Also I don’t think you can compare Nash to Naslund just from an age perspective, the analog that makes the most sense to me is Drury

Yeah, and Drury didn't walk away from money like Naslund did. We had to buy out his final year. With Nash, it's a moot point. He was healthy enough and still good enough to play the final year of his contract. And good for us that he did, or we wouldn't have Miller. In fact, things would probably be worse right now. If Nash had retired in the summer of 2017, what would Gorton have done to replace him? That was before the letter and the decision to rebuild. We signed Shattenkirk. I'm sure we would have signed someone to replace Nash. Instead of an expiring contract that we traded for good assets, we might have ended up with another long term anchor.

i would have paid him 15 mil not to play here.

he was mostly ineffective and many nights he was a passenger and nothing more.

trying hard and doing stuff was his claim to fame. not scoring, but trying really hard and almost scoring seemed to be sufficient for many here. his numbers were ghastly for the minutes he played.

i dont miss him.

I have never been a big Zuccarello fan but Ferland is worth more than Zuccarello in a trade?

A third for Zuccarello and that request for Ferland. I know it doesn’t mean anything but come on man. Let’s see Carolina get that return first.

He's got 12 goals and 20 points on an anemic offensive team in Carolina and his chippy play style is coveted in the playoffs.

I think he's probably worth more at this point.

Doesn’t matter if it would have been a mistake or not, I’m just proving to you teams were interested and made offers to him
We also have no idea if those offers were including performance bonuses, if they were conditional on passing a physical, etc. it’s just talk until something is signed. Just ask Jason Arnott.

Does Nash get back pay for his rookie contract when he was putting up 40 goals getting paid $1.1 m?

Should teams do the right thing and pay for performance? Or it's just on players to walk away from guaranteed money when their play declines?
Those rookie years weren’t for us, right?

LeBrun has always hated the Rangers. Can't wait to see his smug face go sour when the team is contending again.

Ferland is one of the better bottom six forwards in the league, but come on now. If Ferland is worth a 1st and a prospect, so is Zuccarello.

3rd rounder for Zuccarello my ass.
