For me the premium is on the Edmonton pick. Potential lottery picks dont come easy. I know by trading with them it makes it less likely to be a lottery pick but I think its worth the risk.

Personally I also see Buch as a declining asset so I am happy to use him to grease the wheels a bit.

For Edmonton, I think the obvious value is they get not one, but two upgrades at wing. One of which is controlled past the season so its not quite an all or nothing move for them.

I’m not sure Edmonton moves a lottery pick unless they are going all-in for the playoffs. I don’t think Zucc (an UFA) and Buch are what would spring to mind for them.

But assuming they did, that pick might not be a lottery pick anymore.

So at that rate, I’d rather trade Zucc for a late first and (if need be) move the other assets separately.

I certainly wouldn’t be including Tampa’s pick either.

I don't see any reason to send that Tampa pick their way if we're eating contracts.

I know everyone assumes the Oilers pick will be a lottery pick, but say they make the playoffs after that deal; which certainly isn't that far fetched with improved secondary scoring and a bunch of teams ahead of them on major slides. What does the deal look like then? The 16th pick, a struggling prospect, and a couple cap dumps. The 16th pick is probably on the sweeter side for a Zucc return, but the gap between Buch and Puljujarvi is pretty big right now even with Buch struggling. Then on top of that we give up a possible 1st round pick just to eat contracts? Doesn't really work.

Take out our Pick, and take back Spooner from them as the salary, then flip Spooner to the 'canes as an offensive reclamation project for whatever mid-level pick they are willing to offer.

Rangers get:
Edmonton 1st
Puljujarvi
Spooner

Edmonton gets:
Zucc
Buchnevich

Then Spooner to Carolina for like a 4th.

Fair enough. Maybe a bit too much, I am personally willing to give up a bit more to try and get another pick in the lottery. Really not sold that Zucc returns a late first at this point alone but I hope I am wrong here.

When I put in the salary coming back from them I am not talking about eating a bad contract. Its whatever needs to be done to make the trade work within reason of their cap. Spooner at 50%, Kassian, etc.

I do think the Tampa pick is our sneaky asset to use to close out a deal which likely ends up being a pick in the 55-60 range. Definitely a risk though.

I don’t know if I see the Rangers using it as a throw-in unless they need to for either a high pick or a very good young player.

I wouldn't put it past Dubas to trade Nylander. I just don't see "his word" being more important than a cup. I wouldn't bet my house on a trade happening but I just don't see it being unrealistic.

Yeah, they can fit the big 4's salaries next season but how do they improve their defense? Leaf nation will build a statue for Dubas if they trade Nylander for a solid d man. They are so pissed at Nylander.

Brickley had just played three seasons with Michael Paliotta with U of Vermont right before we signed the latter to an AHL contract. I’m sure we scouted him. Both are pending UFAs and we probably had made our mind up about Schneider. Brickley a couple years younger.
Also, another Massachusetts kid

Who can we pawn to rip them off? Kreider for their unprotected first + prospects + cap dump to sweeten the deal? I’d also entertain Colorado at the draft for Ottawa’s pick if they don’t get the top pick. Imagine the Rangers having 3 top 10 picks in a single draft. The chances of that happening are probably slim, but lemme dream for one night ok.

Leafs desperately need defenseman.

I see Staal as a fit here.

Don't think we're scouting Toronto.

The only piece we really have for them is McQuaid (well, with out getting crazy) and he wouldn't bring back anything on their roster.

Carolina has been on Toronto's tail for months now, thats probably who they were taking a look at. We're done with Colorado for the season and don't play Toronto for a while.

If Colorado is buying, Jost makes sense.

Can Jost play the wing ? Kinda Hace enough C prospects

Id like Bowers

Jost is an interesting case.

He hasn’t necessarily set the world on fire, but he’s also in that range where a team might be looking to move him for immediate help and an acquiring team might be intrigued by the growth potential.

You’re not going to get someone’s top prospect for Hayes on an expiring contract, but a young talent who is projectable as a good/very good support player is a possibility.

A kid like Jost is exactly the type of player I’d expect the Rangers to be looking at. I think they’d love to add young NHL talent, not just picks.

Yeah, I’m sure Dubas is dying to add Staal’s contract to their current cap situation :propeller
Rangers could take something back. I'm not sure what Leaf's cap situation is right this instant, though.
Leafs are not going far if they don't improve their defensive corps, and to pre-empt the snarky posts about Marc Staal -- yes he would definitely improve the Leafs.

Popped over to the Avs board out of curiosity and they also seem ok moving Jost for Hayes as a base. I think the adds is where we would disagree.
