Why does he have to play on the 3rd pairing?
If he's not, then Fox is, which is exactly the same situation.

If you think they are stapled to the right side sure.If he's not, then Fox is, which is exactly the same situation.

It doesn't have to be that way.
But it usually is. More often than not, RD are RD and LD are LD. There are not that many success stories of those that switch him.If you think they are stapled to the right side sure.

That's right, it usually is. However we have seen teams do it and have success while doing it. Is it ideal? Probably not but it's not something that should necessarily force the Rangers to keep a worse player over ADA just because of handedness. He's also said in the past he prefers playing on the left IIRC, whether he was saying that just to stick in the lineup or he really feels that way who can really say but it's something to keep in mind. But it usually is. It hasn’t even been that long since the Yandle/McDonagh and MDZ/Moore issues. Look at how Faulk is struggling in St. Louis. But it usually is. More often than not, RD are RD and LD are LD. There are not that many success stories of those that switch him.
Look, it would be silly of the coaching and management not to examine all options. But players that have switched sides, have already usually done so with some varying of success. As a point though, very few success stories. That's right, it usually is. However we have seen teams do it and have success while doing it. Is it ideal? These are not EA Sports games where you can do as you will. In real life, playing the right side or the left side is a world of difference. It hasn’t even been that long since the Yandle/McDonagh and MDZ/Moore issues. Look at how Faulk is struggling in St. Louis.
Just in case it wasn't clear, that is my point. These are not EA Sports games where you can do as you will. In real life, playing the right side or the left side is a world of difference.
But Brendan Smith plays forward!Just in case it wasn't clear, that is my point.
I don't have much personal experience with this, but it seems particularly difficult to pick the puck off the boards when you're on the wrong side. I remember in high school they had us stop it with our skate and play it off that. Thats no way to receive a pass under pressure. The challenge with a lot defenseman playing the off side is you have them taking the pass at a weird angle on their forehand, or having to receive on their backhand. That’s somewhat doable if you’re a forward, but when that ability is the difference between the puck going out of the zone, or being intercepted by a pressing forward who then has momentum to take the puck the other way, most teams are very hesitant to try it.

I’m taking Fox over DeAngelo every time. I keep the whole right side unless Lundkvist really proves to be better, which is hard to imagine.
Don’t sleep on Skinner, either. It’s early yet, but he’s done very well so far in his D+1 year...Keane is gonna force his way into the conversation at some point too. I mean the conversation to be on the roster I mean
Personally I don't believe our front office is going to leave that up to Seattle. The issue of who to keep on defense will be forced by the expansion draft.
