A deeper forward group and Henrik Lundqvist barely made the finals with a much deeper D core.

Granted they didn’t have a Fox but they didn’t have a black hole at #2 either. There has to be a greater plan. Maybe a trade return for one of our forwards

Schneider isn’t a #4 in any sense, the rangers have never ever used him that way for a prolonged period of time. Borgen is borderline at best but I think he’s better suited on a bottom pair on a contender. The others are all bottom pairing D. Rangers continue to build the defense in an incomplete fashion.
I know its been a short stretch but Borgen has looked like a solid 4d. Miller and Borgen now/and future can be a real good 2nd pairing.
I was hoping Schneider would become that very solid 3/4 dman. Still only 23 I guess

He should get a lot of 5v5 and PP time but I don't feel like he needs to be out there killing penalties full blast

e: personally I think Miller is good enough that playing with Fox makes for a fine first pairing (and the stats have born that out). I dunno how often you truly get two bonified #1 defenseman playing on the same pair.
I agree that Miller should be playing with Fox and if they want to give other people PK time, I could go along with that. However, he should be getting more 5v5 and PP time than anyone else.

A lot of 4/5/6/7 guys here

Still lack the 2/3 defensemen though

It's tough to trade for those though. If a 2/3 D comes available in FA, a lot of these 4-7 guys are easily moveable. If EJ develops into a 2/3, a lot of these 4-7 guys are easily moveable. It gives the team some flexibility in the d corps so they can make moves based on opportunities rather than out of desperation.

Fox already gets low minutes for a 1D
He plays 23-24 minutes per game.

Who do you consider the top pair... the guys who face the opposition's top line or the guys who play the most minutes? It's an honest question, each game is situational.

We view Fox as a top pair guy... and are constantly disappointed that we don't have a true 1LD to partner with him. His foot speed is a weakness he needs to address. What if we let Miller-Borgen be the shutdown pair, took Fox off the PK, and were smarter about how we deployed each D-pair. Instead of labeling everyone as the #4-5-6 they'd be in a vacuum.

Yes, low for a 1D.

32nd in TOI for D this year
26th last year

He's never been used in the type of role like a Doughty, Carlson, Seth Jones, Werenski, Josi have
