Call me crazy, but Kassian doesn't move the needle for me one bit. If this is a rebuild, I want to roll the dice here and there. A Kassian swap is a flea market trade. McLeod isn't hurting the rebuild, he isn't single handedly killing the tank and he isnt blocking anyone. Let's see if someone overpays trying to find the next Ryan Reeves situation. I'm not counting on a 1st, but let's see what we can get at the TDL.
And Namestinkov is growing on me. Serviceable winger. I like his effort since the scratch. If Edmonton is calling, I don't see a reason to trade that particular player at a discount. Hold that dude's feet to the fire. Pool party isnt enough. Add a 3rd and I'll talk.

Yankee swap? Or that thing you do on Craig's list, turn a back scratcher into a Corvette with 136 trades.Flea market trade. That's exactly the phrase I was trying to put my finger on.
I realize Kassian would be a smaller move, but I think it would be a reasonable way to add some truculence to the lower lines for next to no cost while possibly adding a middle pick next year at the deadline. It's not a super valuable addition, but if I were Gorton, I'd be scouring the league for opportunities like this. McQuaid, I'm hoping, will be a similar idea to what this would be.
I hear you. I think where I'm most confused is why you think this is something the Rangers are looking for.
The fact they traded for McQuaid and signed McLeod for this season make me think both Gorton and Quinn like the idea of their team having an edge and some physical presence in the line-up.
I tend to agree with you that the Rangers are probably going to be looking for that, yet I disagree that they should be trying to add it through anything other than inconsequential means. One year deals, like McLeod or by taking back something like that as a throw in, like Beleskey.
They are getting that stuff for free sort of, I do not see much of a reason to seek it out and pay more for it.
If we are trading them both Hayes and Kreider, they can start with the Ottawa pick and keep adding. There's no way that deal would happen in any case, but there's even less chance, if that's possible, if they aren't giving up the Ottawa pick.
For BOTH? And adding and adding and adding. Ottawa first, their first from this year and next, NOW let's get to the top prospects and young position players.
Id take Ottawa's first and their first. Anything else is just meaningless throw ins imo
Why? Because you do not like them?I have a feeling either McQuaid or MacLeod will be on the way to Toronto.
I mean, my proposal was something like:
McLeod for Kassian
Mainly because I don't think McLeod returns anything at the deadline and I think Kassian would next year
But I hear your point.
It's not that I dislike your idea, one of one, yet I do wonder if there are going to be more and more teams moving forward here who found out they overpaid for (whatever one wants to call it) and will be willing to throw that stuff in or even pay a little more to get it out, and that will sort of drive down the costs for teams to sign similar to cheap one years deals.
I would not do that trade if it was Krieder alone, let alone Hayes as well. There is no way you can walk away from something like that without the crown jewels of prospect. Makar, Lewis, position players. If it was just Krieder alone, the conversation starts with Ottawa's first and Makar.Id take Ottawa's first and their first. Gives them the depth they need to be a real contender this year. Its a bold moveThanks on the responses, I only bring that option because of how the Avalanche have been struggling. Trading for both Hayes and Kreider would give both forward depth and make them a more formidable contender in the West. I agree it’s not likely, but man if Kreider and Hayes are great tonight in a win, it might cause a more anxious there.
No way Kreider nets Ottawa's first alone and you want them to throw in their best defensive prospectI would not do that trade if it was Krieder alone, let alone Hayes as well. Then they don't get Kreider. It's pretty simply. For Kreider to be traded, there is NOTHING that that the other team can have off the table. If they are not willing to cringe at giving anything up, they they need not have Kreider. No way Kreider nets Ottawa's first alone and you want them to throw in their best defensive prospect
Kreider just isn't going to return a guaranteed top 10 pickThen they don't get Kreider. It's pretty simply. For Kreider to be traded, there is NOTHING that that the other team can have off the table. If they are not willing to cringe at giving anything up, they they need not have Kreider.

I think he should. Makar would never be on the table, however.Kreider just isn't going to return a guaranteed top 10 pick
