On a side note, Zucc just does not look too happy to be anywhere but NY. Doesn’t look like he fits in there.

Lindgren has proven to be pretty damn good. I don't mind Skjei eating those mins (as others have mentioned) until Lindgren is ready to take over 1LD and then let Skjei be unprotected. Lindgrens huge plus is also that it looks like he won't be piling up the points so he should likely cost less long term, yeah?

I know this is crazy talk, but if Staal can’t pinch in yet on the third pairing, call up Rykov and give him a go at it.
Really? Call it like i see them. Most players respond differently when theyre happy where they are. This is such a crappy lazy take. You are saying this based of a long game, one where wild just beat Tampa & zuc got player of the game for winning game? My gosh lazy ignorant take
I would be surprised if any teams are interested in trading for Hajek and Lindgren right now knowing that they would also have to then use a spot themselves on their protection list. Even for Skjei I have my doubts.
I haven't looked much at other teams situations, and everything could change a year from now, but I imagine there will be some teams who have more forwards than they can protect, and an open protection spot on defense.
A team like Toronto could be looking for a deal like that. They only have 1 NHL dman under contract after this year.
Why are we in a hurry to trade Lindgren of all people? He has basically been the steadiest defenseman on the team since he got in the lineup.
My dude, the alternative is Staal who is also coming back from injury. If Rykov is that much worse we have a problem. So call up the guy who hasn’t played at all this season and has zero NHL experience? Don’t you want to put these guys in a position to succeed?
That's fair. I do think Toronto needs to protect Liljegren as well though.
Actually, you're right, they do. Sandin too. So maybe they aren't a good example. Winnipeg? Morrissey, Pionk and Logan Stanley? Heinola is exempt.
I think we're going to lose a dman regardless, so maybe we just keep everyone, protect the ones we want to protect and leave it up to Seattle.
Yeah, if right now my top 3 to protect are Trouba, ADA, and Lindgren, I just don't see a team really caring that much for what we have leftover. Every team has a Hajek level player. Skjei is an interesting one but how many have the cap space to add a guy who is playing like he has been?
The problem isn't so much right now, as if Hajek improves next year he could be quite the find for Seattle
If I am Gorton, I am dangling Georgiev over Dubas for a hefty price.
Brian Burke was just on Sirius this morning saying something has to give. Dubas is going to have to make a move soon. The Leafs are too feast or famine (much like the Rangers style) but with a ton of money invested up front. Freddy Andersson cannot play the whole season, he’ll be done come playoff time.
Georgiev is a great match for them. Still young. They are tight up against the cap and he makes minimal money. He has played great in front of a bad defense so the transition to Toronto’s system would be a familiar one.
Georgiev and Buchnevich
for
Nylander and 2020/2021 1st
I can’t see Toronto making that trade. They’d have to be getting back a cost controlled top 4 LD along with Georgiev to even consider dealing Nylander and a 1.
This amounts to: 'It's different this time though, because now I'm pissed off.'
Perspective.
im still intrigued by yegor rykov.
he brings some size 6'3 200 + and russian snarl with him. by all accounts, hes a solid physical dman.
hes buddies with Georgie buch and shesty and im bummed he hasnt been able to play yet.
im hoping he earns a looksee cup a coffee soon
I am as well, but if he is physical that is news to me. I did not pick that up anywhere. Am I missing something?
my understanding is that he a horse who plays a smart, 2 way physical game with both offensive ability and some edge to his d game. skates very well and can log a ton of minutes. he doesnt need to be scott stevens. he just cant be tom poti. i dont think he is.
hes a guy that i think has flown under the radar alot because hes an unknown.
i do know that bobrov was very high on him and felt he had a real chance to make some noise.
ODC's take jibes with my memory as well. I remain very excited to see what he can do. More so than any other player we currently have signed, he had the potential to bring Trouba-like physicality/snarl to the left side.Have not read that, but certainly hope so. Just surprised.
The Rangers are rebuilding exactly the way I expected, short and to the point.
You are right, I have no stomach for an extended rebuild. I’ve seen way too many “rebuilds” stretch into eras. The Islanders, the Maple Leafs, the Panthers, the Sabres, the Coyotes and on and on. Here in Arizona, I’ve watched some of the worst hockey imaginable over the last seven years and the continued erosion of the fan base. I didn’t sign up for that.
Your analysis seemingly discounts veteran leadership, a most important part of the rebuild. Keep in mind, Staal is out the door this summer and Henrik mostly likely leaves next summer or sooner. You don’t need 1 or 2 veteran leaders, you need several.
You’re damn right I am because unlike you I am not a robot and I have some loyalty, connection, and joy out of watching certain players not just the Organization. It’s something you are without and fail to realize exists while then scolding the fans that do have those ties. You don’t have to always be cold and ruthless with every player that has hit a certain age as if they have soured like bad milk in the fridge. And quite honestly that’s not the case. Its why Hank got the contract he did, the Organization paid him what he was due in December of 2013. What happened after that? A SCF run in 2014. A President’s trophy team in 2015 that should have won the cup. But would we have had those opportunities without him signed? I am sure you think otherwise. Every team does it with their franchise players and yet you want to scrutinize the guy until no end.
Kreider for all his warts has been a solid player. He hasn’t been bad, he hasn’t been great. He has been consistently streaky throughout his career. But when he does bring it to the ice he is damn good and very unique in that there are not many players that possess the same physical attributes as him. And during this rebuild transition period, he has shown to be a great leader in the lockerroom and on the ice as has been documented so many times. He is having a positive impact on the kids. He is doing a lot of right for this organization and he is not making it a circus with the situation, handling it like a pro.
Will I be upset if and when he is moved, sure I will be because I’m not some lifeless robot. But will I understand it, absolutely. I just won’t shove him out the door on his ass like you are so eager to do because you think you know the only path to success.
And lastly, because I hope he does re-sign at amicable terms for a multitude of reasons, that isn’t because I’m a “fan boy”, it just makes me human.
Focker out.
I personally believe Skjei is likely to be moved either way. He lacks trade protections and is locked down to term and at a reasonable number. He’s not a 1D, and we have a few prospects on ELCs who can match his level within a season or two. The writing is on the wall.I also cringe at our left defense if we move Skjei, who would most likely have to be part of that deal.

I’m not sure I agree with all of your examples and I have a lot more like the ones I mentioned. The Rangers have the youngest team in the league and will be getting younger over the next two years when Staal, Smith and Lundqvist leave. You need veteran leadership. Anyone who has spent time in hockey values veteran leadership. You are only using poor examples. What about Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, and Tampa? Some of these teams rebuilt themselves and have been winning consistently for 15 years.
Of course you need veteran leadership, but I missed where CK became Mark Messier. The Rangers have Henrik, Staal, Panarin, Zibanejad and then they have guys that will be coming into their mid-20's that should grow into the leaders of tomorrow. You don't have to run out and sign CK to a massive deal that you are almost assured will be garbage by the end.
I also believe Staal will either get bought out, will waive to a team willing to take his hit, or will retire this offseason.I think he could be moved too but it'll have to be a real good deal or someone they really want coming back. Simply because even if he's not our best LD every night, he's our vet at this point and he and Trouba as a pairing are doing better of late. Staal would be our real vet but he honestly should be rotating 6/7 D with Hajek if anything, and I'd prefer having Hajek most nights tbh. One of Staal/Skjei has to be moved, or at least they'll try to get Staal out I'm sure. We'd have to get some kind of vet LD back probably. Reunanen/Miller aren't ready to step in next season (I don't believe) and we're already running two 21-year olds on that side. I know it's a rebuild (I guess more reset now) but I have trouble thinking they can move Staal, and that if they can't they want him as the vet presence moving forward. But if the return is solid? Yeah I can see them taking that gamble on running Staal/Hajek/Lindgren and maybe Rykov or an acquisition next season.
Let's do another Brassard for Zib trade, but Skjei for X =)
I agree that Lindgren is playing very well. However, I actually think Hajek has a bit of a higher ceiling. Folks have soured on him because he's been asked to play in a role that's over his head right now but I see a strong top-4 guy there where Lindgren might be just a notch below that. The lack of points should definitely keep his price down, but I do think we'd miss his physical game on the back end if we lost him. I won't be happy to lose either guy but I don't think that losing either of them will set us back too far.
