If the Rangers do look to move Panarin, what are the possible destinations? Has one more year left at $11.7M cap hit, Rangers would likely have to retain some.

My assumption would be the core piece coming back is a LD that can slot in to pair with Fox. From there prospects/picks/cap dump on an expiring contract.

Kreider has 2 years left at $6.5M cap hit. What do the Rangers look for as the return? May be he turns it around the rest of this season to bring his value back up some. Will a team take his contract as is or will it require some retention?

With those 2 gone, who is in the top 6? Laff, Miller, Zib, Trocheck, Cuylle (?), Perreault (? - will he even be ready for that type of role?)

I think Ideally Cuylle would be on the 3rd line on a competing team.

DAL, depending.
Matching to a correct fit will help w/our ask on the return (Bisch+)

Why would Dallas want Panarin when they just traded for and re-signed Rantanen
to add a player who appears to be complementary to the roster who adds depth + scoring.
There are a handful of players not returning/next season is last yr in contract.
Adding bread = upgrade/fit

the cup is elusive, going all in usually reduces the window b'c it costs assets that cannibalize longer term = typically not worth it
howev, every individual transaction is on its merits and here dep on other factors, may make sense

Drury hasn't addressed much in the forward group, he's patched the d together and the verdict is still out on that depending on how Soucy looks, I'm ok with the D for now but up front we need a lot of work and our development still sucks, something Drury hasn't addressed or even seems to want to acknowledge.
JTM says hello.

Look at the Stars salary cap page. Slightly over $90M for 16 players. They still want to re-sign Jamie Benn. They spent over $20M on Rantanen and Johnston. They need to fill out the roster. I heard 32T's today. EF said the Stars want to keep Duchene. That's another contract.

It's like the Rangers. I had this argument last night with someone. Why were surprised the Rangers didn't try to acquire Rantanen and sign him to an 8 year contract? They read it on the Athletic a few days ago. They were surprised the Rangers have only $14M with the cap increase by $7.5M. Miller added $3.625M. Soucy added $3.25M. Urho added $1.55M. All of the cap increase will go there. The Rangers still need to sign Miller and Cuylle. The money is gone unless the Rangers move out money or move money around. Most of the fan base recoils whenever you mention needing to move out some of their favorite players.

The rangers added money, blocked good young players from long term roster spots and are still a mediocre team with a not great prospect pool. How is anyone exalting the performance of the GM? Even if you like the individual players, this team is worse off going forward than they were.

Happy we didn't move Kreider, Othmann and Jones for something tangible. They were difference makers today...

Let's keep sitting berard too. He is small so that's bad. Regardless of his positive impact on every level.

There is a difference between the "Kreider Mafia" and the "Fox Mafia". They aren't the same.

If we trade Miller, then we'd need 2 LDs. Who are they and how much will they cost? Gavrikov, Chychrun and Provorov could all be off the market. The pickings are very thin after those 3. Even if we manage to sign one of them, they will almost certainly cost more than Miller.

Miller, at what he's signed for today, might be okay.

Are you prepared to give him a raise into the 5' or 6's? Because that's what he'll be looking for. He's got potential but, man, he's had a down year and there's better out there than what he's been this year.

If the salary cap’s projected to increase by $25M over the next two years I don’t see why a person wouldn’t be okay with signing K. Miller to an AAV starting with a 5 or a 6.
If that’s the price, I have zero issue with it. Need to package Othman+BS for fox’s partner, while they both have decent value.

I’d bet Kreider is 100% gone and one of Zib or Panarin is gone.

Irrespective of Kreider's exit, which we should all hope for everyone's sake is graceful, bread should go if he agrees to waive b'c we need to recover positive assets going forward as opposed to self rental

Zib everything into account, I'd rather repurpose than keep

Yes, I am, because the alternatives are likely to be worse.

The whole line is below our expectations based on last year. Saying Pan’s troubles this year are due to his linemates’ off years, suggests that Pan’s successes last year were due to his linemates’ play… Can’t have our cake and eat it too. So who is driving that line? There is no out for Pan here. His production is down down by 28% from last year. If we want to say it’s because of his linemates then we have to say his success last year was because of his linemates. Trocheck’s production is down by 32%. Laf’s production is down by 19%. Laf has had the least terrible decline of the three. What we draw from these objective numbers is really going to be subjective opinion. I didn’t bother determining how much of the decline for Tro and Pan is on the PP, but our PP has certainly declined from last year.
My original point about Panarin stands: IMO KEEPING Pan doesn’t replace his past production either. I think if he gets or breaks 90 pts this season we’re lucky and it will probably be due to an improved PP. And if we keep him past this year I think it just gets worse. No crystal ball and I’d be thrilled to be wrong.

Not what I'm saying, I'm saying if his linemates were anywheres decent he'd be around the 100 point range instead of slightly over a point a game. His production is actually really good considering his linemates production
