It's funny you know that lineup doesnt look that bad, if it were me I'd leave kreider with hayes and chytil and put zuc with Buch a
nd Zibby. Nitpicking though.
It's Renney/Torts-age talent... good, not great... then defense--the reason they'll get a top-10 pick.

Without taking this down in great detail, there’s a difference between a strategic rebuild and a tank. We are rebuilding, no doubt. We are not tanking.

I am not sure I follow, if trading a bunch of your top players for picks isn’t tanking, what is?

This is what I keep asking? How does a team tank? Or, more specifically, how can this team tank?

Tanking is purposefully losing in order to draft higher. We aren’t doing that. We’re rebuilding- making moves for a younger core that can compete now and will surpass the previous core soon, and will have a new, longer window for competing for the Cup. I’ll be surprised if we draft top ten this offseason unless we trade into it or win the lottery. That means you aren’t tanking.

I mean we’re already sitting at the 10th pick right now and will regress even more when Hayes/Zucc get shipped out. I’d bet my life savings we’re comfortably in the top 10. We got lucky early on and it was pretty clear

There have been suspicions of teams doing that in the past and Bettman and co have claimed to monitor those situations since it of course would violate the by-laws/CBA.

Do you have any examples of teams making moves to "purposefully losing" in the NHL in the past or taking any other action to purposefully lose? I am not sure if it ever have been done.

When Toronto got Matthews they signed PAP as a UFA and had Kadri, PAP, Komarov, Reilly, Bozak, Gardiner, JVR, Phaneuf, Grabner, traded for Matthias, signed Winnik, Lupul, Polak and so forth. I think the moves they made were of the more fishy kind during that season.

I am just asking because for years there have been a notion around this team that we just should do what 'everyone' else is doing and 'tank'. We traded away all our vets for picks 'cept 2-3 that probably will be traded this season too. Now trading away all your vets for picks isn't tanking either, we should do something more.

More can always be done. But I do think its important that we realize that getting that FOA pick just isn't a form you fill out, a button you push or whatever. If 31 teams in September had an option to get the FOA pick in 9 months -- a lot of teams would go for that option. The thing is -- and I've said this for like 10 years -- its not just something you opt to do.

forget Hayes
he will be rental w/decent chance to return to Gotham
he' somebody's rental, not for you.

package deal:
Zib + Andersson + NYR 2019 + 2020 2nds + TB 2019 2nd can morph into 1st
for
Sabes 2019 1st [unconditional] + Ollofsson + StL + SJ 2019 1sts [both conditional]

5 assets for 4
Sabes get 2 guys for right now and only surrender 1 from the names above
Zib is a good deal and decent bet to extend at doable #
Lias is cost controlled just beginning elc
2 2nds min this yr [one is a possible 1st] defray later 2 conditional 1sts, which may get rolled over

Rangers get picks they need
good RD prospect

gamble on Chytil, Howden, returning Hayes and Nieves et al = minimum pivot presence as they scale down to a basic core

Sabres fan here. A Rangers fan posted this on the trade board. Sabres need another center.

Would Zibanejad or Andersson ever be available? I can't imagine they would, but asking regardless. Thanks in advance.

Check the league standings and look at where the Rangers sit right now.

This is with one of the easiest schedules in the league and a really lucky stretch.

They're picking top 10.

I’d give you Andersson right now for mittelstadt. How’s that sound? Right a wrong appease the hockey gods.

Exactly. We’re 10th and a bunch of teams below are are within 2 or 3 pts and like you said that’s with an easy schedule and we haven’t moved anyone yet. If we’re below 10 by the deadline we’ll be in free fall afterwards. We’ve actually been pretty competitive.

DQ is putting Hayes on RW. Weird. DQ said Hayes is a center but they want to put him on the wing for match up situations. Hayes said he hasn’t played the wing in 4 years and he needs to look at the tape to figure where he needs to be.

The Rangers want to get a look at Strome at center.

Maybe there are teams looking for help at wing and they want to see Hayes on the wing.

Zuccarello isn’t playing tonight. He might play on Monday. The Rangers don’t play until Thursday. They might be better off giving him off until next Thursday against Arizona.

The Rangers have a 3 games in 5 stretch at home beginning next Thursday. Arizona. Vegas. Anaheim. Three more days off. @Toronto and Philadelphia weekend before Christmas.

The Rangers need to get Zuccarello healthy because the trade deadline is ten weeks away.

Time goes fast.

Bern’s trade proposals, while entertaining, tend to be a comically unrealistic. So if you see him suggesting something you can probably safely assume that thing won’t happen.

I’m sure both are available for the right price but the odds of them getting moved is close to zero.

Hayes has to look at the tape to figure out how to play wing in a system he has been a part of all year? Come on!!!

Agree with everything you say, but for the bolded.

I can't see the proposal and I'd wager a good number of my fellow Rangers fans can't either, which should maybe give you a sense of how we generally view trade ideas from this poster. :)

Regarding your question, I don't think anyone on the Rangers is untouchable given the state of the rebuild, but IMO the two guys you just named are currently tabbed as part of the core going forward, and Zibanejad in particular is currently performing at the level of a 1st line center at the cost of a 2/3C, to boot, so he'd be super expensive. For Zibby, I think you're paying the St. Louis 1st, another 1st, a grade-A prospect, and a grade-B prospect – if not more. Andersson is a lot harder to judge, but my guess would be a 1st plus a prospect not named Dahlin.

They're picking top 10.

Yeah, with the exception of the bottom three teams, which are starting to fall behind pretty quickly, everything from the fourth pick on isn't really a stretch from where we sit at the moment.

Honestly, I don't even think the bottom 3 are that far behind. All of them are a 3-game winning streak away from being right there with the 4-10 teams...

You're right, when push comes to shove, they're not out of view.

As far as the Rangers are concerned, I'm still feeling that 4-6 range, and 5 splits the difference and is the number that keeps popping into my head.

That puts us in Dach, Byram, Podkolzin range --- and that would be fantastic.
