Grabner was 2 years older, and 3rd-4th line Penalty killing winger at the time. Kreider is a top 6 guy with size and speed who can play a heavier game. Anything less then a first and prospect or the equivalent in a younger roster player is a fail.
Again, you can't determine what is and isn't a fail without knowing the market.

What if it's a buyer's market and Hall goes for only a first and a good prospect? If that's the case, time to reset expectations on Kreider. It all really depends on who else is available and some of the other moves that help shape the market. What if Kreider struggles and has 30 points at the deadline? There are just too many variables at this point to say what a guy is and is not worth.

Talbot was 26 years old when he played his first NHL game. Raanta was 24. That Rangers team that Talbot first played for was a veteran team that expected to make the playoffs every year--a strong sometimes very strong team. Raanta ditto with the Blackhawks. Georgiev plays his first NHL at 21 for a team that's just divested itself of many of its key players like McDonagh and Nash. Not a strong team--a very weak team and last year's team wasn't a strong team either. He manages to have a winning record and a good save % anyway as a 22 year old. I really don't care for the comparison of Alex to Talbot or Raanta just because they were all undrafted. Talbot is a lot bigger than Georgiev besides. I think Alex is and will be a better goalie than either of those other two--though they are good goalies.

Valiquette has been pointing out that Alex does not give up clear sighted goals. He's also as good as it gets in getting to shots where the pass has crossed the slot to a one timer shooter on the opposite side. He can be bombarded without getting rattled. Henrik would lose his cool before he would and he's picked up Henrik's work ethic. Henrik is playing well but he's playing better.
Totally.
Georgiev is really terrific. Perfect form, at least that’s my impression. He’s always in great position, seeing the puck, and squared-up. Such nice form.

Would Detroit really move Zadina?
Why would they do that? They are aggregating as many good young players as possible. They are also looking at a 4th year out of the playoffs. Not sure that they will trade good young assets.

Good GM's get deals done. I believe Gorton to be a good GM. He has a very legit trading chip leading into the deadline. He also backed himself into a corner via a boughtout #22. The market is wide open. He just has to get the job done.

Then again, team continues on the winning trend and this could all be a mute point.
They do get good deals done, but they can't close deals that don't exist. Again, you don't know the market for Kreider, I don't know the market for Kreider. What if we see a tweet before the deadline from McKenzie saying, "Market for Kreider not developing, teams afraid of rapid decline," or something? Would you change your tune? Not saying that's what WILL happen. He could go on a tear beginning next game and be the hottest name behind Hall and get a huge return. Point is we don't know, so we shouldn't establish expectations at such an early juncture.

I know it’s kind of sacrilegious but a Hank buyout?

Business can be cold.

(that would be really cold)
That is definitely not happening. If they were to buy someone out, it would be Staal. But I think that neither is bought out.

My expectation is something similar to the Zuccarello deal regarding conditional picks.

I am 99% certain Kreider will net a 1st, and prolly a little more. And he is quite valuable even if he drives us nuts. He would definitely be a good depth add, easy to fit in etc. And some upside.

Kreider is playing good hockey. The pts will come.

Why would you hold it against him if he signed with a contender? His first choice is obviously to stay with the Rangers. If we buy him out, we are taking that option away from him.

holding it against him b/c he could have waived his NTC two years in a row to a contender. This might be the 3rd trade deadline he declines to waive it which hurts the future of this team. Is winning a cup only important when the Rangers aren’t paying him? He’s not winning one here

Henrik’s impact on the young goalies is not emphasized enough. GG is learning how to prepare for every game, how to stay focused. Just look at his interviews. Very serious. Never satisfied. Sounds like Hank.

He wants to play and he wants to stay here. It's as simple as that. If the Rangers take that option away from him and he still wants to play, of course he's going to go to a team where he has a chance to win. He'd be stupid not to. That doesn't mean he should have accepted a trade when playing for a contender wasn't his first choice. Your take is absolutely ridiculous.

The team having potentially 11 million on the books in buyouts next year is horrendous
Actually, it's really well managed IMO. I mean, sure it's an eyesore and all, but they won't need the space next year, so Gorts timed it to bite one big bullet all at once – and then it's clear sailing from then on, when the team will need it.
