I don’t know anything about this Kaut person but that’s a bust-sounding name I’ve ever heard one.
RW, was a riser leading up to the 2018 draft. 16th overall to the Avs. Friedman liked him a lot. Playmaker kind of player. Could easily see him ending up with a Buchnevich-like early career.

Which to me doesn’t do much for us. Need to diversify the player types in the lineup. Which is what makes trading Kreider so difficult

Once again, I think if Kreider agrees to a 4-5 year deal, he stays. This mindset, of trading away anything over 27/28, is not sustainable. Where does it end? Why keep Mika? He's going to be 29 as a UFA, trade him for futures now? What's the point of holding on to him? Maybe it's a perspective thing as I think this team will be competing as early as next year... ( but more seriously/likely in 2021 )

Kreider is a great support player. A strong influence off the ice. He's tight with Mika. He drives play and it doesn't always show up on the stat sheet. He can go beast mode at any moment and could carry us in the playoffs. 5 years/$33-35M. Yes, he's streaky but he's worth that. He's not being paid to be 'the man'.

Team is taking shape... A lot of pieces are in place.. The development of Kakko, Kravtsov and Chytil brings us to an elite level offensively IMO. We do not need more offensive assets. We need structure and stabilizing forces. Another Fast and/or Boyle type, even better if he's in a Prust mold. We dont need to give up major assets to acquire that.

We have a good combo of vets and kids IF Kreider, Strome and Fast are signed. Move Buch. Move Georgie. Possibly move Skjei. Keep our draft picks and continue to add and develop.

Kreider and MacKinnon on the same line would be interesting to watch.

Kreider MacKinnon Ratanen... that's pretty scary.

BUT that's what it'd take for me to move Kreider... a player like Newhook... Not Jost. Not Frederic.

I doubt they can get that. 1st w Jost is fair imo

I’ve felt all along the best strategy is to identify the players who can be part of the core of a serious playoff team. The Rangers have between 8 and 10 players I consider in this group. That’s about 4-5 short. So what does this mean?

1. Trading Georgiev for a quality player adds one. 2. Identifying players who are not part of the future core and monetizing them for assets that can be part of that core. Skeji and Buchnevich are clearly candidates for this designation. So are guys like McKegg and Smith but they hold little value. 3, Determine whether assets like Fast and Kreider (can be resigned) and if they can’t, they will have to be monetized. The sad part of this is that moving these guys removes core players that will weaken the team. Best hope is that if Kreider is moved, he can return a future core player. Step 2 comes before step 3 — set the standard for the future roster and then work to,keep, the pieces that make sense. 4. Strome is an RFA, the Rangers sign him for a longer term or force him into a one year contract and see if he continues his current performance. 5. Find one or two card carrying mature NHL players who can fill roles on the bottom part of the roster.

Colorado’s season is starting to slip away. If they want Kreider they can pay. Hopefully for us it’s becoming less of a want and more of a need. They’ve been losing a lot lately.

Do Rangers really want to have two older LW locked up for 18-19 million for 6-7 years? No. You trade Kreider for a good prize and use the assets for another position (LD or C). With other trade possibilities in Georgiev, Strome, Andersson and DeAngelo they should be able to get a younger LW as well.

It doesn't inconvenience the Rangers one bit to retain half on Kreider, so I see no real reason why they wouldn't.

It'd be quite silly to take potential partners out of the equation for no good reason.

Retention on expiring contracts has no real impact on trade value IMO. It just serves to get the contract to fit within the team's cap.

It's a different story when a contract has term left, like Yandle.

A first and Jost is not fair. Jost sucks. That first would be late and if they hit on it, that player is 4 years away from playing here. Rangers should not deal Kreider. They should deal Buchnevich. He blows. Only way I see them dealing Kreider is if they have a behind the scene agreement that he will resign in the off-season.
