A lot of Zucc rumors to Edmonton out there, sounds like he could be moving up as their prime target and they may consider their 1st straight up. Rangers will have to retain some?

Not just retain, take salary back. Which if everyone gets creative, could lead to a bigger return.

They have to clear $5.5m when Sekera returns. Retain 50% on Zucc and the total they need to move out is $7.75m. I'm not touching Lucic unless McDavid is attached. So Manning ($2.25m) and Reider ($2m) or Kassian ($1.85m) for starters gets you partly there money wise. But we haven't moved the needle at all. So we are looking at their 1st for Zuccarello, then add Puljujarvi (.925m) or Yamamoto (.894m).

Edmonton is still short on the cap space and I'm being honest, I need another sweetener for eating that cap. Another 1st or 2nd. What is Edmonton dumping to meet the cap needs elsewhere and using what sweeteners there?

Or you pivot and get Klefbom back for Zuccarello straight up. Why is Edmonton doing that? It's a mess. Every solution is tied to 2 more problems.

Edit: too much writing and not enough re-reading. I guess pool party or the admiral are the sweeteners.

Oilers won't have the cap space to just take on a 50% retained contract.

Will have to be taking salary back.

Not sure how high it'd be, but I'd aim for McKeown/Bean/Kuokannen and a conditional 1st or 2nd. I'm aiming for the quality in Necas.

Could be, but the Nino trade got me thinking about how much pressure Dundon might be putting on Waddell to win. Dundon isn't shy about making trades, and Carolina can't be a perennial rebuilder. Mika gives them an in-prime, cost-controlled center to slot as a 1/2 with Aho. Necas will eventually be that guy, but can the Canes really withstand another 2-3 years of waiting for that?
I think it was Dundon that said before the season that Aho, Necas, and Svechnikov were the only untouchable players and everyone else was available

Actually, Necas is the type of player I’d want in a package for Zibanejad...not that I want to trade him.
If I am moving a 60-70 point center under contract contract control, I am not doing it for futures I would want to upgrade the Defense and even then it's a very small list of players I would move him for.

I like Necas but not in a Zibanejad deal. You make that move, and all it does is make you hope Necas turns into Zibanejad. Theres no point. Zibanejad's contract is so good, its not really even a cap move. It's a bad move.

Zucc (50% retained), goalie prospect not in Russia, ev Gropp for Poolparty, Kassian, Manning and Edmontons 2019 first (deferrable). Or maybe take Cam back, switch their trash and we are good?

Think this is a bit overzealous.

I do wonder if Zucc @ 50% could return a 1st if they take back Talbot.

Eh. A deal like that has the potential to be a Nieuwendyk for Iginla type trade, though lighter of course.

Granted that Nieuwendyk was holding out. It would have to be Necas+, but I think as the centerpiece prospect, it would be worth it.

No.

Nieuwendyk was traded to Dallas because he was a hold-out. Mika is on one of the best contracts in the NHL. This is not equivalent. It only makes sense to move Mika for a top pairing defenseman, if that the is Rangers strategy. Moving him elsewhere does nothing for the team.

As I posted a while back., Carolina is working to get into the playoffs this year, not win the Stanley Cup. They will make trades but my information was that they would not looking at blockbusters. Rask for Nino is a nice move for them. They want to make the playoffs (to help sell tickets) but they are not a must win now team.

I'm living down here in Raleigh, and the fans will borderline/relatively riot if they trade Ferland. They are absolutely trying to make the playoffs and have been since the new owner took over. But Don Waddell has been his usual self and made some very strange moves. Like the Skinner trade. For every good mood he has made, he has balanced it our with a dumb one. Which brings us back to Ferland. I hear some Hurricanes crickets every now and then (Mods can DM me if they feel they want to) and they are getting some very good offers for Ferland, but the would be sending a very bad message when they move him. The Nino trade probably makes it more likely. That being said, if they want to go for it, this have enough assets from the Skinner trade alone to make a move for Zuccarello. I wouldn't say the Hurricanes are win now, but they have to show their fans they are trying
