Use the second retention spot on Smith, and then be a middle man for a team for the third retention spot to grab another mid round pick, and you basically get the Smith picks back.

Nyquist for a 2nd should be a good comp for Smith, esp with another 50% retain bringing him down to pennies.

There are ways to solve that problem. A third team also retains, or we take back some salary. I would imagine if we retain 50% and take back 2.5 in salary for this season, a team could afford him - next season the cap goes up so 5 million shouldn't be an issue for the team that trades for him.

There was some kind of cap crunch that played into that. With the cap going up, those deals aren't going to be out there in all likelihood.

Just listening to Pagnotta on the radio (don't shoot the messenger) that he's hearing Kreider being talked about.
I know Pagnotta doesn't bring anything news breaking just thought I would share.
