if Kreider goes to the Flames, Rangers should demand Sam Bennett. untapped offensive potential, grit, can play wing and center and is a pest to play again and under 24 years old. I believe he PK for the Flames if my memory serves me right.

Want upcoming draft assets. Feel like we have enough bodies who are NHL ready.

Hall, Kreider and Toffoli look to be the three best forward options available in advance of the trade deadline. Fourth best may be Namestnikov.
I wanted to hold onto Namestnikov until closer to the deadline because I thought he could increase his trade value with a good season. And if he didn’t then i think we would have gotten the same value then.

I feel the exact opposite to be honest. When we're playing guys like Haley and Smith frequently, and have guys like Strome and Kreider heading out (Without many good forward prospects not currently in the NHL), we're actually quite shorthanded in terms of NHL level players.

A player that stood out to me last playoffs, is a player I feel we're lacking.. Josh Anderson.

Big, fast, throws his body around, grinds it out, can throw them, PKs, has thumbs... the type of player I feel we need and can grow with the team. ( essentially another Lemieux )

Lemieux Lias Andersson would be a fun line to watch
Anderson’s don’t grow on trees. Columbus gave Vegas a 1st to not take Anderson in expansion draft. Doubt they are letting him go. Not a lot of players in the league fit that template, and those like that in the draft seem to have high bust potential. I think if you want an Anderson you need to try and hit the lotto in the draft

I like Bennett as a gamble. Though I think the Rangers would rather flip some extra picks for him instead of getting him as the centerpiece in a Kreider trade. I don't think the Flames would add him to a Hayes-return-esque package.

First of all, everyone always say that they cannot imagine a player making “x m”, then the player ends up making a heck of a lot more then x m.

How many times didn’t we hear — is Kevin Hayes a 4m player? He got 7x7.

Skinner just got 9m. I wouldn’t trade TDA for Skinner.

The big difference for me though is that we should overpay for players this season and next — in order to have good contracts in 2-5 years when we are supposed to compete. Bridge dealing Buch, Lemieux and TDA last summer in order to save money today — that will cost us when we are supposed to compete was BEYOND dumb.

We could easily have afforded long term deals for those 3 if we bought out Staal and Smith too besides Shatty. Which would have saved us a boat load of cap space when we are supposed to contend...
UFA is not RFA.

Ain't no one in good ol boys club of NHL GMs gonna offer sheet a guy with attitude problems. They want GOCBs and Gritty McGrits.

Buying out three guys who make 17M to sign a few guys with less than a full good season each (maybe Buch cobbled together 1.5 good seasons in his career in total, idk) is super, super dumb and not at all how it ever works.

This is not a video game.

I think if the flames lose tonight there has to be a major trade in the works before they fire their head coach. Would love to make a trade with them. Cant see them firing their coach before making a trade.

Not highly unusual to have a single scout at a remote game that does not involve the Rangers. Take it easy.

Exactly. Clark and Bobrov were in Helsinki last week. And they were watching not just the 2020 draft eligibles, but also players already drafted like Höglander. These people travel all over the world to make sure they have all the information if in the future a player hits free agency. It's about more than just the draft or trades.

Kylington is a nice player, but... why exactly do we need him?

We don't, and nice player? I don't know. He is protected in Calgary, fairly solid team, strong defensive structure. Why is OK seen as a really attractive young asset?? These guys are all over the place.

Puljujärvi?

If they move Kreider, they better be doing just as well as they did in the Hayes trade, if not better. Kreider is a more impactful player with even better physical attributes for a deep playoff run.
Shocked to see Kreider has 11 points in 19 games and Hayes has 9 points in 22 games right now.

Yeah, and I don't think that "Laurel and Hardy" strategy when it comes to building a successful team under a cap is without merit.

Getting a player that 'can do it all' will cost you a ton. High pick/bunch of assets. High cap hit. And so forth. And in the end, especially in this league right now, it is still very likely that the big guy never really can compete with the speed and skill on the opposing team.

I think its wiser to look for size that is hard to handle along the boards and in front of the net from a few specialized player on your team. I rather have a Pat Maroon and a true legit top talent that is on the smaller side than giving up a ton of assets for a forward with size and some skill.
