Larry thinks Devils could get Gaudreau for a signed Hall hahaha.

Never forget that Larry is a Devils homer first and foremost. He can shout it to the rafters of MSG that he used to sit in the blue seats in the 70s but he’s a Devils fan through and through. Will never say a bad thing about them.

This is why we need better beat writers. Our best best writer is a fan of the Devils.
Vince Mercogliano roots for the Devils?

What's Anaheim's incentive to trade either of them? And what are we giving up for them? Neither will be cheap. They both have sizable cap hits, which would make things really tight next year unless Skjei is going the other way.

After investing in Trouba, I don't see us trading for another expensive dman. The LD situation isn't something that has to get fixed today. Let the kids mature and see where we are in a year or two.
I mean I think you can start with Skjei if they would be interested. I’m not going to play trade machine but the Rangers have the assets to make a deal happen. Anaheim is rebuilding too but are in the opposite boat as the Rangers. Not a lot of defenders in their pipeline Lindholm has less than 3 years on his deal. Can still get a good deal for him. Anaheim can use Fowler as 1LHD. Just spitballing. While LHD does not need to be solved today, I don’t think throwing more youth at it is that answer. They already asking A LOT of Trouba. Rangers have young D to deal, they need stability.

I think they are scouring the wrong California team. I would think about trying to get Lindholm or maybe Fowler out of Anaheim. They recalling need a top pairing caliber LHD to stabilize the defense. Throwing another rookie at it won’t solve the problem.

Saw Anaheim live last night. They are not trading their veterans. Their GM traded away a bunch of NHL caliber defensemen in trade that haven't yielded much. ANA is terrible defensively, especially when Lindholm or Fowler aren't on the ice.

I highly doubt the devils could get gaudreau for a signed hall given the salary difference will be massive. Not to mention unlike Hall gaudreau actually plays

CGY is not a good dance partner in a hockey. The player that they would want is Zibs. Last year they were in the Hayes conversation, but wouldn't pony up their first rounder.

If you are going to trade for a prospect, the only two worth considering are Pelletier and Dube. Both guys would be a fit for Kreider in a rental situation. They need a second line center.

There are bigger issues in CGY than what a simple roster move can fix. Their star players aren't performing up to par.

Historically speaking, the next 3-5 games for every team are very important in terms of jockeying for position. No one wins the cup in November, but many teams lose their chance at it during this month.

As it currently stands, two teams out west, and three teams in the east would be your best bang for the buck deals in terms of rentals at the deadline:
  • Tampa
  • Toronto
  • Florida
  • SJ
  • Nashville
Some of these teams don't have their 1st rounders in 2020, but I expect this group to finish in the 16-23 slot of each round. You will get a higher pick if you are trading to these teams.

The next group are higher caliber contenders:
  • CAR- has a lot of draft currency in 2020 to make some major splashes, same with their farm depth.
  • VGK
  • COL
  • EDM
  • BOS
That's ten teams that the Rangers could sell to at the deadline. You want a situation where a team like BUF is a fringe wildcard team, alongside a few others.

The Rangers are too poor defensively to have any aspirational hopes this year, so one last sell-off is the best thing for the organization before a thorough house cleaning.

I was watching the last number of games, and even in the wins, the team is awful defensively. Just awful. It's not NHL caliber.

JD needs to look at what Tippet was able to do with EDM is year, and what he's done in CLB and St. Louis. The Rangers have the pieces, but the pieces don't know what to do.

Who is trading away their vets though? They are terrible defensively with them, and terrible defensively without them. They are rebuilding. Throw them some extra assets. Rangers need to improve their D by the time they want to call Igor up honestly. I think they need to find a 1LHD from somewhere. I actually think Anaheim is a pretty good match. I think if you can get Lindholm that is about as perfect of a fit that you can get, albeit it’ll have a hefty price tag. But if you have other ideas would be happy to hear.

Rangers Scouting the Kings? Both teams not in the playoff mix and may very well be rooting for ping pong balls come mid-April. For the Rangers to make the playoffs they would need to go on a 10 game stretch of consistency. Kings want to shed term. Rangers don't mind adding a little money. Rangers need to fix the bottom six/PK. I don't understand the Gettinger scratch last night. Is he up here to develop on the fourth line/PK or being sent back down a game after his first NHL point? With that said Here's some possibilities:

-Kyle Clifford: Rangers have been linked to him for years. Maybe a similar trade to the McQuaid one where they "invest" in him, see how he does, and try and sell that stock at the deadline.

-Adrian Kempe: He competes and is a big guy who does board work. Hasn't taken the next step offensively. Maybe some deal around Anderson for him is being talked about. This is all speculation.

-Tyler Toffoli: I don't see it as the Rangers aren't going to pay a deadline price for a UFA Rental.

I was going to talk about Kovalchuk but he's out of the plans. I'd be fine trading Smith for him if major sweeteners were coming.

Mikos....I figured that we will have at least 50 % + roster turnover in the next 2 seasons.....does that sound about right do you figure ? Would be interested in hearing your version of what our 2021 opening night club might look like . A lot can happen in that time span...good and bad !

Yeah I can see that, but maybe a little less. This board has a fascination with taking on terrible contracts. I don’t see that happening. But I do see the defense stabilizing over the next 20 months. The Fox and Trouba deals would really drive that.

In terms of forwards, it’s really a matter of who you can win with moving forward. And that to me is keeping the guys that can fill their roles effectively.

Bread, Zibs, Buch, Strome, Kakko, Chytil, Howden, Lias/Strome/Lemieux and Kravtsov ever augmented by a legitimate 4th line players. Chytil becomes the 2nd line center. Howden the shutdown center. One of Lias, Strome or Lemieux go to Seattle. Team trades prospects and picks for a middle 6 center or keeps Strome.

Hajek, DeAngelo, Trouba, Fox, and Lindgren stick. Rangers trade Skjei, get Miller In the NHL.

Don’t see the benefit here for Calgary. Gaudreau is younger and just as productive. He also has 3 years left at 6.75m.

Hall will cost 10M+ and unlike Gaudreau, has a history with injuries.
Gaudreau had a pretty lousy end to last year and he has started even worse this year. Suspect there is some concern he is wearing down.

Bortuzzo getting only 4 games for that hit on Arvidsson is a f***ing disgrace.

The NHL is always talking about protecting players, but they never back it up. That shit should be a 20 or 30-game suspension. Hitting a defenseless player in the back like that should not be seen as a simple cross-check
