little value. 3, Determine whether assets like Fast and Kreider (can be resigned) and if they can’t, they will have to be monetized. The sad part of this is that moving these guys removes core players that will weaken the team. Best hope is that if Kreider is moved, he can return a future core player. Step 2 comes before step 3 — set the standard for the future roster and then work to,keep, the pieces that make sense. 4. Strome is an RFA, the Rangers sign him for a longer term or force him into a one year contract and see if he continues his current performance. 5. Find one or two card carrying mature NHL players who can fill roles on the bottom part of the roster.
I'm not too concerned about shedding core pieces right now because I think there is a good chance core players will be available this summer.

There are a bunch of very good teams with high aspirations, and most are underachieving. Calgary lost the momentum from the coaching change. Toronto has been winning but I'm not so sure they can win in a shootout when the stretch run begins, and it's very unlikely in the playoffs. Dallas is very streaky. The panthers are not having the season they envisioned. Nashville is going through a nightmare and they probably have answered the questions about a retool. The oilers are a bad run away from more disappointment.

All ripe for some form of change and all up against the cap. Accumulate assets. Hang on to the RFAs until summer. Don't identify specific needs in trades. If a left wing is the best return, fine. But don't pass on a great right d chip because that is our strength today.

I want to be in position if Gaudeau, Nylander, Sergrachev, etc become available. Have the cheap, controllable assets on hand. Swap quantity for quality. We don't have to have the future roster locked down by the trade deadline.
